A few issues with mumble.

Post by Robinmpp »

Initially, mumble would start fine with my game, Windows 7, x64, and it would run fine, but upon joining some servers I'd get kicked out of the mumble instantly, as if there was an error moving me to the proper channels. I didn't have overlay enabled, so I tried enabling the overlay, which crashes my game, even when the game and mumble are ran as an administrator. So, the mumble overlay doesn't work with my game, crashing on startup, or as soon as it tries to 'hook' the process (PR crashes when I start mumble), and when I join a server, if I'm in mumble with no overlay, it'll kick me straight out of the mumble server with no message. I followed the guides, installed custom overlays (river's), but no such luck. I'm mainly confused as to why I'm being kicked from the mumble server as soon as I join a server.

Happy holidays Robinmpp,

welcome to the PR forums,

Please give us your system specs.

Please tell us if you are running any other overlays.

What version of BF2 do you own? Steam, EA Origin, Retail DVD, etc.

Are you using a windows user account with administrative privileges?

Did you install PRmumble 1.0.0.Beta4 using an administrator account?

Have you manually updated punkbuster?

I have updated punkbuster, running the game+mumble as an administrator. I have the game on steam, however I disabled steam ingame and have no other overlays running. My current account is the administrator account on the system. I have worked through the crashing issue mostly, by disabling the overlay entirely, but I'm still being kicked from the mumble half the time when joining the [CIA] Kokan server.

My system specs:

Operating System
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i7 @ 2.30GHz 53 ?C
Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
RAM
16.0 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-2 8)
Motherboard
CLEVO P15xEMx (SOCKET 0)
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1920x1080@59Hz)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M
Hard Drives
466GB Seagate ST95005620AS (SATA) 33 ?C
Optical Drives
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SN-208AB
DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

EDIT:

Also, I've reinstalled mumble/pr completely, but it doesn't seem to work.

If I start mumble first, PR doesn't load, and instead locks up as soon as I boot it, and if I start PR first, sometimes mumble will load correctly -- However the overlay won't show up, and I'll be kicked from the mumble when I join a team on a server because the overlay isn't enabled.

Troubleshooting further, I can get mumble to work on some different servers, like ]H[ and such, but not on CIA. I've never used the mumble on that server, so having a mumble channel ban seems really unlikely. In any case, now that I have mumble working properly, the last thing I need to sort out would be the overlay. While I have it enabled, it does not show up at all when I load mumble after loading PR. Any way to sort this out? Again, if I launch mumble /before/ PR, it crashes PR.

Have not before seen the one problem you are having with being kicked off the PRMumble server instantly upon connecting to a PR BF2 server.

Try creating a non-steam shortcut inside steam for the pr.exe application ( in your battlefiels2/mods/pr/ ) directory.

shutdown steam.
Restart steam as an admin.
start prmumble as admin.
run the pr.exe steam shortcut.

you can try to rename your current bf2.exe to bf2.exe.bak,
download the retail bf2.exe application in above link and place in battlefield2 directory.
set it to run as admin,

I tried replacing the BF2.exe with the non-steam retail exe, but the game still crashes on startup when I have mumble running. Am I supposed to launch mumble when I'm in a server? If I do that, I'm automatically kicked from the mumble server. And if I try to launch mumble when I'm at the main menu, the overlay won't work.

Oh, so mumble is working now, if I launch it from the main menu. The issue is, the overlay still isn't showing up. I'm playing in windowed mode, Win7, no aero, so. At least I got mumble working, though! The non-steam .exe seems to work great, so I'll continue to use that. I'm sure there have been other threads on the topic of the overlay not working, so I'll sort that out and post again if it still doesn't work.
