Well close air support is supporting infantry from the air, exactly what you described. For example an apache would find himself way away from infantry, killing armour pieces and such, with no infantry close at all. That's not CAS, it's air interdiction, which is what the Hind would not do. That's right, more or less. Though if you give the hind anti tank weapons, or enough rockets it would probably still be useful interdiction in PR
