Operating System :
Windows 7 64 Bits
Motherboard :
PK5 SE
Processor :
Intel Core2 Duo E4600 @ 2.40GHz
Memory :
2GB DDR2 PC8500 - 1066 Mhz

do you think this is because of the weakness of my processor ?

Thx for reading me !

what are you overclocking? Your video card isnt the problem here. The problem is your CPU / ram. You can turn up your video settings and won't notice much change in the fps. However, I would drop your view distance to around 85% and it should help the most. Also, try using gamebooster. That program will automatically turn off any unecessary programs/services (and turn them on again when ur done gaming) giving your CPU a lighter load.

yeah ! cpu and ram overclock , and my computer is clean , i reinstalled windows there one week .
I'll try gamebooster . Reduce the viewing distance is a good way to get killed far without seeing anything right? ^ ^

I have the same problem with the game, my FPS drops whenever I'm starring at a direction with a large view area. My FPS didn't change a lot either when adjusting the video settings(I had 8GB of RAM ffs), your best bet at gaining FPS is, unfortunately, turning down the view distance. But look at it this way, most of the combat you'll be doing as infantry are usually <150m, where FPS and quick reactions are a lot more important than view distance.

I use a program to optimize my RAM and CPU while playing PR, search up "Mz RAM Booster" on Google and set it to optimize every 5 minutes. I've noticed an improvement of around 10 FPS on maps with a lot of objects in the background.

Other than that, the only other way of improving your FPS in PR is to buy a new computer or upgrade your CPU, GPU, and Memory of your desktop computer. You can try overclocking, but you'll have to see if your processor even supports it.

Not 100% sure, but RAM seems especially problematic, more so than your CPU (your GPU should be fine for sure). Your current mobo doesn't support higher than DDR2 though. I guess ideally you'd want to look into upgrading your mobo to something that supports DDR3. No idea if you can get that and LGA 775 socket though for your CPU myself though.

I recently upgraded my CPU/MOBO/memory for about 400€. I was also still working with ddr2 and an old dual core. Trust me it's worth the money ;)

Although I can't see why you would run PR so bad. 3gb ddr2 is more then enough me thinks.

Heya,

1. You need to unpark your CPU:
http://bitsum.com/about_cpu_core_parking.php

You need to optimize windows:

Easiest way:
You need to optimize your Windows processes.
i.e. use Gamebooster to do so automatically, using the links below as a reference guide:
or do so manually using these links as guidelines:

Sean's Windows 7 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs

Black Viper?s Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Service Configurations | Black Viper | www.blackviper.com

Windows 7 Services

..................

More complex way:
Build a custom Windows 7 installation using rt7lite and WinReducer7:

--------------
Here is my regular suggestions for people who ask:
'[R-COM wrote:LITOralis.nMd']Recording with Fraps cuts fps by 50% on ALL systems. NO way around this afaik.

As for increasing your fps, we have some common solutions,
delete the shaders cache in your c:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache folder
then
1. defrag your hard drive. the PR and addons installers tend to get fragmented, which slows down read/writes and slows down fps.
2A. Download and install IOBit Gamebooster3. Speed Up Slow Computer, Keep PC and Internet Secure, Freeware Download - IObit
MajorGeeks.com has a decent video tutorial on using this program:
Using IOBit Game Booster 3 by Majorgeeks.com - YouTube

2B. Read through these guides:
Windows 8 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs ─ Sean's Windows 8 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs
Windows 7 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs - Sean's Windows 7 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs
Windows 8, 7 , Vista, and XP Tweakguides from Tweakguides.com TweakGuides.com - The TweakGuides Tweaking Companion

3. Download Bitsum ProcessLasso Free. Make sure you download the correct version, Free 32 bit or Free 64 bit, Process Lasso - Automate and optimize priorities, CPU affinities, power profiles, and much more!
-- Start PR, alt tab to desktop, open ProcessLAsso window, right click on PR.exe, TR.exe, BF2.exe, PRMumble.exe and pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrB.exe and give them default priority status of High, set the Tr PR and BF2 to gaming mode, and give them high or higher access to RAM.
4. Determine which OS you have, and if it is 32 bit or 64 bit. Once you are 100% certain you know , follow this guide for your OS:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... b-ram.html

5. Check your Page File, if set to a sliding value, I suggest
deleting pagefile.
rebooting.
resetting pagefile manually to a single minimum/maximum.
Here is the raw information to determine your correct pagefile: How to determine the appropriate page file size for 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2008 and or Windows 2008 R2
And here is a video tutorial to figure out your correct pagefile size:

then optionally:
manually setting it to a single minimum/maximum, and getting a defrag progam that will move the pagefile to the beginning of your hard drive. A free option:FAQ Special files - How do I defragment "C:\pagefile.sys" (the swapfile)?

