C-130 Truck delivery/spawn

Post by PLODDITHANLEY »

Worried about getting shot down but to hell with it....

Rather then the Argentine faction having a logistic(s) truck that respawns, the C-130 must fly to the island from the Mainline which would let the truck the spawn?

Could be silly, but could be fun on one layer (alt) for example. or would give the downed pilots something to do whilst waiting for their jets to respawn.

Recreates the realism of the nightly C-130 missions ran every night during the conflict.

Ye, could be fun but that's if we get a C-130, which the only one in BF2 right now is an AC-130 from DCON, which as I mentioned in the other topic they have never wanted to trade with us and don't think that would have changed.

Ignoring that part, Stanley airport is pretty damn small on the maps 1:30 scale and has a massive bomb creator in the middle of it :p

Might be a bit tricky to land on it hehe :p

Not to mention how easy it would be to shoot down.

How did the manage IRL, I assume the undamaged bit of the runway enough for a C-130 to land?

Yes maybe too much that the C-130 would need fighter escort to keep it safe(r). In squad teamwork for the air force squad.

Arte you going to stick some more craters in to make a line?

OT rant:

One thing that really bugs me about ALL the Falklands literature is them saying the first Vulcan bomb run (black buck 1) was a failure as it only hit it with one bomb - that was the idea, at that time with laser guiding not being quite there if they tried to drop along the length of the runway that would've failed.
So naturally they went to drop a stick at an angle (at 45deg) to the runway to make sure they'd disable it, as the amount of work to repair it to fast jet standards would have taken too long. They had seen that the Argentinians had brought up an arrestor barrier for the A4's to use the airfield that's why they needed to keep it damaged.
But black buck 2 did miss....

Aerial reconnaissance photo of Port Stanley Airport. The craters from Black Buck One's bombs can be seen in the middle. Black Buck Two's craters can be seen more clearly to the left.
The side benefit of the black buck raids is that the AAF redeployed fighters to North Argentina airbases as the possibility of the mainland being bombed was present after the Vulcan raids.

I believe enough of the runway was undamaged for the C-130 to take off and land, since it doesn't need that much of an airstrip but not 100% on that.

I haven't heard the first mission called a failure before? While its physical impact was ye, not that much it did massively to moral and to the redeployment of aircraft and most significantly IMO, even thou its hardly mentioned it kept most of the Mirage IIIEA's out of the main conflict, as they where kept back to protect Argentina itself from Vulcan attack as the Argentinians where so worried about the mainland getting bombed, meaning the harriers had very little to deal with enemy aircraft trying to take them out, resulting in no harriers being lost to air to air combat.

Sharkey Ward RN naval sea Harrier pilot talking about the Vulcan 'threat' to Argentina:
"Propaganda was, of course, used later to try to justify these missions: 'The Mirage IIIs were redrawn from Southern Argentina to Buenos Aires to add to the defences there following the Vulcan raids on the islands.' Apparently the logic behind this statement was that if the Vulcan could hit Port Stanley, the[sic] Buenos Aires was well within range as well and was vulnerable to similar attacks. I never went along with that baloney. A lone Vulcan or two running in to attack Buenos Aires without fighter support would have been shot to hell in quick time."-"Mirage IIIs were in evidence near the islands on several occasions during the conflict, either escorting the Neptune reconnaissance missions or on 'interference' flights that attempted to draw CAP attention away from air-to-ground attacks."-"Suffice it to say that you didn't need more than one or two Mirage IIIs to intercept a Vulcan attack on Buenos Aires"-"It would have taken much more than a lone Vulcan raid to upset Buenos Aires" Ward (1992), pp. 247-48.

^ yeah he said as much in 'forgotten voices' too; claiming it was a desperate attempt for RAF to be more involved so they could get a slice of the action. Sharkey has got quite alot to say on the war tbh, he really didn't like Admiral Woodward; I suspect that Sharkey was a pirate in a previous life.

Though I'm sure thats probably true too, the capability of bombing buenos aires (or implied capability) probably did damage morale; it certainly did send a statement of intent.

The RAF get more involved paaah!

First air to air kill RAF pilot in Sea Harrier
All ground attack getting shot at was RAF GR's
There were alot of RAF pilots in RN Sea Harriers.

This however is the thing I find stupid in all the military organisations this Air Force/Army/Navy and Marines to a degree infighting.

As I said before they had seen a Skyhawk arrestor on Port Stanley airfield everyone was doing their max to avoid the horrible outcome had they been posted there.

Navy did big bombardments.
RAF GR's risked a lot of ground fire to bomb
Vulcans too.

Only the vulcans managed to make it fast jet inoperable....

Can't say I've heard of any parachute supplies being used during the Falklands and seeing how we have Choppers doing that job of giving supplies to front line troops I don't think its really require gameplay wise.

I've always thought of having a herc, where you entered it and got a parachute (or even airborne kit), and the pilot dropped you on his accord. But I do see how this could be difficult on a map with such small landing strips. Then again, STOL.

What rhino is going for is realism, if the Brits use the C130, im sure he find a way to use it. But considering were dealing with the BF2 engine here its a compleatly different story. I don't recall the Argentinians using airborne inf. Nor the brits tho i could be wrong.

Brits didn't use one, although there was an SAS mission planned on Argentina involving a C-130 that would land in an enemy airbase where the Exocet missiles + the planes that where carrying them where (and the one I've made ingame too), the SAS troops would disembark while it was still on the runway and raid the airbase, trying to take out any jets/missiles it could on the ground then if the C-130 was still up, get out on it but that mission never happened :p

Argentinians didn't use any airborne troops, just ferried supplies and aircraft over in the C-130s.

But, instead of taking-off and landing in Stanley with his ridiculously small landing strip, why not having a C-130 at Rio Grande that can ferry crates/people to the Falklands ? :)

Because, I once spawned on the mainland because I didn't changed my spawnpoint and well... I was stranded on an airfield with no boats, no helicopters, no C-130, just fighters that I can't use because I'm not in their squad :p

I had to suicide because they were absolutely nothing that could bring me to the Falklands and I think we should have this option :)

Maybe not helicopters, though, because in real life, that's a pretty damn huge distance to travel ^^

That is the solution right there if you didn't spawn in the correct place, which with the having to press done before you spawn, is quite unlikely now...

Adding a C-130, ignoring the fact we would have to make one from scratch, just to ferry the very odd person who spawns in the incorrect place, isn't even worth the extra networkable count, let alone the textures etc and a player having to be tied up with flying it, which would also be a very easy target for any harriers so any players that are getting a lift, which can't land on the falklands due to no large runway there due to map scale, would most likely get shot down and would have effectively suicides, although taking a pilot, and a vehicle with its ticket count too, not to mention the wasted time for all players involved, other than the harrier pilot.

All in all, no...

How about making some network between airbases and land mainbase. It would be vehicle with two seats, when from one you exit at airbase, and from second at mainland. It would prevent situation when you need to suicide in order to go to fight.

A Teleporter? Pretty sure they didn't have them back in 1982 :p

Its a interesting idea, but tbh, not worth the effort unless loads of people are having this problem, would be hard enough just to get the message across to all the players letting them know its there.

One can't simply step through a teleporter without being armed with a phaser.
If you're adding a teleporter be sure to add a phaser too.
Best line yet...

I wonder if it would be cool to make a Project Reality mini-mod based on Halo with the UNSC against the Covenant... With all the deviation and good physics etc... lol :p

Seriously getting off-topic here xD
