Error detected: default controls restored....

Just reinstalled windows 7, and then reinstalled PR, as in:

Install BF2, 1.41 patch, 1.5 patch, PR parts 1, 2 and 3.

When I try and load PR, I get the following:

Error detected: default controls restored. Please make sure to re-edit your controls if needed from the Project reality menu.


Any ideas?

Does your game crash after you get this error, or are you still able to play? As I understand it, it means that your controls has been restored to the default layout, for example Push-to-talk is B, 3D map is Left Alt, etc. etc.

If you're still able to play the game, all you need to do is to take a look at your controls, and see if there are any controls you want to change.

I have the some problem today. I can go in game, i klick un PR, the pop up goes up, and the error

got this same problem. i try to login to PR but all i see are offline accounts (even thought ive used that account in vbf2 played in a server no problem) and the right after it tries to login the pr main menu flashes but instantly crashes. I tried using windowed mode to get a error message but nothing..

That is something you get then you first start PR (reinstall) shouldnt be displayed ever again.
Did you start BF2 one time befor starting PR?
Thats just to be sure.

Everyone with this problem has the same problem. Only vanilla BF2 can create the user config file (keybind file) in Documents/battlefield 2/ .

You must login to vanilla BF2, and join a multiplayer online server.
Leave the server, then
Adjust your audio, video and keybinds in vanilla BF2.
Exit BF2.

Start PR.

All will work.

okay so i tried to multiple ways, but im back at square one now. ive got vanilla vanilla bf2 installed and i played around in a server. i changed settings and quit out of the game. i boot the game up and im greeted with an account thats only titled "Offline".. I login and look at the settings and the control layout is completely empty until you click restore defaults, and video settings remain unchanged from default.

\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default\Controls.con

To here,
\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\[PROFILE NUMBER, such as 0001 or 0002]\Controls.con

I got a buddy of mine to make a temporary account for me on his battlefield 2 and sent me the profile files... I managed to connect to a game but got kicked by punkbuster (had some problems updating during the install)

it seems to wipe the profile. .cons everytime i logout of a successful login
