Has someone made any progress on the overlay problem yet?

Allright..

FOR THOSE HAVING THE PROBLEM WITH THE "HUD" DISAPPEARING WHEN ALT+TAB'ing, I FOUND A FIX!

When you ALT+TAB and are done doing your thing and get back to the game, the HUD should be gone, but no worries, while in the game, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and open the task manager, it should jump straight back into the game and HUD should be there again.

Works like a sharm for me, was about to give up!

I have found this thread from here: Mumble / Bugs / #837 Overlay does not work for me. (windows 8).
The overlay won't work, under any circumstances, if you have a 64-bit JVM - so that's the most likely culprit, and in that case it's not a bug. You can downgrade to a 32-bit JVM at the expense of some performance/stability in big worlds in Minecraft, but that's about it. :(
At this stage, unless someone from the Minecraft community who is exceptionally good at ASM and C++ comes forward to write and maintain a 64-bit overlay and loader, there's no immediate (that I'm aware of) plans to have 64-bit support for the overlay. Minecraft is still pretty much the only time gamers use 64-bit for right now, and it's going to take some serious 64-bit support before it becomes worth the trouble.
So I think it might be useful and worth a try. Since I don't have Windows 8 installed anymore, could someone of you try it out who has Windows 8 installed.

andreas,

This will not work for PR as PR is not a java application (unlike Minecraft).
The above is a java-applet issue only. This also applies to Win 7 x64 with an x64 JRE/JDK (assuming it will apply to Win XP x64 too in that constellation).

Is PRMumble 1.0 overlay working in Windows8?!?!

e: I run both PRMumble and PR in Windows 7 compability mode and as admin. Tried several combinations and XP compability mode. No success :/

temexter, you want to do the leg work for this?
You need to download regular mumble 1.2.4 Beta1 or newer,
http://mumble.info/snapshot/mumble-1.2. ... 0599b8.msi

and do the following:
Overlay not showing in Windows 8/Windows Server 2012.

There seems to be an issue with how Mumble injects the overlay in Windows 8/Windows Server 2012. To get the Overlay to work properly just add -nod3d9ex to your Mumble shortcut. ** This workaround seems to be working with Mumble 1.2.4-beta1-4-g90599b8

http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Mumble#Ov ... erver_2012.
Close PRMumble (and any other mumble instances)
Download and install, 1.2.4Beta1.
Open 1.2.4Beta1
Download the BF2 plugin, or any plugin for any game you have that has a mumble plugin.
COnfigure overlay to on.
Connect to vanilla BF2 mumble server.
Connect to vanilla BF@ online multiplayer server.
See if mumble1.2.4B1 and or BF2, (or some other game you try this with, ) crashes or not.

I have tried earlier with latest Mumble snapshot (as my clan uses it).

I tried all games I have installed: vBF2, PR, ArmA2 OA, WoP, M&B Warband + cRPG and PS2.

I ran all DX9 games in XP and W7 compability mode and as Admin.

Both vanilla Mumble and PRMumble were ran as Admin and in XP and W7 compability mode.

Summa summarum: no Mumble overlay.

Just for reference: MSI Afterburner worked with all combinations except in XP compability mode (nor naturally did DX10 and DX11 games :D

Also have the Mumble overlay issue with PR. I tried it out with a few other games, also. It worked while loading ArmA2 and then died, did not work at all with Fallout: New Vegas, but strangely seemed to work with Company Of Heroes.

I've upgraded to Windows 8 and the first time I launched PR it worked fine except my overlay was missing despite running it in administrator and launching Mumble first like I always do; everyone in-game could hear me, but only my overlay was missing. I got kicked by PB a few minutes later for something I have never seen before and decided to exit the game. When I decided to get back on later PR loaded up, went to a black screen, and then proceeded to CTD immediately every single time I tried to play it. I have uninstalled .97 and am just gonna wait for 1.0 at this point

btw I can play vbf2 online without any problems at all

Hi, Tried 6.5 on this page? Mumble - UniWiki

Set a parameter to get the overlay working. Not able to try myself, but report back the result after trying, thanks!

Springo, welcome to the forums!!

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention, let's get some people to try this out:

There seems to be an issue with how Mumble injects the overlay in Windows 8/Windows Server 2012. To get the Overlay to work properly just add -nod3d9ex to your Mumble shortcut.

** This workaround seems to be working with Mumble 1.2.4-beta1-4-g90599b8 Litoralis Note: Don't install this it will not work as a replacement for PRMumble 1.0.0.4Beta . PRMumble uses mumble 1.2.0 as the base, we need to see if this command line switch is compatible with 1.2.0 .

Recommend using compatibility mode and running the game as an admin on 8 for stability reasons.

I see people still trying this. Good deal. I'm going re-install windows 8 and fiddle with this again tomorrow. Just spent an entire week configuring an android tablet especially for family member with advanced Parkinson disease.. success. need a change of pace and want to help kill this mumble overlay dragon!! I'll report back what happens.

EDIT: I spent the day fooling around with clean install of Windows 8 and PR Mumble version. Tried all sorts of things. The only thing I can surmise is that the reason it worked through two games when I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 last month was because some files (perhaps .dll's that Litoralis is referring to) got overwritten before a reboot. If it were possible to reapply files from Windows 7 then maybe we got a fix. I conclude it's like Litoralis said.. Windows problem.

Really hoped I could get this working. Back to Windows 7..
