Rewritten "About PR" Info Page

Post by ShockUnitBlack »

So Shock decided the "About PR" page needed an update thing as it clearly hasn't been changed in a few years, so he got to work.
Project Reality: Battlefield 2 is a free-to-download single and multiplayer game modification for the Battlefield 2 (BF2) retail Microsoft Windows PC game. Project Reality installs alongside your existing Battlefield 2 game installation, allowing both the original game and Project Reality to be played separately without conflict.

"Battlefield is all about fun, action-oriented gameplay. We'll leave the truly realistic experiences to the mod teams who thrive on that type of action." (DICE)

Project Reality reworks Battlefield 2, developed by Digital Illusions of Sweden (DICE), to create the most realistic and demanding virtual combat environment for PC gamers possible. This process has included everything from making dramatic improvements to Battlefield 2's already esteemed visual and sound effects to perfecting a true-to-life ballistics system that immerses the player in the battlefield like no other shooter can. Project Reality also drastically ups the scale of the original Battlefield 2 by featuring vast and exceptionally detailed battlegrounds as large as 64 square kilometers that take the player everywhere from the fjords of Norway to the narrow desert alleyways of Iraq to fight in massive team-versus-team battles with as many as 100 players.

"The only mod for Battlefield 2 that's worth playing. (That includes Battlefield 2 itself.)" (ModDB.com)

All of this is supplemented by strikingly realistic portrayals of the armed forces of the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Russia, Israel, China, France, and Canada, as well as numerous insurgent and irregular forces taken straight from today's headlines, giving Project Reality one of the most comprehensive and detailed armouries ever seen in a video game - spanning everything from old but powerful Lee-Enfield rifles to cutting-edge F/A-18F SuperHornet fighter jets.

"As close to war as you are going to get when it comes to the Battlefield franchise." (TotalBF2.com)

Along with this, Project Reality contains some of the deepest gameplay seen in video games today and is designed to promote both technical realism and teamwork without sacrificing accessibility in doing so. The result is a virtual battlefield that continually proves itself to be both enjoyable and intense to all manner of players, whether they be military enthusiasts out for a pitch-perfect simulation of a combat helicopter or casual gamers looking to experience an intense and challenging firefight with friends where teamwork is just as important as a quick trigger-finger.

"Get ready for one of the meanest, most ruthlessly demanding shooter experiences around." (IGN.com)

Overcoming fierce competition from over one hundred other mods, Project Reality won ModDB.com's definitive Mod Of The Year award in 2008 having come in second place in both 2006 and 2007. Project Reality is also one of only 21 mods inducted into ModDB's prestigious Hall Of Fame. Project Reality continues to boast a large player population eight years after its initial release, a testament to its continued development support, lasting appeal, and widespread popularity.

"Project Reality walks a beautiful line of realism and accessibility. The result is a united sense of satisfaction, addictive gameplay, and engaging warfare that rewards you as you march deeper into the battlefield." (GameSpy.com)

The Project Reality development team comprises of a group of dedicated and skilled modders, many of whom have backgrounds in armed services, who continue to push the limits of how far Battlefield 2 can be taken. Their mod is now in its twentieth incarnation, Project Reality version 1.0. That hasn't stopped or even slowed development however, as additions and improvements continue to be made to the mod on a regular basis to maintain its standing as one of the most realistic and enjoyable PC games on the market today.

Original
Project Reality is a free to download game modification for the Battlefield 2 (BF2) retail windows game. The Reality Mod installs alongside the existing game installation allowing both the original game and Project Reality to be played separately without causing conflicts.

The Mod developers aims are to rework the original game engine developed by Digital Illusions of Sweden (Dice) within legal and feasible constraints to create a more realistic combat environment for the gaming community. This includes adjusting various gameplay elements including physics, visual effects and overall game play formats. Along with changes to how the game handles, the PR team has introduced the British, Russian, Taliban and Insurgent factions, plus a number of community assisted factions are currently in the works to introduce Canadian, IDF forces and multiple others to the virtual battlefield.

Project Reality has won second place two years running in ModDB.com's annual Mod of the Year competition (2006 & 2007), culminating in first place in 2008. The competition is the definitive event that showcases the best mods and indie games in the world and recognises the teams behind them.

The Project Reality team comprises a group of dedicated individuals, several of whom have backgrounds in armed services and whose sole task is to provide researched material, including statistical information to the developers. These are in turn tasked with coding and creating the mod itself. If you are looking for a fact based first person shooter from the perspective of a combat soldier, we feel Project Reality will provide for your gaming needs.

