Headset replacement
So my headset packed in and I am in need of a new one. Being primarily for use with PR I really need something with an average - above average mic, but I would also like:
- Reasonable sound quality, doesn't have to "7.1 surround" or whatever
- Durable, something that will last
- Cheap, under 40 pounds/50euros/$60
I had a pair of Sennheisers a while back which lasted me for years, so I was thinking something like:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-Mult ... 232&sr=8-1
Or these look alright in my price range (they are USB however):
Plantronics Gamecom 780 PC Gaming Headset with 7.1 Surround Sound (PC): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
Any suggestions?

Re: Headset replacement
Don't know the quality of "Plantronics" products...
my first headset was Typhoon Bass boost or so, EPIC vibration on the ears... (bot sides were really vibrating!!! REALLY miss that one, cable broke... -.-
)
Had an awesome Gembird (virtual) 5.1 USB headset after that (this one: Gembird AP-5.1 Surround-Sound Headset - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics), but then some time the left side was broken (just no sound left ear anymore... -.-
) but the quality was amaaaazing!!!
Really epic one, best experience until now!
You should check this one, with vibration!!! Seems best, epic to me...
Gembird AP-880-5.1 Surround Sound USB Headset with Vibration - Silver: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
I suggest a Creative Fatal1ty, amazing thing, have it for a while now, good quality (although no special bass boost vibration and no 5.1... -.-
)

It's over budget, but I have had this for about a year, no problems, loving it. Very comfy :>

Re: Headset replacement
I use the Gamecom 780 headset and the sound is superb along with a mic that is easy to adjust but they are a bit clunky, make sure you have plenty of room to turn your head, dont want you knocking any book shelves down!!

Yeah never really been a fan of the headphones + desk mic/clip on thing, seems like a bit too much faffing about for me
I went with these, only slightly over budget.

I am impressed by my failrly cheap, simple headset. the mic boom is flexible and the mic and speaker sound is good, volume wheel and mute button halfway down the cord.

Re: Headset replacement
They're not even suited for gaming, no special style or nothing mentioning the word "gaming"...

Re: Headset replacement
Creative Fatal1ty costs less and is even better suited/optimized for gaming...

The Sennheiser one is just good for you if you mainly just listen to music on your PC...
For games I reeeeally suggest you to buy some headset which contains sth. with "gaming"...

Re: Headset replacement
So, what would be considered gaming headsets? Anything with a microphone attached to headphones are going to be used for gaming... Its not like you suit up your headphones/mic combo and go to town at youtube, or start typing a paper with Dragon, or call your friends on Skype..
Why exactly would you need/want a mic attached to your headphones to listen to music on your PC?

Re: Headset replacement
That really doesn't make an awful lot of sense. I'm not going to buy something because its marketed at me, I'm going to look into it, read customer reviews and tech reviews and pick out something I think is a decent product within my specifications (budget, usefulness etc). And thats what I did.Daniel wrote:For games I reeeeally suggest you to buy some headset which contains sth. with "gaming"...![]()

Whether or not it looks badass, has a 1337 name, or is called a "gaming headset" is just marketing bollocks which I couldn't care less about.

Re: Headset replacement
I'd go for a desktop Mic and a decent set of headphones instead of a combo. I just bought this --->
Newegg.com - Audio-Technica Audiophile ATH-AD700 3.5mm/ 6.3mm Connector Circumaural Open-Air Dynamic Headphone
And it works quite well, just add in a cheap-o mic and you are good to go. Has amazing wires which you can run over with a rolling chair over and over!
Not to mention great sound. Not noise cancelling, but it blocks most noise while still allowing you to hear phones and important noises. If it isn't in your price range, Audio-Technica makes plenty of other decent products. Investing in one good headset beats buying a dozen cheap ones any day, just saying.
If you want cheap and great the Philips SBC HP250 is amazing. I had one last 11 years for me and worked great, again no built in mic, but buying this headset and a desktop mic is cheaper than most suggestions thus far.

Re: Headset replacement
I own the Saitek GH 20 " Vibration headset " its works fine
when a grenade explode or something like that its vibrating, very strange sensation ..
Btw if you want to use your headset performance to the max you need a proper sound card like the Asus xonar series

Re: Headset replacement
Okay, so this has become a general "new headset-suggestion"-thread now or what?Cossack112 wrote:Well, its always nice to see more feedback from others, Cole is not only who is looking for new headset![]()
Then, in this case, I hope the forum moderators agree with that...
