Maybe a crazy suggestion....

Post by Spartan »

Well, I was thinking about the role medics play in this game, especially considering some of the good ideas that have already appeared on these forums (stretchered back to base etc.). The flaw that most of these ideas have is that there is no real need to be healed if you can just wait for a certain amount of time and magically re-appear.

So, what if there were no respawns? If you don't die straight away; you lie there "critically injured" for a while. A medic can bring you back, but you'll have little to no health, and will still more than likely be taking incoming fire (not ideal), alternately, a squad can lay down covering fire just long enough that you can be bundled into the back of a vehicle and driven back to safety, where you can be fully healed.

Obviously this sounds a little bit extreme, and god knows there are few things more boring than watching a whole match because you caught a stray bullet a few seconds in...but...well, i think that will make people *very* careful about what they are doing, will put a huge focus on teamwork (rambos will quickly find themselves sitting on the sidelines watching the fight) and will make non flag-capturing roles (i'm mainly thinking sniper here) far more important as suddenly killing people actually means something. A sniper might not be able to capture a flag and hold it effectively, but if one man can take out a soldier and then the medic team that would have healed him...well....suddenly that man becomes worth his weight in gold..

I know I've explained this terribly, but....does anyone else think this is a good idea?

So, basically what you want is longer respawn times when you get killed? I do believe that is adjustable by the server admin...but I do agree with your theory, sounds good. I've often experienced being killed and then being revived when I'm low on ammo, and I rather would have respawned on the next base...

I believe this would require the cooperation of server admins to max the spawn times.

I was a hugeeeeee SOCOM fan. Rounds lasted 5-20min sometimes, and it does get boring when you keep dying. But it stressed the need for teamwork and tatics. I absolutly loved it.

Maybe this can be included as a game type, along with "protect the commander"...
I don't know if its possible, but in that game type, all those conditions apply. That way if people want to have it that realistic, its just a click of a button.
I would really love to see a team of medics be able to pick some guy up on a stretcher, put him in the back of humvee and drive him back to base. That'd be alot of fun, imo.

same thing for AA. dying=out for the whole round. (usually rounds last 7-10 min)

"So, what if there were no respawns?"

That wouldnt work if the medics got killed as your team would not be able to respawn ever and then it would turn it in to "last team standing" kind of game. :?

ok no respawns would destroy gameplay nobody wants to play the first 5 minutes of the round and then when all but one person is dead,
the second round everyone would run and hide and try and waite it out til everyone else is dead then theyd try and be the last one alive rounds would last like 2 or 3 minutes a piece

it would KILL GAMEPLAY

Won't work in BF. Without respawns it would become a nightmare. I've seen maps go for an hour +. And not everyone can be criticaly wounded, if you take a bullet to the brain you're done.

The medic will be important because he will keep your squad together. PR is bound to remove spawning at a squad leader, so it will be up to the medic to keep your squad funcioning under fire. Once you lose a man he's lost, for a while at least.

haha i shudder at the thought of being killed for an entire round of battlefield!
i think that longer respaws are a shaky idea, no one wants to sit there, plus it would slow down the battle. yes it would stress teamwork but i think that the realism and 1 hit kill ability will do that anyways.

No respawn doesn't work for BF. Something like a minute and 30 seconds or 2 minute spawn would work great.

I like this idea (i dunno if its new or not), it would be made much better if we had the ability to carry teammates bodies, then get them to a safe medical area and fix them

Also, couple this with my 'lives' idea. you start out with say 2 lives. You get a life every time your score goes up by some amount, you lose one when you have to respawn. This way, you are forced to be a good player, but you can respawn, so that the battle can continue, and not turn into the last 10 minutes of every AA game, 1 guy camping, and one guy moving really really slowly...

idea: maybe each medic (or one special kind of medic) can (like a mortar) set up a field hospital, that is basically a stretcher with an IV, that you can put an incapacitated teammate on, and it slowly revives them.

Dragging/moving bodies has been discussed, it'd be nice if it could be done. The stretcher thing sounds good, but maybe with a different twist. Reviving teamates would still be done with a defribulator, but isntead of going from almost dead to 100% they'd come back with half a bar of health. Then you could only get health back from this med station, very slowly of course.

i disagree with long respawns, i play games to actually play them, not stare at my corpse for a long period of time. thats why i like games like dod or bf because they dont make you sit there and watch the action the way socom or cs do. as for lives, no one would play if they get killed twice and cant play for the rest of the hour or so game, waiting 2 minutes is one thing, waiting a round is overkill. i think that the way respawns should work is that they vary by situation, maybe theres and air strip or train station where troops can spawn, and if those are destroyed then the respawn is longer. this would give purpose to SF troops to go and destroy those important points. or during a battle at a CP, the defending teams respawn time at that point should be longer, so that they dont just pop up and kill whoever is taking the point, or just have it so that on the respawn map the little icon thing is red, meaning you cant spawn there because the point is being contested. stuff like that would make people hold onto their lives more, while not barring them from entering the action quickly. keep the game realistic, but keep it fun as far as spawning goes.

I dont like the defib thing, its just plain unrealistic. That doesnt happen like that. If you get shot, you are not going to be treated for a heart attack! it makes no sense. It's like in Red vs Blue where the guy gets shot in the head, so the other guy gives him CPR!

no, it's not. defib is fun. when you feel like messing around: go play bf2. when you feel like serious gameplay: go play project reality.

Is this true? i thought it was a great way to keep your team together and i know it's not realistic but i would think that running from your base alone to your squad isn't realistic aswell.

oh well.

It deminishes the importance of medic as well as undermines the realism of the mod. Aside from the medic getting a few points, why put your neck on the line for a guy when he can come right back in 30 seconds?

i agree, out with the squad leader spawn.

-has anyone ever played the Axis and allies computer game? they have a pretty good respawn going for them. true, its is a RTS game so you dont actually take the POV of a soldier, but when youre squad takes casualties they can only be replaced when they are in a friendly territory (around a CP or near their main base), so what if PR put this kind of feature in, where if a man is lost, the sqaud can respawn him if they are at a friendly cp and not in combat. this doesnt take away the importance of a medic in battle and at the same time allows the squad to be kept together while not allowing them to continuously respawn during battle, which would take away the medics importance.

Spawning should only be able at a spawn point your team has already captured, meaning behind friendly lines. It can take you a while then to get back with your team but will let you work harder to stay alive because you do not want to take route 66 again. But anyway, the way EA has intended this game to be is just a cool looking boom boom shoot and blow stuff up game. Realism has no importance to them, so thatâ$™s why they did not use anything else for the spawn issue.
