Crash on Splash Screen

Post by big_ears2501 »

Firstly I would like to apologise for creating yet another CTD thread. The reason why I'm doing so is due to reading several other threads from several forums and still not getting the results.

Alright, so I'm just going to list all that I've done thus far in the attempt to get PR running in chronological order, keep in mind PR has failed to load after each point.

1. Check if both the shortcut and pr.exe are running as admin.

2. Repair net. framework 4.

3. Uninstall/reinstall PR.

4. Double check to see if BF2 will load, it does.

5. Uninstall/reinstall net. framework 4.

6. Adding this command (+modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050) to the end of the shortcut.

7. I looked at the firewall to see if PR had an exception, which it did. Yes I know the firewall has nothing to do with the app booting but hey, I was desperate.

I think you should start with this post about the correct installation of the PR mod. \

Take note at the end on how to start in windowed mode if the problem is still happening, You should get an error message if its in windowed mode:

If BF2 was already working, we'll suggest one course of action. (Could be firewall/antivirus/router/installation error/etc)
IF BF2 was just installed NOW so you can play PR, all the parts have to be installed in proper order.
Please read below and make sure you installed BF2 and PR in this order:

Here is the installation guide with download links:
PR:BF2 Support - Project Reality Forums
PR:BF2 Support - Project Reality Forums

Here is the installation guide in tl;dr format:

Install BF2.
Run BF2.
Note the version number on the bottom left corner of the log-in screen. Write it down.
log in or create a user account.
join online game.
adjust your audio and video settings now for convenience.
exit BF2.
Reboot.

(Optionally if you bought it) install Special Forces Addon.
Run BF2.
log in.
join online game.
exit BF2.
Reboot.

install 1.41 FULL PATCH.
Run BF2.
log in.
join online game.
exit BF2.
Reboot.

install 1.5 PATCH.
Run BF2.
log in.
join online game.
exit BF2.
Reboot.

Download and install 0.973 full installer.
Start the PR shortcut on desktop.
log in.
exit PR.

Download and install the PR 0.973 to 0.981 Patch
(If it CTDs, Edit the PR shortcut as described below.)
Start the PR shortcut on desktop.
log in.
join online game.

If you crash at the splash screen, or the screen goes black and then crashes to desktop, try to start PR in windowed mode by following the directions below:

Edit your PR shortcut and ( what AfterDune said ) put this in it

Code: Select all

Code:
"D:\Program Files\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +restart +menu 1 +fullscreen 0 +szx 1280 +szy 720
Dont just copy paste this, but adjust to your install location. Make sure you dont omit quotation marks or it wont work.If you start in windowed mode and it CTDs, a Message will pop up telling you the problem. Take a screenshot or write this down and post it to this thread.

You can then download the Anders Soundmod at your discretion.

Thank you for the useful reply SnipeHunt. As for you Daniel, don't be a derp.

I can assure you that BF2 and PR are being installed properly and that BF2 is in working order. As suggested, I've tried running PR in windowed mode and it come back with this crash report.

Description:
Stopped working

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: CLR20r3
Problem Signature 01: pr.exe
Problem Signature 02: 0.9.6.3
Problem Signature 03: 4dc3bbae
Problem Signature 04: mscorlib
Problem Signature 05: 2.0.0.0
Problem Signature 06: 503ef855
Problem Signature 07: 34a5
Problem Signature 08: 1c5
Problem Signature 09: System.IO.IOException
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48
Locale ID: 3081

After doing a bit of research on the CLR20r3 error I'm now cleaning out the Windows registry and I'll post if that will solve the issue.

If you have not yet done this:

Do a site search for realitymod.com for the error CLR20r3

There are alot of threads that look helpful. Looks like it could be a few different things from incorrect pathing of the shortcut to .net problems. Good news is that the threads that come up have good solid info and alot of confirmed fix posts.

Good news is that others have had this problem.
Bad news is, we never figured out what the problem was.

I beat my head against the wall on this problem here:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... ost1734604

In the end, only tewo things seems to work:

1. Go to your bf2\mods\pr\ folder and Run Pr.exe as admin on an admin account. Sometimes a corrupt shortcut is at fault.

2. Reinstalling BF2 and PR. That was only thing that worked for some.

This is another probable cause. But not a solution.

OK a couple of things might be your problem. First and foremost, the crash while loading might have buggered your profile directories, so it might be an idea to delete them all , then use BF2 vanilla to recover them. Then try PR again.
