Saitek AV8R-01. I use it for everything, PR:BF2, ArmA, DCS World and Lock On. It's cheap and reliable. I've had mine for 3 years and taken it on 2 deployments and it still looks and operates like it's brand new.

In past years there was a debranded version of that Saitek joystick being sold direct from the contract manufacturer through websites in Asia. Was always cheaper, and had better toggle switches.
And i regret not buying the debranded one back then.

Re: Joystick recommendations
Yeah, that's the only thing I can think of against it. The 2 buttons on top (the red fire button with the cover and the black one opposite of it on top) feel a little loose, but not too bad. I only use the toggle switches on DCS World and Lock On to zoom in and out and center my view, so I really have no opinion on whether I like them or not. And here soon, I really won't use them at all when I get a TrackIR 5. Still a very solid buy for what you get for the price.[R-COM]LITOralis.nMd wrote:and had better toggle switches

You take a gaming-joystick to a deployment to steer an MQ-9 (Reaper) or why?mangeface wrote:Saitek AV8R-01. I use it for everything, PR:BF2, ArmA, DCS World and Lock On. It's cheap and reliable. Uh...I took a gaming joystick on a deployment to play my games during my downtime. I didn't think that one would need explaining.
Not to mention the MQ-9 is used by the USAF, and I was in the USMC. We use the AAI RQ-7 Shadow, Boeing ScanEagle, AeroVironment Wasp III and we have some unmanned versions of the Kaman K-MAX in OPEVAL.

Re: Joystick recommendations
Wiki-links (to those names) would be pretty awesome, mangeface... -.-

EDIT: the RQ-7 looks pretty old, no wonder it's 1st flight was in 1991... xD BUT: Costs: "Per system: US$15.5 million (2011 dollars
Per aircraft: US$750,000 (2011 dollars)"

Re: Joystick recommendations
I have the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, and it's decent....the other guys may have a good point about the other options, but for your first JS, this isn't a bad choice! You at least have a twist rudder on it...

My first joystick (actually second if you count the Sidewinder from my early years) was a 3D Pro. I spent a lot of time using it in PR. Works great for helos and jets.
I like my X52 and Pedals more though.

Re: Joystick recommendations
Treat your Extreme 3D Pro VEEEERY well!!! After 2 years now mine is "broken", I can not pull up jets anymore (maybe I always pulled up too strong and too enthusiastic... -.-
), so pull up very decent...
Borrowed a Force 3D now from a mate, the force feedback is NOOOOT working in BF2 and not even in BF3... -.- OMG what is this o_O
Well, I go for an Extreme 3D Pro again soon, I guess... xD Although F16-style HOTAS would be epic, but yeah, problem is the "reasonable" price of about 100 euros...
