PR after BF2:PR 1.0

Post by brezmans »

I was just browsing through the arma-section of the PR mod and I saw this post by [R-Dev]Epoch:

[R-DEV]Epoch wrote:Our number one priority is to produce a stable and efficient code base upon which to develop the mod going forward. This is particularly important as we anticipate ARMA3, which clearly will be the logical development path for Project Reality.(OP)

I was wondering whether this statement was meant for the future of PR:Arma or for PR in general. Since bf2 is now 7.5 years old and the playerbase probably won't grow much bigger even with the release of 1.0 (it will grow, but not to the numbers of 3-4 years ago), I understand that at some point a major shift or unavoidable death is inevitable. Attracting new players is not easy, as you can see from the many other threads on this section of the forums.

So I wanted to ask whether there were any plans concerning the future of PR that the devs wanted to share with us. Also, was the quote from Epoch above taken out of context and only meant for the arma-version of PR?

IIRC A2 :P R devteam is a different team than the one working on BF2 :P R so it might be only for Arma. I think The community won't grow much but the gameplay and feeling of PR is still very unique, so as long as there is no decent counterpart to it, people will play BF2 :P R. The only problem being the engine limitations, the graphics really aren't that bad plus vintage looking games seems to be "in" those days (minecraft?) :D

Pretty much. There are a few devs who do work on both platforms but most of the devs either work on one or the other as the skillets are not easily interchangeable.

That post is really only related to PR:ARMA2, hence why its in the ARMA2 forums.

As far as I, and many other PR:BF2 Devs are concerned, we are not going to stop working on PR:BF2 after v1.0 is released. PR:BF2 still has a lot of life left in her and I know there is much the team still wants to do and the foundation we have been working on can't easily be recreated on any new platform (that's keeping in mind more than just the gameplay, talking content here too) without a hell of a lot of work over a long period of time, so for the foreseeable future, most of us are sticking with it as we have been for the past 7 years ;)

Anyways going to close this topic since otherwise this will just become a topic to replying to epochs topic, which if he wanted that he would have left it open.
