The purpose of my thread is simple, and the title just about describes my purpose in and of itself.

I'd like to request a discussion thread with the devs, for an "eyes only" discussion. The topic I'd like to discuss is super secret, and with the devs. It's in relation to an idea I have, of something I'd like to share with you guys, in terms of a project I'm proposing for the mod. I'd like the wider PR community in general to not have any foreknowledge of the project I'm proposing, or the discussion once I get down to the "brass tacks" of what I'm proposing.

For that purpose, I'm not saying anything about it here. I would like to share with you here, prior to that discussion, that I was part of the Desert Conflict mod development and beta testing teams.

I was the one who was working on the Camel. It was ride-able once I was finished with it. With that said, maybe you would like to see some of my work.

Here is two short videos of the Camel in-game. The first one is the semi-finished product in-game.

The second video is prior to making the camel ridable, which features wreck models, jihad camel bomb moan "horn", and movable head (utilizing the tank tracks method for seamless neck/head movement". I also made the camel be able to spit.

no offense, but that looks horrible :D Not that I could do it myself, but if that is the argument to convince the DEVS, then it's a pretty poor one :D

IF you didnt want the PR community to have any knowledge of this then why post it? You should probbaly PM a Dev....

But why would DCON want a camel!??! it was based on the 1st gulf war wasnt it?

lol that camel creeped the hell out of me. I'd shit my pants if an insurgent would ride around a corner and head towards me with that beast. Looks funny, but you got to be honest...camelriding snackbar jihadis trying to spit you in the face kind of do not fit into PR :D

But I dont get why you did not just write a private message to one of the devs with your content and idea? This way it kind of seems that you only want to make yourself look important with that top secret l33t stuff you allegedly are hiding from us.

Quite seriously, the only responses I'm interested in are from the devs. And, what I'm proposing may or may not have anything to do with a camel. :)


I share the camel here only because this is my first post on the forums, in the PR community, and I'm trying to build credibility in terms of being able to mod. Just trying to point out that I'm not perpetrating that I can model, code, and build. That is all.

I really am seeking a serious discussion with the devs, so if anyone is trolling.... Sure isn't me son.

I thought about pm'ing a dev, but truth is, I wouldn't know who to start with. Also, I'm only interested in talking to someone who would have an open mind about talking to me, so....

Desert Conflict mod, is a BF2 mod, which is a re-creation of the classic BF1942 mod, Desert Combat.

In BF1942 DC, there is a map that has a camel on it, hidden in a shack. I spoke with the original creator of the Camel for 1942DC, and his original intentions were to make a ridable camel for the game. It was to be featured in DC Final, but never got included, because his computer was destroyed in a fire before he was finished with it. He lost his whole house as well in that same fire.

The camel is in-line with the intentions of DC final, as well as that of the BF2 Desert Conflict mod.

I sent the camel to the DCON devs, once it was finished (not shown in the videos), but they lost the archive before they added it to the game. They told me they put it in-game, but never did get around to putting it in the game. Several months later, after I had sold my development computer (I became a traveler, and needed a laptop instead), the dev's contacted me to see if I still had the development files. It was a sad sad day for me, because I no longer had the development files; I was giving it to the dev team under the misunderstanding that they were going to continue the development, refinement, testing, and implementation. It never happened that way, and never made it into the game.

So there's the story of the fate of the camel.

Yes, because the way BF2 vehicles are coded, it's impossible to do the animations of legs moving. Believe me, I spent many months trying to figure out how to manipulate Python to allow me to do this. BF2 can't do animations like this on vehicles, but BF 2142 can (go figure). Sadly, it just really isn't possible. I tried to bone attach the feet to the invisible wheels, but it just didn't look right, as the bone attach isn't a swivel, it's a hard fixture; this made the leg movements look very whack, like, imagine a fanblade.

So I made the camel have invisible wheels, and put him on a magic carpet so it would be mobile. The camel also had the ability to seat a second player facing backwards, and that player could use his weapons. The camel also shat out three mines (instead of flares), so if someone was following you, they'd hit a mine. The "rider" of the camel had the ability to move the head in the direction the driver was facing, so there was a small amount of flexibility in the direction both rider and camel could look.

Also, the spit was extremely low damage; like, 1 point of damage. It was the minimum amount I could code it as, to get your attention if you got hit with it. To put things into perspective, a BF2 vanilla player would have to get hit with about 20 of them from full health to die. Camels spit in real life, so that's why that was added.


But enough about the camel, as I've got bigger fish to fry.

FHSW mod for BF1942 has horses you can ride on and shoot off of, they are completely AWESOME.
