You have explained it in a sole sentence.

Also, if you are so sick of maps that make you go to sleep instead of keep playing, why not make some suggestions on how they SHOULD be?
Im not sick of them, i just said that if its 2 am, those bad maps will make me go to sleep and those i like will make me stay for just that one round.

And, if i go out and actually voice my opinion on what/how should be changed, id get the standard answer of "do it yourself, smartass", do i dont even bother. If id have the will to learn mapping, id make my maps in the quality/style i like... maybe someday.

It's so overplayed and everything has been done to death on this god damned map that I prefer to quit and draw selection boxes on the desktop rather than play it.

It's always the exact same thing over and over, don't get how people like it so much. There's literally no round that's different.

Closest thing to a true city map PR has. It is overplayed but anybody who argues it isn't well made is crazy.

Kashan. Now that's an overplayed map that isn't particularly well made.

I think this might coincide with requires less thought hypothesis. Everyone needs to take it easy every once in a while right?

Cities, and forests make you think a lot, and they make CAS operation much more challenging too. Kashan's not that linear, but it still remains the least challenging map to operate armour, and CAS vehicles on.

Yamalia's simple too, but I think Yamalia is played less because CAS users prefer something with CAS vehicles, and forests are tough on armour operators.

Don't you deny how fun drawing selection boxes is

As far as I recall, people only say "Do it yourself" when someone asks for some completely new and not so useful feature.

I think it's so popular because one can hop in quite easily anytime in the round, like in a skirmish map. Nevertheless, it is played way too often imo.

I have to agree with Wicca and 40mmrain: It's a very narrow, concentrated map. You always have a more or less clear front line and that makes it a very intense map.

And it's always rewarding to set it as next map if your server is dying because urban maps are best for lone wolves and small squads. For woodland and desert maps it's quite hard to win for public players without some clanmates, because you need much more coordination and teamwork.

But personally, I still love Muttrah. There was a time when I was fed up with this map, but it is just a really, really well designed map and deserves to be popular.

Thank you Nate for getting it! I loved the Photo so awesome!

I remember when PRTA ran the 128 test server on Muttrah. I joined one round and at East/West road which should be called North/West Road, had 30-40 players literally shooting into West city or into North at each other. It was so amazing. Except I couldn't sneak past anyone like with 64 players

The special thing about muttrah is that it has APCs, mortars, CAS and Trans, just like a normal AAS map, but if you are not interested in teamworking, you can still take a kit and lonewolf while waiting for your APC/whatever to respawn or for the map to change. Only other maps that allow this are skirmish maps but those are small and don't allow teamwork/assets, the other maps like this are insurgency maps but only on insurgency side, which doesen't have assets and require a lot less teamwork than normal AAS maps. That is why this map is so popular, aspecially when the server is seeding.

Muttrah/Jabal/Kashan are the main reason I stopped playing PR (not definitely *insert famous Terminator quote here*).
I felt like I was playing one of those 70 to 80% of time until I couldn't stand it anymore.
Many thanks to everyone involved in the making of the best videogaming experience ever !

i personally find it a very bad map for infantry. my opinion on why it's so popular is cause there are still lots of people with the "Urban Combat" craze and the "CQB is badass" mindset. To keep it short, it's cool. as someone else said before as well, Muttrah is the only entirely urban map for AAS.

forget overplayed, the map itself is simply boring. It CAN easily be amazing if you just add a few things and open up a few areas, but as it is it's disappointing for anything outside of CQC or asset whoring.

If you're interested in my opinion of Muttrah:

It' has a great urban setting with lots of opportunity for close quarters fighting, however the streets themselves are barren. The city itself has no life, and while fighting through buildings on this map is awesome, to fight anywhere outdoors is a pain in the ***. Even the rooms in every building seem barren. There is very little cover apart form the buildings themselves. The city's layout does not allow for particularly dynamic battles either, in certain parts there would only be 2 paths of advance. Other urban maps are more enjoyable for me as the streets are more connected and allow for maneuvering while Muttrah has many long and locked in corridors and isolated pockets.

speaking strictly of ambience, EVERYTHING IS THE SAME COLOR! EVERYTHING IS CLEAN! look at other maps with urban environments in PR, they're alive with varying colors and shades and filth.

all in all Muttrah is a map that appeals to those that really should be playing other games, not that they shouldn't play PR i just think they'd enjoy other games better. They enjoy close quarters fast paced combat with mostly twitch shooting, they enjoy being funneled by the environment into repetitive fights over a bottleneck, and they enjoy falling into a game routine or cycle.

Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.
