Low FPS, choppy gameplay

Post by firstroundko108 »

I used to play PR on this same rig about a year ago on all-high settings with no issues. I decided to re-install BF2 and PR this week, but now my gameplay is extremely choppy and jerky--to the point that I can't even get a kill when I am shooting.

Vista64
Intel Duo Core @ 2.8GHZ
nVidia 9800M GTS
4 GB RAM

-I have 40mb internet speed and a ping of ~50
-I have the latest driver for my video card
-No hardware has changed since I last played the game perfectly
-tried lowest settings, same thing

Hi, welcome back to PR,

I'm going to suggest the same things as I did to Dendari,

1st: defrag your harddrive, my guess is your PR and BF2 directories are fragmented on the reinstall. THIS IS MY MAIN SUGGESTION.
If yuo can, get a specialized defrag program that will move directories around specifically as you want, otherwise Windows defrag is good enough to help PR framerate.

2nd: carefully read and follow directions for your OS here:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... b-ram.html

3rd: download and install, configure and use Gamebooster 3 by IOBit. Game Booster 3 Free Download, Speed Up PC for Top Gaming Performance

4th: You have set your Page File set to a sliding value, I suggest
deleting pagefile.
rebooting.
resetting pagefile to a manual single minimum/maximum.

then optionally:
manually setting it to a single minimum/maximum, and getting a defrag progam that will move the pagefile to the beginning of your hard drive. A free option:FAQ Special files - How do I defragment "C:\pagefile.sys" (the swapfile)?

5th: Set your display to 1680x1050, see if that helps.

6th: Turn off Aero and as many other GUI whizbang graphics as you can. Especially Aero-type transparent GUI overlays.

7: Regular maintenance stuff, use CCLeaner, Antivirus, shutdown background programs (Gamebooster automates this step), etc.

I took all of your advice and after many hours of defrag and following your suggestions I'm now able to run everything on a mixture of high and medium settings with 4x AA. Still not what it used to be but I can freakin' play now and I thank you very much! 8-)
