Call for more tolerance towards new Maps

Post by Nugiman »

Hey guys, I just have to write this to make you guys thinking and hopefully to get a change of the current situation.

The problem is the following thing:
Small DEV teams releasing mini-mods for PR like PR:Vietnam, PR:Falklands and PR:Normandy.
Always when there is a new release the maps are being played for about 1 or 2 weeks, on 24/7 servers mostly, until the player numbers decrease and the 24/7 servers get unpopulated.
After 2 weeks, the mod dies until the next release.

I wonder why this always happens, though most of the players seem to like the mods/maps.
They bring us new variation from the old maps.

Why we don't just integrate them on normal servers, that are being filled-up everyday?
Like NwA, PRTA, NEW and so on...

Sure some guys might not like the maps. But some people don't like Vadso City, Kashan, Burning Sands or what ever and we STILL play it everyday on the servers. So whats the deal about the mini-mod-maps?
If they dont like it, they can leave the server.

The excuse of having to download it simply doesnt count because it take you about 2 minutes to download it.

Im asking the community for a change, lets integrate the mini-mods to regular servers in regular map rotations!

I mean how awesome would this be?
We can simulate the history of war about over 8 decades! From the 40s over the 60s, 80s to nowadays.
Why we dont use the ability to play all those awesome maps?

Dont tell me to wait for 1.0 when they get integreated anyways, the mini-mods are already released at the moment!

I would love to have mini mods in the normal rotation.
The only problem is that many people won't have these addons and until they are all in the full game included. I think there won't be that big of a chance to see the addon maps in normal rotation, because many people only check the forums every 2 months.

Hopefully we will see some mini mod only servers soon.

today, i looked into prspy for curisity to investigate what maps are the servers playing after the falklands realese, and vietnam. I must say I was not surprised, and dissapointed as always:
kashan ,muttrah, kashan, kokan and fallujah, that was the order

why do the falklands maps are said to be overplayed after a few matches in a week, and equally good maps or not (yes im looking at kashan XD) that are played over and over again by the same servers not get "overplayed" , thats what the server admins should think about

Most of the player downloaded it already, and if not, they still can, do they?
If it'll become mandatory the rest will download it, too.

Why won't people play the Vietnam maps? Too much shooting, not enough driving?

Ia Drang is criminally underplayed.

It's easy.

Servers run the maps, they see that they lose players by doing so because some don't have them, which kills their servers, so they stop hosting them. Or players complain that they crash too much, etc.

So the only way to properly play mini-mods, is to have them INSIDE normal PR, like PR:V and PR:F will be. So everyone gets the same content.

mumble kind of defeats your point
servers enforced it, lost some population, but for the greater good ;)

Its annoying, when map is being developed much encouargement and people asking for this or that.

But hard to get players on.

Our hope is that at least once in each week there is Falklands or Vietnam or Normandy event going on till 1.0....

They seem to fill OK. Nice to see the 100p being used in such a noble role.

At the moment I'm a bit off many 4km maps a bit long very player dependant, so I enjoy a change atm.

Falklands 100p tomorrow, we've got the Beta of Brecourt 100p Sunday 21, we just need another PRV night for soon not to clash with anything else.

I think that if every server puts them in the rotation you enforce them to download it. The reason they don't download it nos is due to the fact that servers who are populated every day don't run them. It is one big circle after all.

Thats right.
Mumble showed that the community has a negative view on new things at the beginning, but in the end it profits more than ever before.

Sometimes you just have to be cruel to be kind. ;)

Force the community to download the mods and after some weeks in standard-map-rotation no one will ask why they are there, they will just love it!

yep, i agree sure you'll see a few angry faces and a slight drop in players the first week but in the end it would be worth.

It "worked" on PRTA with mumble when 0.5 was present. The first months we had almost no mumblers getting in, whole lotta kicking was made. After that, not so much.

I never played PR in its glory days and only just got BF2 cause I got it for free through a glitch. From a new players perspective having to download separate addons didn't deter me at all. Apparently according to what players ingame say the falklands map is a shitty map. I don't know why they say it's shitty and I've still yet to have a chance to really play it to its fullest. I have a feeling the falklands is hailed as shitty because to really enjoy the map you have to work as a fully coordinated team and that is often too challenging to get 32 random people to do without solid leadership.

The mod really reminds me of RO1 and what kept that game alive and enjoyable for so long was TONS of maps (custom content too). The amount of good custom maps was ridiculous.

I'm excited for 1.0 release and glad to see the mod is still played. Some seem to say PR is dead but when you have 5 full servers during the day and 2 or 3 during the evening that doesn't bother me. The community may be small but their dedicated.

falklands is shitty in the same sense that upgrading from an old *** ugly operating system, to a new and better one is.

It's abrasive, and challenging at first, but once you adapt youre far better off. I've yet to see anyone but myself actually articulate why falklands is "bad", and even then I redacted or refuted my own points as **** later. I actually still think it has issues as infantry combat, but is more than playable, and also unique

If everything is included in the next release, that is a great idea and gives no reason to have minimods in the regular rotations. I hate Kashan and Muttrah. Falklands is bad because people haven't adapted to the challenge yet.

On the =HOG= server we run the falklands AAS pretty much each day at least once but it just doesn't fill up, when we switch to a regular map the server fills up in the blink of an eye.

So, if you want to show your support for those maps, join servers that are running them :)
