AA is impossible
no matter what air vehicle it is (transport, cas) aa never seems to take it down. the AA kit is next to useless igla rarely hits and aa vehicles have hell taking down anything. no matter what the missiles always go for the flares and always miss. am i playing wrong if yes any suggestions?

Oh if you knew, the AA-kit is freaking win, you just need to know the tricks. If anything, then it's OP, basically 90% of the time you'll down your target, be it with the Stinger or the Strela.
The tactic that works best is not to scope in, you just go for the center of the screen and fire the missile blindly, it will lock on to your target in mid-air and no flares will be present to prevent a hit.

AA does take down a lot of stuff, so yeah, you're wrong. The larger choppers (Blackhawk, Chinook and Cow) can take a lot more damage than smaller CAS choppers. Not to mention the Huey which can take a shit load of fire.
Make sure you wait for a clear tone before firing the AA, and try to lead the shot a bit.

Re: AA is impossible
I would say there are certain maps that are problematic for AA, such as barracuda against choppers that are dive bombing their targets; that's when the AA is pretty nullified ingame.
How to correct that problem, I'm not sure.

DON'T lock-on with the portable AAs. About the emplacements, well that is sort of luck but depends on the situation. Vehicles are click and spam.godfather_596 wrote:seriously? even though i get a lock on and everything the missiles always miss last match we fired 2 strelas at 1 helicopter and they both missed any tips?

And THAT is why I freaking hate CAS now, everyone is doing it...Brainlaag wrote:Oh if you knew, the AA-kit is freaking win, you just need to know the tricks. If anything, then it's OP, basically 90% of the time you'll down your target, be it with the Stinger or the Strela.

edit: CAS vs CAS that is.

Oh god, reminds me of the current state of Vanilla BF2. When you're in an helicopter, your first priority and danger is the enemy attack helo. F(cking TV guided missiles lol.

Re: AA is impossible
Not true. Take look at Tales from the Front part of forums, and see a video called Stinger vs. Havoc (my vid). There are couple of factors for your shot.
1.) Placement of Heat source
Huey is flying tank, it has perfect Heat source for pilot. Almost impossible to shoot down, contrary to attack helicopters like Havoc which is pretty easy to shoot down. It has heat source probably in the middle of it.
2.) Direction of target
If target will go away from you while you shoot, there is really low chance you will get it. But if it is comming towards you as some Cobras and Havocs will do, if you shoot from underneath it, there is almost no chance for evasion.
This is something new for me btw, as many people say it is almost impossible to evade AA missile.

Re: AA is impossible
one time i killed a cobra with MEC igla and kiowa in ins mode
all what you have to do is lock on the chopper and stay the circle on target after 5 sec you gonna hear lock sound , fire and there you go
make sure to fire on target and away from any flares .
Good Luck

The Stinger can hit when firing without aiming and locking but the Strela can't. Also the Strela is garbage compared to the Stinger, it misses 80% of the time.

Them smelly lies. The Strela does miss more often but is in the end just as good as the stinger.Stealthgato wrote:The Stinger can hit when firing without aiming and locking but the Strela can't. Also the Strela is garbage compared to the Stinger, it misses 80% of the time.

Re: AA is impossible
It seems to me you all don't know the trick with aa missiles.
Rhino explained it a while ago.
The AA missiles will go for the closest target comp and that is TTHeat, doesn't matter if u have a "lock on" on the vehicle or not.
Air vehicles have this heat object and the flares too. So if u locked on an airvehicle, the missile will go directly to the heatsource that is the closest one.
That means:
If u locked on to an chopper, jet or whatever is flying, the missile will go for the closest heatsignature.
If an flare is between ur missile and your target, the missile go for the flare.
If the flares are behind the target, the missile will go for the jet, chopper whatever because "seek closest target comp".
If a jet is coming and starfing directly in front of u and pop his flares, 1 seconfd later, the flares are behind the jet, because he is moving forward and the flares are behind them and ur missile will hit. There is no escaping for the jet.
I shot many aircrafts by using this knowledge

Pretty much what you've said is correct, other than in order for the missile to fire in "locked mode", you must first lock on with the HUD, before you fire the weapon. If you fire the missile before your locked on with the HUD, most weapons will not track any targets as they have a "lock delay" to contend with.