Your video card can be overclocked slightly, which could add 3 to 10 fps, I can not find a newer guide since your GPU is from 2007, but RivaTuner, NTune, and several other programs can overclock your GPU,
Please be careful and read enough information to understand what you are doing before overclocking your CPU and/or GPU!

SO.
Step 1. fixes any hard drive issues.
Step 2. shut downs unneeded background processes freeing up RAM and system resources.
Step 3. Gives the BF2 and PR and PRmumble and punkbuster programs High priority for RAM and system resources.
Step 4. Gives the BF2 and PR.exe programs the ability to use individually over 2GB of RAM when needed, and reduces the amount of RAM being reserved (wasted) by the OS.
Step 5. Create fixed size Pagefile and defragmenting it.

My guess is your CPU is only utilizing one core, you need to use the Bitsum core unparking utility posted above.
And my guess is your Windows installation is reserving over 1.5GB of RAM at all times even though it might only be using 799MB or less when running PR.

You NEED to do this:
Ultimate Windows Tweaker v 2 : Feedback & Support
Ultimate Windows Tweaker v 2 : Feedback & Support
You need to shut off everything you can, i.e. aero themes, desktop compoisition, etc, to free up as much RAM and pagefile as possible.
Please read carefully as you work through this program.

Obviously your GPU is not the problem,

The GTX 285 is pretty close to a GeForce GTX 560 Ti .

One more thing, if you are only using one older hard drive, you might want to use a defrag utility to move your BF2 and PR directories to the front of the drive.

You can use a free program like www.mydefrag.com and use the mydefrag custom scripts found in the forum at that website, or you can buy or use a trial version of a program like O&O defrag to do this.

Depending on how much you want to spend on this project PC,
Also consider buying a refurbished Core2Duo CPU or Core2Quad in the second hand market,

Your current CPU has a TDP of 65 Watts, you must check your motherboard to find the maximum supported TDP of the CPU socket, and also check to see if your motherboard can support Core2Quad CPUs.
You can open CPU-Z again and click on the Mainboard tab to find the manufacturer and model number, and BIOS revision, that should give you enough info to answer the questions about TDP and Core2Quad support with a quick google search.

List of Core2Quad CPUs that have 65 Watt TDP:
ARK | Advanced Search

List of Core2Duo CPUs that have 65 Watt TDP:
ARK | Advanced Search

I'm sitting down right now doing the same as you, converting my old Intel Q8200 into a HTPC/backup server that can also play PR.

hello ,
I just changed my processor to an e8400. I use now process lasso and i have kill unnecessary Windows services .
Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs require i format my hard drive and it's impossible for the moment .
And my pagefile is fixed 2048-2048 .
there was an increase of 10/15 fps in general. and the minimum should be 30/35 now.
My bios is set to default, I'm looking how to further improve performance.

I have not tried GameBooster yet , it is useful when the useless Windows services are already stopped?

Thx u again

Heya,
good to hear you've seen better fps results from new CPU,

Yes, gamebooster will help you shut down more unneeded processes.

I still strongly suggest you unpark your CPU cores,

Also, you should attempt to shut down as many visual options in Windows as possible, such as Aero Glass, and other things, you can do this easily with this program:
Ultimate Windows Tweaker v 2.2
Ultimate Windows Tweaker, a TweakUI for Windows 7 & Vista

im looking Ressource Monitor and windows never park cores .
0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583 regedit key valuemax is set to 0 . Probably cpu parking is already inactive by Windows 7 older optimizations ?!? .

is my shortcut appropriate ?
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe /c start "PR" /affinity 2 "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +playerName ArseniC_Lud*(FR)* +playerPassword ***** +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1 +restart

I have a new problem

When ProcessLasso and pr are launched now, mumble is very slow .
Almost 1/2 second of latency, then freeze after 3 or 4 min. Sometimes it works 10 min ^ ^
I changed a lot of Windows settings and I installed GameBooster which seems to work well .

Mumble works fine with Pr when Process Lasso is uninstalled.
I have read your tutorial to fully configure Process Lasso. it worked very well a few days ago, I do not understand .
-- Start PR, alt tab to desktop, open ProcessLAsso window, right click on PR.exe, TR.exe, BF2.exe, PRMumble.exe and pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrB.exe and give them default priority status of High,

set the Tr PR and BF2 to gaming mode, and give them high or higher access to RAM.
Give them high or higher access to RAM : Tr , PR and BF2 only ?

thx !

I have no immediate answer, I think you are on the right track, try to remove ProcessLasso's changes to PRmumble.exe ,

I would like to make it work again ... I continue searching for the problem ^^

Install Windows XP on a 2nd Sata HD dedicated to PR is a good idea for my FPS?
or another OS?

Add 1GB ram to have 4 ?

Thank you again !

Another significant increase of framerate with e8400 overclocking from 3.0ghz to 3.6ghz .
All graphics settings Medium & Antialiasing x2
The game looks better now & i do not fall below 35/40 fps .

Thank you for your help !
