American Infantry platoons were issued 1 Springfield rifle with scope, to be issued to the best rifleman. Sometimes there was some extra trainings, mostly not.[R-DEV]AfterDune wrote:Marksman class didn't exist until somewhere after the Vietnam war, so we made the marksman more of a recon kit.

Interesting. What was this guy called?
Still, it's one Springfield per platoon, pretty much the amount of snipers per team in PR.

I don't know what the correct term was or if there was one.

Doing some research I found an operational manual of the American army WWII, this is the manual FM 21-75, published in Feb - 06-1944
From page # 169 they begin to explain how it was identified a potential sniper, they called expert rifleman and how they operated in WWII.
FM21 75 Scouting Patrolling and Sniping 1944
Ts4ever he is correct in your statements.

This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning

In a US rifle squad during ww2 the best shooter was issued a springfield with a sniper scope and one with a BAR and the rest with m1 garands.

Only every third rifle squad had a sniper rifle. However, every squad had a BAR and a rifle grenade launcher.DavviZ wrote:In a US rifle squad during ww2 the best shooter was issued a springfield with a sniper scope and one with a BAR and the rest with m1 garands.

I still think that the ships should be facing the beach with landing crafts on both sides. Blue is ladders. Green is landing craft. Red is the ship.
