PR changed in a year?

Hey Guys,

Dont want to steal away the thunder from Agemman's topic but it made me realize something.

First! Some backstory About a year ago my laptop decided that PR was to awesome to be ran so I could only play it with shitty graphics and even shittier FPS. I decided to quit until I got a new machine. I kept hanging around on the forums being jealous of the cool stories and screenshots.

Since the beginning of February I got a new machine and I can play PR. Being very hyped up I played some PR the first weekend. A friend was over as well who never played PR so I started teaching him. Those games where ok'ish. It was to be expected with a new player and all the teaching.

After that I've played some games on my own in MERK and NWA. I couldn't find PRTA. But it surprised me that it wasn't as awesome as I remember. It seems the awesome games where whole teams coordinate and you fight for every inch. I've been in a cool game or two (crazy enough it was against bots on the coop server ), but the most cool online games so far where seeding games on PRTA and the odd game on MERK.

Did anyone who kept playing PR in the year I was out notice a change? It seems to be slower and even more random instead of inter squad coordination.

yeah the gameplay has definatley changed. when i played the most around 0.91 it was hard to find a not-coordinated game. now its hard to find a coordinated team anywhere. last time i actually was in a good team was last training with 3|AIU quite some time ago. makes me sad

Some people try to ignore the fact that the quality in the average PR player has declined, as well as quality in servers/admins. We have so many tools to help people communicate and work together such as mumble and the SL Radio and yet, even on servers that enforce it, people do not use them. I feel like many times im the only one using the radio marking stuff on the map.

Ignoring the problem doesnt make it go away.

And recently theres been a push to get new players into the mod. WHY!?!?!? Its these new people that we bring to the mod that i feel have degraded the community. Put it simply, If there is a player out there who is good for the PR community, he will find the mod, we dont need to find them.

My thought on this was that as PR is a mod for Battlefield 2, which is an aging game, we'd need to put more effort into getting the mod out there. I mean, how many people are googling "Battlefield 2 mods"? Anyone looking for a realism game/mod is probably searching "Call of Duty realism mod" or they're just buying Arma.

And on the new guys not being team players, I never really squad led before, but I figured since I am a semi-seasoned vet (I know my forums account was started in only January, I played long before that) that I would make the jump and try to SL more often. Even if it's just to get new players talking and realize how good teams are when they all communicate.

Most of the Developers including myself feel this, I haven't really played PR much over the past year or so either but we also feel that we have corrected main of the problems with the current version(s) in v1.0 and the awesomeness will return again for it

Good news Rhino! Very curious about the new game.

Darman, good initiative. I was thinking of doing the same. Have SL'ed a lot when I was still playing. But wanted to get PR in my fingers again so to say, before jumping to the SL radio.

I was also thinking of going CO more often to force people to listen to each other and come up with a general plan. Although I'm not sure what servers enforce hierarchy.

I hope that 1.0 does address some things but I am convinced it is the servers and their admins. And since they have control over their servers they have some culpability. There is a very immature and disrespectful attitude among players who treat this game as their play pen to grief and cause trouble. And the admins under pressure to keep servers full allow it. Us old school who try and formulate organized play are snuffed off as milisim or anal and the goof off "lolololo shut up its just game dude" are the majority in full control now.

For months now I kept hearing excuses for lack of players such as "oh its just because people are in school" or "many are playing other games" Nonsense. Many of my friends have left the game. Gone. Incoherent rules, nastiness, disrespect, racial inuendo (game chat and mumble) that goes unchecked. Do you really think a new player to PR has any reason to stay for another round of that?

I don't really want to play until 1.0 is out and ONLY if I see one or two of my friends online. I used to play every single day a year ago since 2007. Not now.
When servers kept a tight reign on what goes on in their servers it was a hell of alot better, organized and fun. But if this is the norm for PR? Forget it.

Admins have gone softcore from the second they realised if you loosen the belt a bit, you keep your server popped; yes there is a downside of retards and such, but hey, full server "pays off". PRTA started out great. Strict rules, mumble etc etc. If i wanted a good game, thats where i went. Slowly the bad playerbase was running dry and there was no filler...

I'm playing PR for 3-4 years now and I don't see a huge difference in the attitude of the players.

It's been a long time since the last release so many of the veterans are not playing atm.
Just wait for 1.0 and we'll see how it goes, I wouldn't say that everything is bad right now.

Who said anything about strict rules? How about just mutual respect, enforcing rules you already have?

Try running a business like that and see how many return customers you get.

There is a huge difference from one server to another on how the admins and players are. This is a result of the diversity of culture and respect for one another..... without mentioning any in particular some server admins lack respect for the mod, and let the game slip off-track, making it look bad. Putting rule on-top of rule and restricting the game in every possible way through developing, is never going to help as much as consistent and fair admins.

Some admins turn a blind eye and even do questionably stuff themselves, where as others ban as soon as they see 1 crashed chopper.
A good admin should warn first then kick or temporary ban if the warning doesn't work, then permanent ban if it happens again. 3rd strike and your out!!! not on 1st

Tactical Gamer was where it used to be at for full-scale teamwork, and while I too haven't played for around a year, I will always have fond memories of some games on that server.

I think that American timezones usually have the best teamwork, with Europeans being too diverse to interact with each other on such a large scale. Like if you have German Squad Leaders they are unlikely to interact with French or Russian Squad Leaders, which instantly kills inter-squad teamwork.

I always found the best time to play in the old days was at like 11:30-2am at night, that was when all the real teamwork went down, and all the Europeans who were down with teamwork (and could speak english) were still around at that time because of simply how great it is.

I relly hate when french, polish or russian people show up, for some reason. I understand german and i sometimes just sit in german squads listening to the SL. But his voice has to be calm-ish, not allcaps.

No, not at all, and that's no where near what I said.

I said that if there is a German Squad Leader, or French etc they are unlikely to co-operate with squads from other areas of Europe due to language barriers, how can a Frenchman coordinate with a Russian? Hence why I said it works if they speak English but otherwise inter-squad play, which is the main place that Teamwork comes into play, doesnt happen.
