Joystick mapping and tips

Post by Hotshot Jimmy »

Hi all,

I had a look through some old topics on Joysticks in PR and one got very close to questions that are bugging me while i'm learning the Trans role. So I have a Saitek Cyborg Evo Wireless which has twelve keys. Now I know it has a mapping function/profiler (?) but i've never used it. PR has a few added things like dropping supply crates and extra views etc. Im a little puzzled to what does what as the control options don't list these items and I only found out about these by loading my own game and just pressing all the keys. Some of the keys used to have external views but of course they are now redundant. Basically my questions are;

What in the control options keylist does what (PR commands specifically)?

And is there a way to say stick the mumble channels (Squad, other squads etc) on the now unused keys?

I notice the same key for dropping a crate also has a secondary function for an extra view when cycling through the interior views. Is there a way to use the mouse to view the interior like when driving a ground vehicle?

Also when in a vehicle that has multiple ammo types or more than one weapon my Mumble Squad comm key will fire the secondary weapon. Bascially i'm confusing myself and sitting on an empty server pressing all the keys to see what does what is becoming daft. I would be much abliged if someone could shed some light on this subject. :) After all that I might actually be a combat ready pilot :m1helmet: :firing:
Cheers,

Hey, if your joystick came with software designed to assign each button a keyboard key, you should use that instead, it would make things much easier. Other than that, you can manual assign each button on your keyboard in mumble settings and BF2 control settings. Another alternative could be to edit the controls.con file, located in "My documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/(Profile #)".

Remember the default keys for the following

Primary Fire - Mouse Left Click or Space
Secondary Fire - Mouse Right Click or Numpad 0
Drop crate - Right mouse click
Cycle Weapons - F
Left side cockpit view - 7
Top cockpit view - 8
Right side cockpit view - 9
Default Cockpit View - 1
Flares/Countermeasures - X

The reason that you might be firing your secondary weapon when using coms might be because by PR defaults "Space" is binded to fire primary weapon, "Number Pad 0" is to fire secondary.

staying on subject i'm curious if anyone found a way to use a joysticks controls for "mouse look" or if it has only been used with Face-track-No-IR. It would be handy to use free look with for example the joystick hat so that left turns your head in a fluent motion left and right starts turning your head right...instead of those unrealistic camera views that also disables your weapons when used.

Ye even if the mouse was still avtive while flying, the view would be much more realistic.
