Goodbye Project Reality

Post by Agemman »

Winning a movie award means is a really good thing. It is the lime in the Corona, the rum in my cola, the Emma Watson in the Harry Potter movies. Do you know why that is? Because it means I go out with a minor bang. Although it can be seen as it has been over for quite some time, I never really said goodbye. This is the end of my PR career, and it has been a good one.

I am not sure how much of an imprint I have made on just these forums; I?ve mainly had random appearances in a few places here and there. A lot of people in the EU communities know me through other means though. I played in the last ever official PR Tournament under CATA. It was an interesting time. I signed up together with Plankton, seeing it as a challenge to join an organized team in such a scale.

I was tipped off by Lan, an old vet, to join the CATA-side rather than NATO; and what a fortune that was. Not at all aimed at the fact that NATO lost, but because of the people I came into contact with.
I started out assigned to a squad of offensive infantry. It started out quite bonkers really. Our Platoon Leader was not around much, neither was his squad. My Squad Leader had his computer break down and was out of action. Some time later I had gone from being a grunt to being a Platoon Leader ? something that was never my intention.
Here goes my first shoutouts. Brainlaag you magnificent *******; we had some awesome times there. You are a bit like a wildfire - beautiful, untamable, and fierce (no homo). Mahis, the grumpy finnish dude that probably won?t ever read this. Pirathenk, our Swede that pops up now and then. Ninja and Don, you suck compared to Brainlaag and you know it. Plankton and Opan, meh. Harold, we need to grab a beer again. I?ve missed a few, but I am terribly sorry to say that I don?t remember your names, but your actions will never be forgotten.

In the end I came out as 2iC of CATA, even commanded two battles to victory with the help of an excellent team. Bonsai, Orthas, Rex, Piwkin, Makee, Xact, AK, Onil, Uly, Keldysh, wehrmann, and so many more; thanks for the times we had together.

CATA as an experience brought me closer to the world of PR, and the works behind the gaming. I first met Wicca when he randomly joined our squad channel and said goodnight to everyone personally. He did that to at least more than 30 people in the entire TS.
Slowly I was being drawn into the works of PRTA. Together with Wicca I had a real blast. There were events, posters, logotypes, gaming, and much more going on. I led the Nordic Battlegroup together with him for the World Cup that year; a mission that I was not ready for in hindsight. The World Cup as a whole did fail unfortunately as well. But not all things are of evil seeing as I encountered Curry during this time.

That summer I moved to another part of Sweden while maintaining contact with Curry and others. I finally joined the 3rd Armoured Cavalry and brought a lot of people with me. We started off as a team that could do skirmishes, and ended up fighting in 32-player battles. A glorious journey with its ups and downs.

While building 3dAC I was also part of a few other projects. For a while I was helping C10 start, but that never happened. I helped to try and create a clan league; but oh boy, that blew up in my face. I?ve been on numerous projects, mainly together or initiated by Wicca, and they have all been a blast.

But now, over the last 9 months my interest in PR has come to almost a complete standstill, and I have realised it is time to end. The PR community is an awesome place, with great people. The lengths this project has gone are immense; I can still remember the first version ever released and trying it out. I remember taking my first steps on the old Muttrah. I remember ever release up to date, seeing as I have tried them all. It has been a good run PR, hopefully this community will live on for some time. Perhaps I will be back for a game or two.

@3dAC: Ya?ll stuck with me anyway. I am doing stuff behind the lines for your lazy asses.

Personal shoutout for Wicca:

But preferably not in the middle of the night. If I don?t answer during the day I am attending a lecture.

See you when v1.0 comes out.

I play PR pretty rarely myself nowadays (after a long break), but I like prowling around the forums for news and off-topic discussions. There's nothing quite like it - you'll be back.

I'm glad we'll still see you hanging around 3dAC, like Xact said, PR is a trip and it's a hard habit to shake because the trip is so good.

I remember when you burst onto the scenes of PRT, with the maggots, then the muppets, you guys were crazy. Good times.

See you off the battlefield brother!

p.s. No mention in your autobiography, I'm hurt :P

Good hunting! - Murkey.

Excellent. That is actually quite an interesting phenomena within this community. If something goes wrong and shit hits the fan, Wicca is to blame. NEWs server crashes and people rage, someone in mumble says a quiet "blame Wicca" and everyone does.

He is the hero Project Reality deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll blame him. Because he can take it. Because he is not our hero. He's a screaming Norweigan, a wailing lunatic. A true scapegoat.

Every damn forum is using a different plugin for that. I never get it right.

Shame you only managed to play in the last and probably worst campaign. Mightve been good regardless, but campaigns before were better!

Too bad youre leaving, not enough good people leading good clans, 3dac wont be the same without you. Always nice to play against skilled opponents tho!
