Can i run it?
Hi,
I used to play PR on my old desktop with 2GB where i would get around 15 - 35 fps. A while ago i replaced it for a laptop and i guessed PR should be able to run smoother on it since my desktop was pretty outdated and so is BF2.
I checked the can i run it site to see if i would be able to run BF2. But it told me i was under the minium requirements, i thought this was odd but bad luck right.
But now i checked on some other games and it tells me i dont meet the minimum requirements for nearly every game. This is odd since i have installed some games wich it said i would not be able to run but they work just fine.
So i was wondering if anyone could help me with this, i have an ASUS F501A i guess all specs should be on here ASUS F501A-XX118V [F501A-XX118V]: specificaties, reviews, aanbiedingen en meer | Hardware.Info Nederland
If anyone could help me with this i would be very thankfull since i dont know alot about computer specs and i dont want to bother installing everything to find out it doesnt work since its quite a lot. I dont have to play on all high, if i would be able to get 20-25fps on low that would be just fine.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Can i run it?
Just like to point out that an i3 + HD3000 combo is not enough to play PR. It runs, but is not playable by anyone's standards (except falklands and Kashan).
Sorry mate.

Re: Can i run it?
So i guess the specs are worse for PR then my old desktop wich were:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
2048MB RAM
2,2GHZ
ATI Radeon HD 4550
Win XP 32bit

Re: Can i run it?
For daily use applications the ATI Radeon HD 4550 is equivalent to the HD3000, but for gaming the HD 4550 is far superior.

Re: Can i run it?
Ye PR used to run fine on my desktop, i only seemed to miss enough GB for a decent FPS rate.
But you are certain there is no way for me to play PR with this specs? Because thats rather depressing, knowing i will never be able to play the best FPS i ever had

Re: Can i run it?
So yes you can play, but you will encounter these problems stated above.'[R-CON wrote:Psyrus;1620839']I have done some stress testing of PR with the HD3000 IGP and I can tell you that even @ 800x600, all settings minimum (0xAA etc) that on the majority of the maps you won't be breaking more than 30fps, and on the "fps killer" maps, it struggles above 10-15fps. Basically, Korengal, big chunks of Ramiel, Fallujah, Fool's Road, Asad Khal, Beirut, Gaza, Karbala, Lashkar and Muttrah were unplayable, even just as a medic.
Lots of Archer, Kashan, Al Basrah were fine, but also had sub 20fps moments.
Haven't had an opportunity to FPS test any of the other maps.
In short, buy a super cheap laptop and save up & build yourself a gaming desktop because the HD3000 is not sufficient for PR.
I occasionally try playing on a i3-2310m with HD3000. The processor can handle PR just fine, but you get huge dips of bottleneck due to the shared memory constraints. So you'll be playing at 20-40fps, and then suddenly for 10-15 seconds it'll dive to sub-15fps, making it unplayable for the duration, and then return to regular FPS.
I do not regard the HD3000 as playable due to the memory allocation [VRAM] issues.

Re: Can i run it?
Thats sounds like what i got with my old desktop. around 20 - 30 FPS average, 40 on top (kashan etc) and 10 - 15 on maps like gaza and lashkar (unplayable indeed). Muttrah used to be around 18/19 fps. For me that was playable but when below 15 it started stuttering wich was unplayable.
When asking on the forums people told me it was because of my memory. So do you think it will perform worse then on my old desktop? If it would be the same as my desktop and i will have 20 fps avarage, well its not ideal but ill take it since its what im used to anyway.
What about gamebooster? Will it help me? Because it dident for my desktop. And what about 1.00, i believe i read somewhere you will be able to reach more fps once that comes out?

Re: Can i run it?
Yes, use gamebooster.
Install a 64 bit versoin of windows.
and use #4 below :
As for increasing your fps, we have some common solutions,
delete the shaders cache in your c:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache folder
then
1. defrag your hard drive. the PR and addons installers tend to get fragmented, which slows down read/writes and slows down fps.
2. Download and install IOBit Gamebooster3.
3. Download Bitsum ProcessLasso Free.
-- Start PR, alt tab to desktop, open ProcessLAsso window, right click on PR.exe, TR.exe, BF2.exe, PRMumble.exe and pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrB/exe and give them default priority status of High, set the Tr PR and BF2 to gaming mode, and give them higher access to RAM.
4. Determine which OS you have, and if it is 32 bit or 64 bit. Once you are 100% certain you know , follow this guide for your OS:

Re: Can i run it?
Ok so ive installed PR and it actually runs pretty well!
I get around 35 - 45 FPS average and the absolut low i get on some maps is 24-28. All in all its around 10 FPS more then i had on my desktop, i have even set most settings to medium.

Re: Can i run it?
I find that extremely odd as I'm running nearly identical specs to you and just came off a game of PR which had many dips to the unplayable <15 fps range. I have no issues on more open maps like Kashan as mentioned above, with FPS around 30.heldro wrote:Ok so ive installed PR and it actually runs pretty well!

Which maps did you play, if I might ask?
Edit: I just looked into it.... It seems that not all HD3000 IGPs are created equal.
The HD3000 of the second gen intel chips can dynamically ramp up their clock speeds considerably compared to mine.
i3 380M [link]:
Graphics Base Frequency 500 MHz
Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency 667 MHz
i3 2370m [link]:
Graphics Base Frequency 650 MHz
Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency 1150 MHz
Would account for the different experiences. Bloody intel keeping the same naming scheme for something that is significantly different.

Re: Can i run it?
On 1024x768 all med the lowest FPS on maps like muttrah, fallujah west & korengal is around 22 but constant around 30.
On maps with lots of open terrain its around 60-70.

If you push your resolution to your screen's native resolution ( 1366x768 ) is it the same performance?heldro wrote:On 1024x768 all med the lowest FPS on maps like muttrah, fallujah west & korengal is around 22 but constant around 30.

Korengal for me, is completely impossible. I don't think it like ever goes over 18fps unless I look off the edge of the map.

Re: Can i run it?
Ill try tomorrow, I changed from 800x640 to 1024x768 today and i did not notice any difference with that.[R-CON]Psyrus wrote:If you push your resolution to your screen's native resolution ( 1366x768 ) is it the same performance?
