Keeping files organized software?

Hey guys, so got my new pc works like a beast but I was wondering if anyone has any software they recommend to keep things organized and to stop cluttering up space on the drives with all the little bits and pieces cause I download tons of stuff and it always such a mess of my pc. Any thoughts?

I only keep core programs on my ssd, other programs on another drive and keep all my documents/music and stuff on the NAS.

But really, Depending on what you mean by keep your pc clean there are tons of ways to interpret this. If you are using windows 7 and are worried about fragmentation of files across platters then don't, it runs defrag automagically in the background If you are worried about Where all of your files are getting dowloaded to the answer is super easy, create one folder, or better yet use the "downloads" folder that is created by the OS as a single point of entry into your system. Any program you use to download any software/music/pictures/movies should be configured in the options to download into the downloads folder. By default in widnows 7 the downloads folder lives at C:\Users\<User_Name>\Downloads. It will also drop a copy in your links directories and in C:\Users\Default.

1. your OS partition should be no larger than the size of the SSD you can next afford.
2. Keep your OS partition as small as possible.
3. Move all your windows 7 libraries to another partition.

Optimizations after System Setup:
-> (Click to hide)
Move user folder locations to Secondary HDD:
Go to your User folder.
Right click your user folder you want to move (ex. the "My Pictures" folder).
Click "Properties."
Click the "Location" tab.
Change the destination to another location bu clicking "Move..." and selecting the destination (ex. "D:\Pictures").
Note 1: If there are two of the same folder in the User folder after the move (ie. My Documents "A" and My Documents "B") you should delete the empty one located on the C: drive. (May need to go into safe mode to delete it) Do not delete the other User folders, only duplicates that come up after the move within the User folder.
Note 2: If the folder already exists that you are linking it to you may want to merge the folders.

Follow this guide now while your New PC is not cluttered:

TotalCommander is the holy grail of what you're looking for,

FreeCommander is a good free alternative to TC,
Cubic Reality Software is another good free alternative to TC

Only one real important rule:
Set your default download folders to a partition or hard drive OTHER THAN YOUR C: OS DRIVE.
