CTDs and invisible objects

Post by victor_phx »

On three maps, the three only, I'm now experiencing the following (when I'm able to load them without CTDing):

Frame rate goes all the way down and I'll finally crash to desktop after a while.

I've tried changing drivers, reinstalling PR; but Black Gold, Shijia Valley and Iron Eagle are pretty much unplayable to me.

I have hardware capable of recording videos and playing the game quite smoothly in any resolution imaginable, but this problem afflicts me. I'm now running the latest Catalyst drivers, by the way.

Any suggestion would be of great help!

Go to \Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache and delete the directories with the very long names.

start vanilla BF2, join a server,
shutdown BF2

Start PR, join online server,
you should be fixed.

I tried doing that, and waited a while before I'd reply in this thread, just to be sure.

But even though it fixed invisible buildings in Iron Eagle (after repeating the process of deleting the cache several times), I now can't even load Black Gold.

Some other weird things happen sometimes, too. I've seen red APCs, invisible supply crates and glitched weapon sights that would freeze the screen when I pressed the aim button. It's all fixed by deleting the cache once again.

But Black Gold... maybe some other map? Can't play :(

Does vanilla BF2 work correctly?
Are any other games glitching?
DO you have any other Directx9c games you can test?

Can give you some suggestions, but not easy for anyone to diagnosis this kind of h/w failure without sitting in front of PC.

My best guess on the info you provided, your have installed drivers on top of each other and have fragments of old drivers interacting with your new drivers.
Try using driverfusion by treexy Driver Fusion - Driver Fusion - The Complete Driver Solution to COMPLETELY uninstall and remove your GPU drivers.
Then use CCleaner or similar to further delete any leftover crumbs from GPU drivers.
reboot.
download and reinstall your drivers.
reboot.
test.

Defrag your partition with PR installed, could be highly fragmented .zip files that contain the textures?

The errors you are encountering are really random, ... I have never heard of anyone getting red textures on vehicles before.

Vanilla seems to be working fine, other PR maps were running great too. And other games are super smooth: Max Payne 3, Crysis 2, Assassin's Creed III and such. Temperatures are always fine, as well!

And I had tried this a few times before, but after setting everything on the Video settings to Low, as Low as it can be, I was then able to play Shijia Valley (which was one of the unplayable maps before) quite smoothly this time.

I'll test Black Gold later. I may feel content with at least being able to play those maps in these Low settings!

I'll defrag my disk so I can try running in High again. That and Driver Fusion, thanks for the tip. I already even updated Java, video drivers, audio drivers...

Thank you for helping, once again

Well, I should ask,
What OS? XP, Vista, 7, 8 ?
32 Bit or 64 Bit?
How much RAM installed?

Depending on how you answer the above questions, this might help you significantly:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... b-ram.html

You might also want to try ProcessLasso to automatically give BF2.exe , PR.exe, TR.exe "High Priority" on CPU threading.
Download Bitsum ProcessLasso Free. Make sure you download the correct version, Free 32 bit or Free 64 bit, Process Lasso - Automate and optimize priorities, CPU affinities, power profiles, and much more!
-- Start PR, alt tab to desktop, open ProcessLAsso window, right click on PR.exe, TR.exe, BF2.exe, PRMumble.exe and pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrB.exe and give them default priority status of High, set the Tr PR and BF2 to gaming mode, and give them high or higher access to RAM.
If you run Vista or newer OS, yuo might also try unparking your processor, which isn't usually a solution for PR and BF2 problems, but might help in your case.
Disable CPU Core Parking Real-Time - No Reboot
Be aware that this alters your Power Management settings, and I highly suggest you search online for tutorials and FAQ on this before doing so, it can affect your other programs in various ways.
