Laggy/Jerky Gameplay
Hello everyone,
I've been having this with BF2 and all its mods(even with BF2142). This video show the exact problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=441FHpGB_kU
The problem is only present in multiplayer online games and it's completely absent in singleplayer and LAN games. It affects any action I do, such as jumping, sprinting, aiming and going prone.
It happens even on an empty server without PB and ping is constantly 50ms, so I doubt it's related to any of this things. My computer is good enough to run BF3 on High settings so I doubt it's even hardware related.
Hopefully someone can help me, I've been having this problem for months and I couldn't fix it.

Please give the details of your hardware, OS, and drivers. It's essential to help you out that we know quite a bit about the system.
Understand that BF2 and BF2142 are DX9 games, and BF3 is DX11 , so the direct comparison doesn't help so much.
Are you running any background programs related to gaming, such as FRAPS, MSI afterburner, or anything similar to those programs?
My first answer to these questions is, if you have BF2 installed on a HDD (and not a SSD), go ahead and defrag your hard drive.
Next is to check if your DX9 is up to date, check if your graphics drivers are up to date.
Could be related to anti alias problem in DX9 for your particular graphics cards, (any ATI below Radeon HD 5670), certain NVidia cards. Could be related to a few other settings in your graphic card drivers and software suite.
So, please give us as much info on your PC as possible, tell us:
OS , XP, Vista, win7, win8, ?
Is it 32 or 64 bit?
Graphics card make and model.
Graphics cards drivers version number.
Hardware: CPU, RAM, PSU, etc.
Specifically tell us how much RAM you have, this is another possible cause. We have a fix for this.
Have you tried lowering the graphics details levels in game when playing on a online server? Does this help?
Have you tried turning AntiAlias OFF completely on a online server? Does it help?

Re: Laggy/Jerky Gameplay
Thanks for your reply. This is my current system:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
GPU: nVidia GeForce GTX 460 1GB GDDR5 Driver Version 301.42
CPU: Intel i5 2500k @ 3.3GHz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3 1600MHz
PSU: Corsair VX550W
HDD: Seagate Maxtor 250GB 7200RPM 8MB
MOBO: ASRock P67 Pro3
All drivers are up to date. The only programs running in background are avast! Antivirus and programs related to the drivers (video, audio, etc.). I've tried with the lowest possible settings with no luck. I have done many defrag and I've even formatted many times (well actually I've even changed my PC in these months ).

[32Bit XP/Vista/7] Fix memory errors / Allow applications to use > 2GB RAM
---------------------
Download and install, and configure Gamebooster from IOBit.com
http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
It automates the shutting down of unneeded background processes before you start gaming. Frees up more RAM and CPU cycles.
--------------------
Some more questions,
What resolution do you play at? 1080? 1900x1200?
Connecting through WiFi or Cat5/6 cable to your router?
Have you tried completely turning off your antivirus and connecting to an online PR server?
--------------------
I got to get to sleep, I hope others will give you more options in the next few days.

This will reserve more RAM for BF2 , see if this helps.Windows Vista/7: How to setup increaseuserva Bootparameter
Navigate to Start>All Programs>Accessories>
Right-click "Command prompt" and choose "Run as administrator"
A command line window should open
Type in "BCDEdit /set increaseuserva 3072" (without quotation marks) (Screenshot)
3072 is the maximum, "2560" or "2816" is in most cases sufficent.
To let the changes take effect restart your computer

Re: Laggy/Jerky Gameplay
Thanks again for the reply.
My resolution is 1920x1080, I'm directly connected to the router and I'm already using Game Booster.
I'm gonna try the RAM fix and turning off the antivirus.
EDIT: tested and no luck.
EDIT2: I was wondering if there could be some kind of console command which can help
Running out of ideas.
Do you have any other DirectX 9 games installed? Do they also lag? Alternatively, you can download a older version of MSI Kombustor and run the DirectX9 stress test. MSI Kombustor 1.1.2 Available (GPU Tool, Download) - 3D Tech News and Pixel Hacking - Geeks3D.com
-------------------------
Just remembered a problem we had in early 2011 when SandyBridge was first released.
Question: When did you buy your i5 -2500k , was it before April 2011?
If you believe your CPU was manufactured before April 2011, you might have a problem that causes jitter/lag in DX9 games the moment that your TurbBoost ramps your CPU from 3.3Ghz to 3.7Ghz.
Download this TurboBooster monitor from Intel:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... ldID=19105
You can either run PR in windowed mode and keep the monitor running side by side, or just guess based on your prior experience with jitter. If you get jitter/freezes the exact moment TurboBoost turns on, then you have the older i5-2500K with the problem.
The test, is to boot in to BIOS, and turn off Turbo Boost. Save BIOS settings, continue regular boot, start PR and see if it helps.

Re: Laggy/Jerky Gameplay
Well I have some Valve games (CSS, TF2), BC2 (I run it in DX9 mode) and MW2 and I play them without any lag.
I bought my CPU few months ago (IIRC January).

I am having this exact same problem using Vista 64-bit. I played the game on this same rig a year ago on all-high settings with no lag/jerkiness whatsoever and now I can't even shoot someone in the game because it is so bad!

Re: Laggy/Jerky Gameplay
If you just reinstalled BF2 and or PR, your BF2 and PR files are fragmented on your hard drive, it is essential to get this fixed.
I suggest using a 3rd party defrag utility, MyDefrag v4.3.1 is a free one. O&O Defrag is a for pay option, there are many others.

'[R-COM wrote:LITOralis.nMd;1810996']Hi, welcome back to PR,
I'm going to suggest the same things as I did to Dendari,
1st: defrag your harddrive, my guess is your PR and BF2 directories are fragmented on the reinstall. THIS IS MY MAIN SUGGESTION.
If yuo can, get a specialized defrag program that will move directories around specifically as you want, otherwise Windows defrag is good enough to help PR framerate.
2nd: carefully read and follow directions for your OS here:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... b-ram.html
3rd: download and install, configure and use Gamebooster 3 by IOBit. Game Booster 3 Free Download, Speed Up PC for Top Gaming Performance
4th: You have set your Page File set to a sliding value, I suggest
deleting pagefile.
rebooting.
resetting pagefile to a manual single minimum/maximum.
then optionally:
manually setting it to a single minimum/maximum, and getting a defrag progam that will move the pagefile to the beginning of your hard drive. A free option:FAQ Special files - How do I defragment "C:\pagefile.sys" (the swapfile)?
5th: Set your display to 1680x1050, see if that helps.
6th: Turn off Aero and as many other GUI whizbang graphics as you can. Especially Aero-type transparent GUI overlays.
7: Regular maintenance stuff, use CCLeaner, Antivirus, shutdown background programs (Gamebooster automates this step), etc.

Re: Laggy/Jerky Gameplay
Hello everyone. Sorry to bump this old thread but I've recently recorded and uploaded two videos about the problem. NOTE: both videos are about vanilla BF2 and BF2142.
bf2142lag - YouTube
Battlefield 2 "laggy/jerky" - YouTube (in the description of this video you can find more details about the problem)
I've been searching around for a solution and some people seem to have this problem only with recent PC.
