Crash to desktop

Post by hokano »

Welcome everyone.

My problem with PR is that I can't simply run the darn thing. I have installed all of the BF 2 patches, installing all of the 3 parts of PR + maps.
The thing is that after the splash screen the screen goes black (just like it would do normally while loading a game), but after like 2 seconds the game shuts down and goes back to desktop (not even a game logo is displayed - just few seconds and i'm back to desktop).

I have all of the graphic drivers installed and updated, tried with antivirus turned off, ant still nothing. I have searched the web for an answer but without any meaningful results.

Btw the same thing happens with the regular BF 2 (can't run it either).
Btw2 : No error massages appear.

My PC:
Processor:AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory:4096MB RAM
Hard Drive:500 GB + 60 GB SSD
Video Card:RADEON 6870
Sound Card:Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Operation System:Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Motherboard:MSI

It may be caused by graphics settings in your BF2 profile.

Try this:
- Go to My Documents
- Go to Battlefield 2 folder
- Rename "Profiles" to ";Profiles"
- Start PR

Does it work? If so, it has to do with your graphics settings. Do this:

- Rename ";Profiles" back to "Profiles"
- Go inside the Profiles folder
- There are 1 or more folders here. The folders named "001" and (possibly "002" etc.) are the ones we need
- Go inside each "00x" folder and delete (or rename) the Video.con files
- Start PR
- Setup your graphics
- Save
- PLAY!

If this doesn't help anything, rename ";Profiles" back to "Profiles" and wait until someone else posts a possible solution.

So far the second option seems to work, we'll see for how long.
Thanks a lot m8.
