Puma Model Outdated

Post by Zoddom »

I'm not sure if its already being worked on or if this is the wrong forum but the German Puma IFV Model is outdated. The latest version has 6 instead of 5 track rollers, larger side armor (covering parts of the rollers) and a barrel support structure on the cannon.

looking like this

Then make a new model yourself?

Well making a new model wouldn't be the best way about going about this since its just a small upgrade, would be much better off editing the existing one but pretty low priority. Is this new model the standard as well and do the older models still exist in service? To me it looks like an upgrade that isn't applied to all of them and only a select few but that's just guessing based off what most army vehicle small upgrades like this are like.

There is one thing about Puma and NaMer.
"The German Army operates 5 Pumas" (eng wiki)
"The IDF operates only 15 NaMers" (ru wiki)

So why in PR so rare vehicles? Why we dont have BMP2(6000 in operated only bu Russia), RU version of IVECO LMV(60 in servise) or GAZ-2330 (~450 operated, but both by army and police).

I suspect that is somewhat out of date too and they have more than 5 currently in service.

PR isn't set to an exact time (for most things other than PR:F, PR:V and some other maps). If it was we could have no battles with China, or Russia etc :p

Making the Marder instead of the Puma would have been counter productive as Germany is planning on retiring it in a few years, which would mean then we would have to throw that model and all the hard work and effort that went into making it, away.... Of course, it would be good to have but when weighing up which one to pick the choice for the long term is obvious.

There are many reasons why we have certain vehicles and not others but most of the time its because we haven't got the man power to make all the vehicles/weapons we want from scratch and we can only make the highest priority stuff, and work with what we can get our hands on from stock BF2 models and other mods willing to trade with us (like USI).

As for the Namer, it was quite a simple to make since we already had the Merkava, which the Namer is made from and it was just a matter of simply modifying the Merkava into a Namer which is far easier than making one from scratch. Dunno how many numbers are in use but I'm sure its more than 15 and/or more planned for the future. We also have the M113 ingame for the IDF as an APC too.

As far as I know, there aren?t any Pumas in service ATM, only 10 Pumas are in service for testing. My battalion was told we get the first Pumas 2015-2017.
Nobody will use the puma until then in a real battle.
To be honest the Marder would be the only realistic option for a german IFV.
We have still over 600 Marder (with more then 2000 build) and using them for 30 years now.

Edit: sry i was to lazy to read rhinos post first.
But i think it will be at last 2020-2025 until the first Pumas get into combat

Your info about the Namers is outdated, there are more than 15 in use. And if already then why merkava mk.4 anyway? Not only the model is inaccurate, there are more mk.3/2s and pattons than mk4. Same thing about the Namers.

the namer made sense since it's become more common and we had alot of the model ready since it's very much like the Merkava :)

the Puma wasn't so much chosen iirc as we had a guy who was making it, when we didn't have a more suitable asset ready

the BMP2 is being worked on, as per public announcements

the Ru do indeed lack a light vehicle, but generally their maps haven't needed it anyway

Russia could do with either the Gaz 2975 Tigr or, more realistically, an armed UAZ, but again they don't really need it.

I'm cool with PR being a bit futuristic and having gear that is only just coming into service portrayed, especially when it's obvious that that gear is a guaranteed acquisition (like the Puma).

There is only one version of the Puma, it's the one with the barrel support structure and the 6 wheels.
All other version were prototypes, and only the above mentioned version is used in the Bundeswehr.
The Puma is currently getting integrated in the Bundeswehr, the plan includes 350 IFV's (once 405).
The process should be finished in 10 years from now on.
