[Help]How to install win7 without disc?

Post by Ason »

Hello, I bought a laptop about a year ago and I didn't make the backup of windows which it always tell me to do on startup so now that I used it for more than a year I guess it's pointless to make the backup CD since I now got alot of stuff on it, so it's no longer in "fabric-mode".
So i got a new legit Win7 copy, the problem is it was a download version so I got the files in a .zip file on my computer.
My question is if someone could tell me how to proceed? Do i have to burn the files to a new disc or is there a way of doing a recovery with the files still in my computer?
I extracted the .Zip file and I got some files inside including a setup file. I'm at work atm but I can post a image of the files when I get home.

Honestly, you would be better off torrenting a Windows 7 disc and using the CD key on the sticker of your laptop.

Look for an .iso file, it usually looks like a cd on a piece of paper. Click on it, insert a blank DVD, burn it to the DVD, and then put it in your computer, reboot, and boot it off the cd.

Follow the instructions to install Win 7.

Remember you'll need the correct version of Windows - i.e; don't go trying to install ultimate if you only had Windows Home

Reason: do they still do OEM versions?

What are you trying to do?
Fresh install?
upgrade in place?

What exactly did you buy?
Retail 7 Pro
OEM 7 Pro
Retail 7 Pro Upgrade
?

Windows 7 upgrade matrix:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/windows-7 ... st-matrix/

You had a free option as mentioned above:

THIS WILL COMPLETELY REFORMAT YOUR OS DRIVE, back up your important documentss, installation files, etc, and
especially the Grozny map files.

NOTE you might lose utlities specific to your notebook, like the extra buttons, you have to redownload those drivers/programs

This is for a COMPLETE WIPE AND FRESH INSTALL:

Download the Windows 7 Home premium OEM DVD .iso from a torrent.
Burn the .iso to DVD or copy to USB thumbdrive if your motherboard BIOS supports booting from USB.
Download a Windows License Key Recovery program, such as this: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
Write down your Product ID and license Key.
Put DVD in drive.
Reboot
Start BIOS, select boot from USB as first priority.
Save BIOS change, continue boot
Follow general direciotns for installing windows 7, using your product key when prompted.

Ok I will try to explain my problem;
I have been playing PR for about 1,5 years now, and on my laptop I have always been kicked from servers because of MD5 mismatch errors(Usually dbg.help and mod.archive error) and sometimes it just CTD, this week it got alot worse for some reason, I kept getting kicked from servers every 5-20 minutes and it was getting unplayable, so i thought i would reinstall BF2, I have reinstalled it about 5-6 times already so this time I tried to look up how to remove EVERYTHING, because I didn't want to have small corrupted/ing files laying around which would cause the same errors in the future, so i deleted folders in the registry, ( some of the folders deleted were: DICE, EA Games, Electronic Arts, and EA games folders inside the wownode### folder), after doing this I put in the CD and it let me choose language and which expansions I wanted etc, when it then started the install my cd-driver made some noise and it the ended with a message saying "the wizard was interrupted before bf2 could be installed your system has not been modified".

So after trying these things for 2 days it still doesn't work:
-changing compatability mode on the setup file on the CD and runnign as administrator
-downloading registry cleaner (Free windows registry repair and TweakNow power pack 2012)
-searching everywhere for a solution, alot of people having the same problem but nobody got a solution anywhere
-directly running the setup in the CD
-and some other small things like changing the letters on my cd-driver etc.

So now I have to give up and reinstall windows, but I didn't get a recovery cd to my laptop which makes me insanely mad since I'm not that good at computers, so now I need to know how I can reinstall the windows.

Btw Before buying the game I downloaded a fake version of BF2 to play with at the beginning, and I'm suspecting some files since then are causing all errors and CTD so I think it's just best to install windows again.

And yes I have transfered my Grozny map folder to another computer :)

Thanks for the detailed description on how to do it, but it sounds very complicated and I'm sure I will fuck up what can be fucked up :P so I think I will just pay some local computer company to do it for me, unless you got an idea of what might be causing the install error?

EDIT: When I press Easy info after inserting the BF2 CD this is what I get:

Heh,

I've been doing this a long time, I tend to forget how many steps are involved.

Are you sure your notebook doesn't have a hidden partition that is a restoration partition?

What version of BF2 do you own? The legit one.
BF2 CD
BF2 DVD
BF2 plus SF DVD
etc.

Are you sure your DVD drive works?

----------------------

Let's start over.

You have a legit Windows 7 Home Premium OEM Product Key.

You want to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium OEM version. ( English Language I assume? )

You can download the Windows 7 Home Premium OEM .ISO from here:
Dell Community

I suggest downloading this one:
• Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) - X17-58997

On that same page scroll to bottom and follow directions as stated, click on this picture:
http://en.community.dell.com/cfs-file.a ... titled.png

you have to burn the .iso to DVD
Microsoft provides a free automated software tool for this:
Microsoft Store Online

When you have burned your .ISO to DVD, you are now done with the hard part.

--------------

What is the manufacturer and model number of your notebook?

On your other PC, Find the drivers/utilities downlaod page on the notebook manufacturer's website,
download all the stuff relevant, such as audio drivers, video drives, shortcut keys for volume up/down, screen brightness up/down, etc.
-----------------------------------------

Copy any and all documents/pictures/etc from notebook to other PC, back up your files now. Don;t forget to backup your web browser bookmarks and auto log in information.

Copy installation files, such as the PR 0.973 installers, and 0.981 upgrade patch, to your other PC.
-----------------------------------------

Put DVD in notebook,
reboot notebook.
Go into BIOS , select Boot from BIOS,
save BIOS change, boot

install Windows 7.
install manufacturer drivers/utilities
reinstall BF2/PR
copy over your browser bookmarks etc.

that is the long and short of it.

1. Are you sure your notebook doesn't have a hidden partition that is a restoration partition?
When I go into computermanagement and Diskmanagement, I can see 3 diffrent types, [DATA(D: ) (Logic unit)], [OS(C: ) (system, systemstart etc)] and one which doesn't have a name which has 25 GB and it also says it's the primary partition. And the one without name I can't see when I'm in "This Computer" So I guess that is the hidden one?

2.What version of BF2 do you own?
I got the complete collection DVD-Rom (only dvd compatible) 1 disc only

3.Are you sure your DVD drive works?
I guess so since it lets me choose language and what type of expansions I want to include in the installation, I also tried putting in a CD with music and it worked.

4.What is the manufacturer and model number of your notebook?
ASUS
Model: X53T
Also it says on the sticker on the bottom
Windows 7 Home prem OA

Swedish language btw, but I don't think it's a problem if I get English in the future, but if it's possible to get swedish that would be nice :)

Thanks again for the description, I think I will give it a try.
I got a empty CD which has the name:
DVD +R
data/video
1-4x
4,7 GB single sided
do you think I can burn windows to this one?
