Slow loading maps

Post by Spiked_Ghost »

Hi, I've been playing pr on the same system for years without major problems.
Then I decided I wanted to speed things up and got myself a Vertex 4 256GB SSD.
Installed Win 7 64bit then PR. Problem is now that maps load a lot slower for some reason.
More specifically the first 15% (Objects). After 15% the rest loads faster.
It takes about a minute and a half to get to 15% and it takes 2 minutes to load the map completely. With my old HDD (ide) the entire map would load in 30 seconds.
Also the rest of my system flies now with the SSD. Specs of my PC are:

Windows 7 64bit
AMD 955 quad core
8GB RAM
Vertex 4 256GB SSD
GeForce GTX 560 1GB

Also video settings are all set to medium just like before.

IDK much about the new VErtex4,

in general, have you optimized your system for the SSD?

I have tried everything in that guide short of reinstalling windows again but including switching to ahci (oops, forgot that in the first place). But nothing seems to help.

Obviously has to do with large file read times with the SSD,
I have a Vertex3 and have a similar situation I've never figured out how to solve.
That is why I didn't give you more info.

I just tried loading large maps on vanilla and they load quickly (20 seconds). Reviews of the Vertex 4 say that it loads large files very fast.

Maybe someone else knows how to fix this?

Is there a possibility that my ssd is bugged / defected ?

I have the same issue. I upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit BUT I have an HDD drive and not SSD. I don't think it is hard drive related and someone to do with PR interacting with 64 bit. It has been about 2 minutes an I'm at 13% on loading. I was hoping to find a solution here.

One possibility, are you running a CD version? I think I had faster load times with Steam but I had to switch due to crashing issues. I don't recall a significant difference however.

Found one fix... Are you running Webroot? I am. I disabled it and it runs pretty damn fast now. This sucks. I just paid 60 bucks renewing it.

I use malewarebytes and I was using win7 64 before I switched to the ssd and it was loading fast. I'm so pissed off! Only reason I bought the ssd was for faster load times.

You can have both hard drives on your computer. Just have PR on the old one and everything that actually works on the new one.

The problem is that the old (windows is not on that one) one got corrupted and windows takes 22 minutes to start.

I would try more techy centric forums in that case.

Have you run benchmarks to make sure that your SSD is performing as it should?

I am learning about motherboards and I discovered something that may be causing your issue. Some motherboard chipsets support and do not support SSD caching. What is SSD caching? I do not know. But I'm guessing that it is possible your motherboard doesn't support it and may be a cause of your issue.

Also make sure you have SATA III 6.0gb/s as current SSDs saturate the SATA II 3.0gb/s ports.

Wouldn't cause his issue. It's just a performance gain mechanism on top of the conventional gains garnered by SSDs.

Here's info.

Also wouldn't cause his issue. He is taking longer to load than conventional spinning disks so bandwidth saturation doesn't mean squat. :-)

I have the same problem. Bf2&PR on a Vertex3 64Gb non-boot drive on a Sata3 connection.

Tried everything I could think of,
uninstalled all firewall/antivirus type apps, no difference.
Tried installing the required dlls and other background stuff onto the SSD using a Junction symlink, no help.
Put page files onto various HDDs, no help.
Then I gave up.