"Battlefield is all about fun, action-oriented gameplay. We'll leave the truly realistic experiences to the mod teams who thrive on that type of action." (DICE)

"Battlefield will always be first about fun and secondly about realism. Realism implies complexity." (Sean Decker)

"As close to war as you are going to get when it comes to the Battlefield franchise" (TotalBF2.com)

"Get ready for one of the meanest, most ruthlessly-demanding shooter experiences around." (IGN.com)

The Mod is currently in its fifteenth incarnation, Project Reality 0.91. In its earliest forms, the Project Reality Mini-Mod series began as a platform to experiment with certain realism changes and analyse their impact on gameplay with the retail BF2 engine. As the changes have progressed into tried and tested features it has become a product with a frequent release schedule which provides the gaming community with ever increasing material on the battlefield whilst improving on the realistic gaming necessary to satisfy their needs.

The ultimate goal continues to be the path to develop and release Project Reality v1.0, a stable and complete build which will be a markedly increased step up from the Project Reality Mini-Mod beginnings. This will include a complete British faction, including their various soldier classes, weaponry, vehicles and assets, as well as additional factions created by the community with help from the core developers.

I took that line from the ModDB.com description of PR (which can be updated with this also) thing as I thought it sounded sort of punchy, but looking at it again it does seem like the cheese was laid on pretty thick. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. The line's gone and I hope the rest of it can be of use to you :)

If there's anything else you want me to write (I'm looking at redoing the features page), I would be happy to work on it.

"within legal and feasible constraints"

I believe there is no need to emphasize that, and stuff alike.

Project Reality: BF2 - Gameplay Features

Custom Game Modes:

Assault And Secure: Assault And Secure is Project Reality's unique take on Battlefield 2's hugely popular conquest mode and serves to focus the action on the game's huge battlefields on key military objectives. These objectives, which can range from everything from seizing an important refinery to eliminating enemy resistance from a city block, realize Battlefield 2's flag system on a much greater and more realistic scale than in the original game. Not only are the Project Reality's objective areas significantly larger than those of original game, they must be captured in a logical order - meaning that lone players can no longer capture undefended objectives far behind the frontlines and that coordinated team efforts are required to seize and hold positions. Project Reality's objectives are also dynamically generated, meaning you'll never see the same one twice, keeping the game fresh no matter how long you play it for.

Counterinsurgency: This is Project Reality's asymmetrical gamemode that pits the armies of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Israel, and Russia against insurgent and irregular forces in scenarios designed to evoke current and historical military situations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza, and Chechnya. In this gamemode, well-equipped BLUFOR forces such as the United States Marine Corps and British Army must destroy weapon caches hidden across Project Reality's large battlefields by first gathering intelligence regarding their locations and then going in for the kill. OPFOR forces, such as Hamas and the Taliban, must in turn defend these caches from the BLUFOR attacks using a variety of unconventional tactics such as the employment of booby-traps and hard-hitting improvised explosive devices. The result is an often frightening approximation of the complex and dangerous military situations that dominate the modern battlefield.

Co-Op: Project Reality's singleplayer and multiplayer cooperative gamemode with full AI support. Great for new players looking to get the basics of the game down before jumping online, players looking to fight against AI opponents with the help of friends, or veterans looking to polish up an element of their game. Numerous game and difficulty settings mean your game can be as easy or as challenging as you want.

Skirmish: This is Project Reality's small-scale infantry-only deathmatch gamemode and is intended to be played by small groups of players looking to take part in one of Project Reality's signature teamwork-heavy infantry battles.

Vehicle Warfare: This is Project Reality's armour-only variation of Assault And Secure that puts the player in the crew one of Project Reality's numerous tanks (including the Challenger 2, M1A1 Abrams, Merkava IV, Leopard 2, and T-90) to take part in one of the game's ultra-realistic armour battles.

Unmatched Technical Realism -

Project Reality introduces a new level of technical realism to both the Battlefield franchise and team-based shooters as a whole. Here, one or two bullets can kill you in an instant, tanks can see and hit targets from kilometers away through thermal optics, and attack helicopters can level whole buildings with a single Hellfire missile.

To survive in this environment requires thoughtfulness and restraint on the part of the player; to be successful in it demands the same and then some. It's a shooter like no other: one that requires a higher level of thinking to play at its best (not that a fast trigger-finger won't help, too).

Despite all this, Project Reality remains hugely accessible - its learning curve can be as steep or as flat as you want it, and it's a realistic battlefield absolutely anyone can take part in to help their team.

Great Community -

Project Reality is renowned for having one of the best gaming communities anywhere. The game's intrinsic teamwork means Project Reality has some of the best team players around, while the heavy communication demanded by the game between squad members creates an extraordinary level of realism and cooperation. Project Reality's players are also well-known for being welcoming towards new players - the game isn't just for hardcore military simulation enthusiasts!

