Help me get started with PR:BF2

Post by theanzelm »

Hi everyone!

I'm a dude from Germany and learned about PR:BF2 from youtube videos.
I've watched several complete rounds (1h+) of different people and I'm completely hooked!
I love the tactical and teamwork approach to it and the people all seem really friendly.

So I decided to start playing it as well, but how do I start?
I'll figure out installation and all the technical stuff, but what is the best way to become a part of the community?

I'd like to play as something simple (no medic, sniper, specialist) as part of a squad with VOIP for the beginning. I'm familiar with FPSs in general and through the videos got an overview of some of the micro and macro gameplay goals in PR:BF. Also I'm able to understand most of the 'military' language already (although some acronyms are still puzzling).

So what would you recommend?
Which are good servers (preferably EU timezone) to get started on?

Thanks for your help!

Just join a server and join a squad. Tell the squad that you're new and hopefully they'll understand and help you get started.

Yup, just hop into a game (won't hurt to have a friend with you obviously, so feel free to add people (except for Wicca) to Steam/xfire), tell the squad leader you're new and that you'd like to play Rifleman. You can also create an empty LAN server to practice (either against bots, or on an empty multiplayer map to get used to how advanced weapon systems work). If you have any specific questions, you're invited to ask in this thread and we'll try to give you as much advice as possible ;)

Check PRSpy for servers (Link is on the top of the forum) - there's some german speaking ones, not sure how populated they are at the moment, but most European servers should be fine ping-wise. English doesn't appear to be a problem for you, so just join any game and any infantry squad :)

Make sure you're running mumble. Perhaps ask Microwaife or Predator.v2 to test it with you to be sure that it works properly.

Check our pms.

You can join me/us on our TS3, if you have questions.
We are a german PR community and can help you setting up PR properly (Settings, Controls, PR Mumble) and give you a fast tutorial.

It also wouldn't hurt to read the manual, if you haven't already. Takes only about 20 minutes and is available in German too, as far as I know??

Most important part. As long as you avoid Wicca at all costs you should be fine.

On a more serious note, welcome! As others have said, the best way to start out is to make sure you have a basic understanding of the game (the manual has a section on the basics that should teach you most of it) and then just hop in and try to find a good squad/squadleader. Good luck!

Honestly if you join a squad most people are very friendly and would be more than willing to help you out. This game has one of the nicer communites that I have come across. Definitely read the manual. That helps a lot. Download mumble. Start as a basic rifleman and get good at aiming.

Don't attempt to fly or operate heavy armor yet. You will be kicked from servers if you aren't good at it.

Best of luck to you.

get on mumble, join an infantry squad. He'll tell you where to spawn, and ask him what kit to get. If he's competent, tell hm youre new, and he should be able to help you out.
