Broken grafic card?

Post by NiLsFiSH. »

Hi!
Yesterday my computer froze and the screen went black with red marks.
I had to force the computer off and when i restarted the screen was black for a while, there were no startup info and then the screen went black with red marks and white stripes, see pictures. Also my keyboard cant start up, its a logitech g19.

I tried:

- to start computer only, without anything exept for the LCD, connected.
- another LCD that i know works.
- to clean the inside of the computer. Quite alot of dust at the cpu.

I opened the computer and this is what i can tell about the specs:

- Asus P5N-E SLI
- 4x1gb unb pc2-6400 cl5
- Albatron Nvidia Gforce
I use Windows XP Pro Sp3

Anyone have an idea what happend?

seems like VRAM said goodbye to you. Sorry but its dead dead if its true. Do you have spare card to put in its place, maybe slot died. :(

P.S. Same monitor here :D mine still feels like brand new ;)

Thanks for response!

What is VRAM and is it easy to fix for a computer noob as me?
Like: buy a new one - get rid of old - put in new one - play PR?

Ive searched the internet and find some info but no tutorials or what it cost.

You're probably up for a new card tbh...

Did you come across the tuts for cooking your card? i.e; The Oven Trick (repairing your broken video card with an oven) | Overclockers I note no feedback on whether it actually works...

It does not work in 60% from my own personal experience, but hell, why not try. Its broken anyways.

Yes, i read about the baking thing but thought it was a joke.
The thing is im not 100% sure whats broken so i wont take a chance.

Now, if i try to fix this by myself when im not sure what the problem is it can cost me alot of $$.
I can pay someone to fix it for me but the result will be the same, too much $$ for a old computer.
I?ve been thinking about buying a new computer anyway so thats what i probalbly do next week and sell this to a low price.

How do Windows 7 work with Bf2/PR?