Innovative Spawn System -

Project Reality has a new and unique system of handling player spawns. Spawning can no longer be done on flags or your squad leader's position. Instead, players spawn on either forward operating bases, insurgent hideouts, or squad rally points, all of which are can be deployed by squad leaders anywhere on the battlefield. The result is a dynamic battlefield where the locations of enemy positions are never certainties.

Realistic Arsenals -

Soldiers in Project Reality are equipped with new and realistic gear ranging from Stinger anti-air missile launchers to entrenching tools. Players can now spot ground targets for aircraft with new laser designators, throw powerful incendiary grenades, lay tripwires, customize their weapon with everything from grenade launchers to advanced holographic sights, and take aim at the enemy with over one hundred accurately modelled handheld weapons.

New And Improved Vehicles -

Project Reality features a huge vehicle fleet that spans AH-64D Apache Longbow attack gunships to Merkava IV main battle tanks. Unlike in the original Battlefield 2, Project Reality's tanks and similar vehicles require multiple crew members to operate effectively, making teamwork vital. Meanwhile, Project Reality accurately models vehicle weapons, armour and damage levels, while new and powerful thermal optics allow for extremely realistic target acquisition.

Maps -

Project Reality comes with over thirty unique maps based off real geographical locations, all outfitted with a range of custom statics ranging from mosques to nuclear missile silos and everything in-between. Project Reality's battlefields span the scorched deserts of the Middle East, mountains of Afghanistan, steppes of Russia, dense forests of Eastern Europe, jungles of Southeast Asia, fjords of Norway, to the American heartland, creating one of the most diverse selections of maps seen in a videogame today.

Project Reality's maps are also significantly larger than those featured in vanilla Battlefield 2. To give an estimation of the size of some of Project Reality's maps, most vanilla BF2 maps are approximately four square kilometers in size or smaller, while most of Project Reality's maps are sixteen-square kilometers in size - four times larger. The result is maps that require a high level of team coordination to be successful on and that provide limitless opportunities to outmaneuver and outthink opponents.

New Classes -

Project Reality introduces a range of new and updated player classes to the battlefield, each with their own roles and tactical nuances. New classes include the designated marksman, officer, anti-air rifleman, crewman, pilot, rifleman specialist, anti-personnel rifleman, light anti-tank rifleman, and insurgent "collaborator," amongst others, while updated classes include the sniper, combat medic, heavy anti-tank, assault, combat engineer, and support classes.

Kit-Request System -

In a system unique to Project Reality, specialist kits have been limited and made available exclusively to members of squads in order to best facilitate teamwork and tactics in these groups. By realistically rationing unique and powerful equipment such as machineguns and sniper rifles, squads now have more realistic loadouts and have to use them effectively to succeed in combat.

Updated Commander Features -

Commanders in Project Reality have access to a much expanded suite of options that allow them to call in extremely powerful JDAM and artillery strikes, spot targets with an updated UAV, and mark team waypoints and objectives.

New Logistics System -

Project Reality has introduced a unique logistics system that ensures that a coordinated team will always be well armed and repaired on the frontline via supply drops from trucks and helicopters.

New Deployable Asset System -

Project Reality has a revolutionary building construction system that allows squads to deploy vital equipment and weapons such as TOW and anti-air missile launchers, foxholes, mortars, concertina wire, and heavy machineguns anywhere on the battlefield to defend and control key areas, adding a new and important strategic dynamic to the battlefield.

Streamlined HUD -

Project Reality's heads-up display has been heavily modified to keep with the mod's realistic theme, with unnecessary and unrealistic HUD elements removed in favour of a much more streamlined interface that puts Project Reality's powerful updated graphics front-and-centre.

The following vanilla Battlefield 2 heads-up display elements have been removed: cross-hairs; long-range nametags; enemy nametags; hit and kill indicators; health and ammunition bars; infantry minimaps.

Full Mumble VOIP Support -

Project Reality features full support for the Mumble VOIP program, meaning positional vocal audio and the ability to for squad leaders to communicate directly to each other are featured for the first time ever in the Battlefield franchise, allowing for greatly increased and far more effective communication within and between squads.

Dug out and posted a redo of the features page I'd worked on a while back. Not edited and not, if I remember correctly, complete, but you get the idea.

it's good but a little embellishing.

One of the things that caught my interest to actually bother with this was basically just dudes actually talking to each other. I probably saw some video of two tanks moving together or something. YOu've included that which is nice, though the overuse of the word teamwork can be obnoxious, perhaps insulting.

like "quit playing that baby shit you've been playing and play a REALL game"
