This thread wasn't only on the Falklands especially.
It's the latest mini-mod release, but not the only one.
Lets integrate all of them, PR:V as well and so on.

Someone said we can wait for release 1.0, but how long is that? A couple of month?
Why should I play the same old boring maps for a couple of month when we already can play new, refreshing maps with different settings NOW ?
Wheres the problem?

Seems like most of the PR players are pussies that are frightened of changes.
Or nazis towards new maps.
Or just too bad to adapt a different gaming style (yes, PR:V and PR:F requires you too play a bit different because of lack of binoculars and scopes)

Sure HOG tries to fill up Falklands everyday, but thats only one server. Players seem too lazy to fill up a server, I myself dont really like filling up servers as well because it takes long, is painfull and not much fun. Dont want to waste my time for that.
But imagine a full server running kashan, and after it, a PR:V map and maybe 10 players drop, but that space can be filled up again with no problems.

Integrate them into the server rotations!
Sick of kashan, kokan, muttrah

I think the difference between enforcing mumble and "enforcing" the mini mods is that when we started enforcing mumble the active community was much larger and healthier. If you kicked a guy "This server requires mumble, etc" he would be replaced almost immediately. Or rather the dozens of people we kicked in an evening would be replaced almost immediately. These days if you lost 10 - 20 guys because you switched to a PR:V map, the server probably just wouldn't recover.

If you enforce it, like mumble got enforced, people will have to download and play it. Maybe they complain at the beginning, but like it was with mumble, a big success will be gained.
Lets make PR more varied with more maps, NOW, and not in a half a year when 1.0 finally comes...
Why should we wait so long if we can do it already?

I cant do anything for it, I dont have a server neither im in a clan with a server ability, but the least thing we all could do is to shout out that a big part of the community wants that change for more variation so popular server like PRTA, NEW, NwA and so on put it in their regular rotation.

It requires to click a few links and get up to speed with the addons and mappacks... too much for some people, and thats why it dies pretty quickly. Not to mention i has limited content and that doesnt help either. People do support the causes and dev teams, but the percentage against the pub players is quite small.

These mini-mods are in alpha/beta stage and are thus too buggy to be included in normal server rotation, IMO. Falklands is really bad for crashing servers/players all the time - a great way to empty servers. There's also the problem of not all people having the mods installed which makes things worse.

Wait for the bugs to be ironed out and the content rolled into v1.0 I say, then we'll get to see what's good, or not.

The irony of this is that if the minimods are not played, mainly in the case of PR:F, then we are not going to be able to find these "bugs" to be able to iron them out.

So far I have only a hand fall of very sketchy bug reports to these major CTDs and apparent server crashes, which so far I've not had one server admin give me a detailed report about...

Until we have anything to go on, chances of fixing these bugs and then being able to integrate it into v1.0 are next to none.

As such, we need servers to run it, we need players to play it, and when either of them "crash" or w/e, we need full reports with as much info as you can give us. Only then do we have any hope of identifying the problem as we can not reproduce these crashes on our own currently.

As for thm being a "great way to empty servers", I've seen many a server play them totally fine, the 100p event ran very well with the server being full most of the time and only heard of one squad crash, that was until the server came under a DDOS attack which then lagged the server out, no fault of the map/mod...

The servers need to grow some balls and put them in the rotation. Any signs of weakness must be tolerated! No really they need to chance their additude towards all the lazy people who refuse to download it.

What the devs actually can do is put a little message after the PR installation saying that these minimods exist and provide links, just what they've done with mumble and punkbuster.

TBH the percentage of players who have these minimods installed is much higher than most people think...

I can tell you that since its release on the 5th of Oct, almost 7,000 people have installed PR:F.

Now I can also tell you the amount of unique players that have played PR from the begging of this month is almost 10,000 players, note that also includes the unique players who have only played in the 5 days before PR:Fs release of this month till today.

That basically means around 70% of the active community has PR:F installed which is easily more than enough to fill a single server running the map and keep it running.

Now the auto updater is what screwed up PR:V so some can't play without manually updating it we know, but PR:F doesn't have that problem so there is really no excuse.

Well I've reinstalled so it's only 6999

On the 100p night we had quite alot of CTD's in the 64 version, I'd estimated at around 50 - I was one.

What reports can Server admins give you to help (I am one).

Would CTD's be less frequent on a 64 or just the same?

And many of the unique players who have logged on once during this month haven't probably logged on again since :p

I hope your not taking into account the people that got disconnected when the DDOS attack happened, that isn't related.

If 50 people CTDed out the event would have been over well before the DDOS attack happened. But ye, there where a few, only ones I noted was the Sea Harrier squad all CTDed out... Would like to hear what they where all doing etc at that time + any other player reports anyone has on CTDs should be posted here: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f562-p ... ports.html

There is a post here in the SA admin froums, but since you are not one, you won't be able to see it: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f109-p ... ports.html

You need to ask who ever setup your server licence to give you server moderator access.

But for server crashes, any log files, crash dumps, and any other info that can be given in relation to the crashes is what I really need. Right now I have nothing to go on, on these "server crashes" which I haven't seen any of myself, only heard the odd admin say "it crashes our server constantly" with no other info, and I can't reproduce it since it seems directly related to how many players are on the server.

Nice to know that the numbers are that high. :D

And I love both PR:F and PR:V, so if I see one of my usual servers running those maps, I will choose that server.

Currently over 100 players playing PR:F across multiple servers and 100 players testing/playing PR:N, so that's over 1/3 of the players currently online playing the addons :D

Image

EDIT: also funny thing, 30mins later after HOG has swapped from the Falklands where it had 51 players in as per the above pic, its dropped to 37 players after switching to Muttrah and all the players seemed to have gone into QRF server from it which is now fully running PR:F :p
Image

Think that should be pretty clear evidence to most server admins that players want to be playing these addons more and the current maps less ;)

We could just remove Muttrah and be done with it.

Why won't be PR:Normandy in?

And by the way: The events were very pleasing to me, had much fun on PR:F 100p event and PR:N 100p, but that was just on a weekend.
And after these events...nothing. Regular maps. Like always.

Everyone had much fun on the events, doesnt this show that they should be included on regular map rotations?

It's because Project Normandy doesn't have the same quality that PR:V and PR:F have. Also Project Normandy isn't released yet, just the Brecourt map, and server files weren't released to everyone.

My estimate comes from seeing the amount who suddenley left squads and being in the out of game PRTA mumble channel for quite a while hearing people saying they had who rejoined.

I've been a server admin for years....
