New to this mod- Noob friendly servers?
Hey guys, I'm new to PR and was wondering if there are any noob-friendly servers? Preferably ones that don't require Mumble, since I don't have a mic. Just looking for a friendly server, preferably UK-based, willing to forgive someone who'll probably make a few noob mistakes.

Not having a mic is a disavantage on all servers. Even MORE on servers that don't use mumble.
Not having a mic is a problem but it doesn't piss off everyone, just say that you can hear his orders to your SL but not respond to them via voice. Just use "L" to type to the squad.
For UK based servers there is :
*NwA* UK Reality
MeRk UK teamwork
Project Reality: PRSPY
Also everyone uses mumble, with or without a mic you need it, so you can hear orders and other players around you

Could try co-op to learn the basics if you havent already. You know what mumble is so thats a good start

I'm not going to sugar coat this like LHeureux. People are going to treat you like a second class citizen if you don't have a mic in this game. I am sorry, but at this point in PR's development, the community that plays PR don't just expect a mic, they demand one. It isn't out of the question for you to have a good experience without one, but it is unlikely.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Yeah, I understand. I'm actively looking for a mic though, so I should have one soon enough, and the headphones I use came with a mic... Which I promptly lost. So if I can find that I guess I'd be set.mat552 wrote:I'm not going to sugar coat this like LHeureux. People are going to treat you like a second class citizen if you don't have a mic in this game. You can still use Mumble even though you don't have a mic.

It would hone your skills as you go through the learning curve until you can find a mic. But I think you can still use mumble without a microphone. I think AfterDune (dev) doesn't even use a mic???
But don't worry, I'm sure all players are willing to help you learn the game!
Welcome to PR by the way.

Get a mic mate, in the mean time join our server or Merk (both UK based) and let people know that you can hear them but cant respond and is willing to follow orders via chat, but as most have said you wont get far without a mic.

Re: New to this mod- Noob friendly servers?
welcome to PR my friend! this is a matured community that has been around for a long time, alot of the players nowadays dont want anything to do with people without mics, but as with any community there are still those out there that want to help you regardless of your hardware. join a squad and let them know of your predicament, if they dont like it than move on! the thing PR needs right now is new players so i want you to hop in to a game and get learning! as long as you have mumble then you can do just as well as anyone else in the game, 99% of the inter-squad comms over mumble is just mindless chatter, if you can type "nme 180" quickly then thats all you need. i do also want to highly recommend getting a mic, save up your change, and buy a cheap $10-15 one. once you have a mic your game experience will skyrocket trust me. Happy gaming and i hope to see you on the battlefield soon!

To learn how to shoot properly,....learn the maps,...the different weapons and how to use and operate them,....learn to know the kits,....learn the different assets and how to use/operate them,....learn to fly (if you like) etc...ISemiI wrote:What would that achieve, exactly?
So you don't do al that stuff on a "live" server.
Just a example
Of course you can jump into a normal server,. grab a riflemen kit and tell the SL your new...but if your complete new to PR it cannot hurt to just first go on coop server to learn the basics..
Anyway,....O/T,....a mic is great and needed for the teamplay in which it is all about in PR.

Huh, I thought I saw him write something about not hearing the aircraft noises that much on Normandy night(was a Normandy thread) because he uses speakers? lol I dunno.Pvt.LHeureux wrote:AfterDune does use a mic. His voice is really deep, you can hear him in the Devcasts.

Its possible to have game sounds go through speakers and mumble through a headset though.ShaunOTEast wrote:Huh, I thought I saw him write something about not hearing the aircraft noises that much on Normandy night(was a Normandy thread) because he uses speakers? lol I dunno.

PR can be intimidating in the beginning, but generally there is just a few rules that you shouldn't break and you will be just fine.
Don't go squad-leader until you have experiences from looking at other good squad-leaders.
Join a squad that suits your skill, for example it is a bad idea to join a jet squad, or an attack helicopter squad even as gunner until you can quickly identify enemy targets and lases. It is quite easy to get a lot of Team-kills and get banned from a server that way when your new.
Without a mic you can still be a gunner of a vehicle, you can just plan with your driver that you will use the "Fall-back" ingame-voice if you want him to stop so you can shoot, and "go go go" if he can continue driving. Don't use "cease fire" "roger that" or "negative" as they are global and will be seen by the entire team.
Don't make a "sniper" squad as it gives people the impression that your a COD noob
Don't grab limited kits without asking your squad-leader first
Use your map and identify your target as enemy before shooting... TK does happen but it's better to eat a bullet than to take down a friendly in the long run. as long as your near your squad there medic will take care of you most likely.
check the vehicle rule of the server. (when in a squad you use L then type !rules and it will show above, you may need to use the key left of 1 above tab, to enter the console and then page-up to scroll up) Some servers allow you to solo vehicles where you can jump into the gunner-seat without a driver. For example Anti Air vehicles, Technical's with an AT launcher and CROWS (Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station). This often doesn't make it a good idea though without others to cover you while moving, for example an apc.

Most of the good servers will kick you if you dont have mumble. Go get a mic.

Communication is THE key factor for successful PR-gaming imo.
So, as others said:
Get a mic, tell your SL and SMs that you are new and need some help and then, I am certain, you will have a great time!
