Yeah you should make 2 views, one zoomed when pressing X/zoom and one view like the other cannons where you are laid back from the scope having a better view angle.

You don't have to model 2 views, just the sight.
The other view can be coded.

Mmmmk, well here are a couple rough pics, nothing done to chamfer, and actually I'm having issues chamfering the shield hole because the geometry gets a bit messed up :/

Anyways, the first would be unzoomed (although since AD says its a coder thing I may not need to change the model for that) and the second would be a zoomed version, no changes to the model but the only thing really showing would be the barrel and the sight. I will add the actual sights later in photoshop to a plane when I get to texturing it.

Ok, Jk, I think I am going with a plane instead of the tube like I showed, just realized it would probably look cleaner and better that way :P

AD is right, you don't need to make 2 views, just concentrate on the zoomed one.

Chamfered the corners of the viewport in the shield a bit, if I didn't do it too much because they are supported to be fairly "cornery" still :P

Would it be easier to do all of the unwrapping and texturing first, collapse everything, and then do the zoomed version with the scope after everything is done? I was thinking that because then I wouldn't have to go back and reunwrap everything like the barrel, since it would already be textured; all I would need to do would be delete the things the player won't see.

Ok, I went into photoshop and learned a little bit finally :D

I took the reference for the flak sight and I made my own, same thing but I did make this one from scratch just for quick practice :P

Thanks! I'm going to tweak the scope a lot since right now it doesnt look too great. I am waiting to unwrap anything just in case I notice anything wrong, but I will start it when I have time!

That example posted a while back with the glock will really help me when I start texturing, I''ll just do a metallic look like its base coat but with the tannish color.

Which also reminds me, do we want both flak cannons the same general color, which for this time I believe would be tannish with light olive drab splotches? It is still aways away until I start that, but I'd like to get an idea ahead of time!

Very intradesting indeed :) .

Regarding the color, I think it should be similar to this:

Shielded version = German cammo
Unshielded version = Panzergrau-ish

I think those mils marks shouldnt be there, as a trained gunner would know his sight by heart and wouldnt need them, they just make it harder to see things. They are no use to us ingame, too.

The ones from FH2? They are very correct. I'm sure Ts4ever can tell us more about it :) .

keep in mind its 4x magnified
(2) ELBOW TELESCOPE. The elbow telescope is of fixed focus type, has 4X magnification and a field of view of 17 degrees 30 minutes. The image remains erect during the rotation of the telescope. The filter knob and detent positions each of the filters: clear, green, light neutral and very dark neutral. A window and a dovetail surface permit attachment of a lamp for illumination of the reticle. The reticle pattern (fig. 81) permits rapid centering of reticle on target in desert glare and has indications for estimating lead.
II. Sighting Equipment | 4. Sighting and Fire Control Equipment | TM E9-369A: German 88-mm Antiaircraft Gun Materiel - Technical Manual, U.S. War Department, June 29, 1943 (Lone Sentry)

I am not sure how 3D magnified sights work on vehicles, but im fairly sure you wouldnt see edges of the shield with it, maybe even the barrel?

EDIT: The 2d part looks really good, though.

Ok, I was going off of the zoom option from FH2 because I had no idea, and honestly I don't care either way which position the zoom is in, thats up to you guys and I'll take the group's vote for it :)

I dirtied up the lens a bit the best I could as a newb, added a little yellow to it, and I have both positions, behind and in front of the shield. Only drawback for the behind the shield area, as those who have played FH2 have probably found, is that the shield blocks much of the screen when aiming into the air, because the scope is placed from the viewpoint of the crewman.

I'm good for either view, like I said, you guys choose and I'll put it there, here's an example for both :)

Edit: As a note, I've updated the p3d.in file for the shield/non-shield, changed minor things such as the feet and positioning.

Actually for the sights, i think its best bet to just open the spg in bfmeshview, and do it like its done there. And i think the shield really isnt visible through the sights, and maybe not even the barrel. Sights have field of view 17 degrees 30 minutes, you can measure that in max, too, and match it to real world :)

Ok, just looking at the spg in the editor (great idea btw! :D ), I think I will just use a plane with my texture on it and not worry about modeling a scope onto it.

I am wondering how I will measure though, or make a zoom, for the scope so as you will not see the barrel or anything as lucky has said, I haven't played with measuring things in it before :/
