Advice for new Squad Leaders
Since there's been a lot of talk about proper squad leading/teamwork lately, what are some things that players looking to step up to Squad Leader need to know? How do you know when you're capping, what do all the map symbols mean, what are some good strategies?

Re: Advice for new Squad Leaders
One thing I did when starting out squad-leading was just look at the map and search for weak spots in your team. See a flag with no one defending? Go defend it.
See a lack of FOB's? Build at least a FOB in a location usefull for the team (near defence flag or attacking flag)
See a squad attacking on its own? Move up to it and pick a flank to protect and move up on that flank. Thats how I did my first few assault. Just act as a "sister" squad to the squad who was attacking. Now with mumble it should be even easier. Announce that you're squad will be on his right or left and work together. This way you might even get support calls from them. Those are virtually just orders from a SL that he needs you to help out with his contacts for example.
This way you help out your team and you dont have to come up with cunning plans
It also makes sure you can focus on leading (talking to your squad-members, thinking about what to do next when you're attacking/defending, using SL radio). Once you feel comfy you can come up with cunning plans that win the game for your team
Also dont think to much about leading. Just be gentle and kind to the people in your squad. Dont forget its a game. I usually dont make a big deal about people taking kits. I only want a medic present in the squad. If no one steps up after asking a few times I just roll with it.

Re: Advice for new Squad Leaders
1. Set rules for your squadmembers , so how do you want to them to handle with kits? And do you want them to wait with giving up or do you want them to give up without asking. Just set some basic rules, some people won't like it, others will.
2. Always think Team>Squad>Your ego
3. Communicate with other squads.
well that's my part.

Try to be strict, but stay nice all the time. It's not like in real life, people can just click a button and then leave.
Just make a squad on an INS map, where you only have one major objective. I would learn it in that gamemode.

Re: Advice for new Squad Leaders
There is a thread about this in another section of the forum, but it's always good to talk about it in here I suppose.
What do you want from Squad Leading? If it's to spot for a CAS squad, to lead an Inf squad, or to take some guys across the map to build ninja-fob's, you're objectives from the game are different and you'll need seperate advice for each.
Personally, when I lead an Inf squad, I just try to get into the thick of it with as little walking as possible.
My 'objective' is to have a good firefight, and help my 5 guys overwhelm the other guys' 5 guys.
Seeing as I accept this is why I'm leading, it becomes a bit simpler! Generally I don't mind what kits everyone takes (as long as there's a medic if we are over 3 players). I see HAT, LAT and AA kits as defensive (to be requested only if fired upon from beyond the range of everyone elses guns, and I treat the main strength of my squad as the ability to fire 6 guns at (hopefully) one enemy at a time (#laughs madly#).
That's the theory anyway
I do tend to tell everyone that I want to find and kill the enemy (not wait for them for 30mins), and people seem to still stay around me. And we do tend to have a few good moments, although depressingly I find nowadays that I'm a bit lazy and just garrison the nearest building to the enemy. But to be fair that's how you get by.. You play defensively, offensively, unfortunately.
To be honest, I could do with playing a bit more, I'm not as good as I used to be at squad leading.. Lol.
PS. Taking to other squad leaders. This used to be a bit of an art, however since nobody extra can hear you now, and only half the guys you talk to bother to reply, you can basically be as lax as you want. Although I do try to be serious sometimes it's just easier to be really colloquial, and not really convey that much info but waffle on a bit. Hey, at least I admit it. And at least I initiate it.
