I recently built a new computer with an ATI Radeon HD 5970 for the graphics card. However, now, whenever I get badly wounded, instead of the picture being really bleak, blurry, and washed out, it goes totally black, with an occasional flashing white blob going across the screen, and if I get healed, the black doesn't go away until a couple seconds after I'm healed. Basically, whenever I get wounded, I'm blinded.
I suspect this to be a graphics driver problem, I am running the 9.12 hotfix, and I'm not installing 10.1 until they release the hotfix version. Besides, I highly doubt 10.1 catalyst will fix this issue specifically.
Maybe it's not the graphics driver? All suggestions are welcome, please help me fix this!

Re: Wrong screen effect when badly wounded
try clearing the bf2 shader cache (using bf2cleaner or deleting the folder documents/battlefield2/cache)

Wait, shouldn't I clear out the PR cache, and just leave the BF2 cache alone? Or both?

Re: Wrong screen effect when badly wounded
pr does not use a shader cache other than the built in by bf2 afaik
even so - clearing cache is safe - bf2 will "optimize shaders" again once you try to load a map - thats when the cache gets rewritten (but only if you clear the cache)

I cleared the cache, still the same problem.
Attached is what it looks like.

Re: Wrong screen effect when badly wounded
if you need a catalist with a hotfix try downgrading - maybe an earlier version does not have the problem and got its hotfixes
are you running pr from the pr.exe or from inside bf2 (ie. start bf2 then select mod)
you could also try reinstalling hoping that this is caused by a corrupted pr file

9.12 is the earliest version with support for the 5970, so I can't downgrade.
Yes, I'm running pr from it's own .exe, so no go there.
I'd really hate to reinstall at this point, when I'm 99% sure it's ATI's pathetic drivers.

Re: Wrong screen effect when badly wounded
I hate to revive an extremely dead thread, but I just recently returned to PR, and 2-and-a-half years later, and I still have the same problem. Literally, the exact same problem.
I've tried drivers, disabling crossfire, running as admin, running in compatibility mode, everything possible, and I still get this problem, the screenshot above is still accurate. Does anyone have a solution by now?
EDIT:
And with another search I find this thread: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... black.html
Off to go try some more solutions....

Okay, so it turns out the solution was disabling in-game anti-aliasing.
Nearly 3 years, and this was the solution the entire time...and no one told me...

That's an odd fix. Did you ever get around to reinstalling fresh over those 3 years or did you just pick up where you left off?
