I'm considering writing a companion app for PR:BF2 for Windows 8 / Phone 8.
It'd have PRSPY, map info, weapon info, vehicle models, etc.
Any interest, or will I end up being the only user?

dont see too much practical use to it, I think.
YOu know how various popular online discussion boards and such have specialized apps to browse them, as most websites are made for desktop/laptop browsers, and thus browsing them a mobile browser is kind of abrasive? You could do that for this forum, I guess. Never really been here on my S3, so I dont know if it's worth it anyways

I don't mean that this would be a simple forum reader. It'd provide unique functionality, e.g. visualization of maps w/ heightmap data, 3D view of the weapon/vehicle models, vehicle spawn timers, annotatable maps, etc. It'd be more of a PR field manual you can use while playing the game. I always have my phone/tablet next to me when playing, so it seemed useful.
Maybe I'm just in a unique situation of having played PR enough to want something like this, but not having played enough to have already memorized all the information that would go into it.

There are plans for a PR Windows 8 Modern UI app to be made internally by the development team, so you may be duplicating efforts.

That's interesting. But one honest question, why bother? From what i've heard & yet to validate Windows 8 is not going to be a good platform for gaming due to it being heavily slanted toward tablets/phones.

Maybe the Metro aspect, but there still is a desktop.SGT.Ice wrote:That's interesting. But one honest question, why bother? From what i've heard & yet to validate Windows 8 is not going to be a good platform for gaming due to it being heavily slanted toward tablets/phones.

While I don't expect to see a ton of PR-class games switch to the new app model overnight, I think it's a good fit for a companion app like the one I described. The assumption is that people would use it either on a second monitor, or on a second device altogether (e.g. tablet) while playing the full game.

We still need an app to notify people via Text/FB/Rss/Email that there is a new round that has begun, personally I think there is a lot of money to be made here in ads, but I just don't have the skills for that kind of work.

Yeah, Windows 8 is matter of taste. 11 years of same basic style Windows and then boom, Windows 8 with metro menu. I will stick with W7 but sure will try out W8 after new year so the support for programs is up.
