portable mg nests
I was reading a previous post and i saw someone was complaining that mg nests face the way that nobody goes. So I was thinking why not have the engineer or someone be able to carry a lmg that you could set up. This was used in Forgotten hope and i thought it was a good idea.
-Say your squad leader wants your squad to defend an area so engineers set up some machine gun nests and the enemy would have a hell of a time trying to get through your defense.
-I see that this could case some unfair rapping such as the support class does now but you could always make it destructable and say limit one for each person (like you can only lay 5 or so c4 per person). Also it would take a good 30 seconds to assemble and dismantle so people wouldn't be able to move 3 steps then see an enemy then set it up again just to kill them.
-Im not sure if this could be done or not but I think it would add an intresting aspect to defense.

Make a 50 cal machine gun with tripod that spawns just like a vehicle. Three guys(Maybe two) have to carry it but when it's deployed it's just like any of the static machine gun nests. That's what we did in the army, and here's some advice; don't stumble while carrying a 72 kilo machine gun
. You could also transport it by vehicle, lets say three guys carry it and enter a vehicle, when they get out they are still carrying it. Or something like that.

yeah but who wants to just be the ammo guy?
especially if you never get to fire the thing...would be nice if the squads were a little bigger...would make squad work much more meaningful...say an 8 man squad.. (obviously would be nice if we could have 128 players as BF2 is designed to do but just another failure on their part)

how about this, it seems like a perfect solution.
have only one kit necesary to work it, but have it deploy without ammo, so you need an assault guy to give it ammo before it can even be used?
that way theres not like a dedicated MG AMMO CLASS (ie ghost town class), but you cant just put down a gun and rain hell down on the enemy.

M240 and other GPMG's as an individual, restricted-kit weapon for 32 and 64p maps. The weapon contains 200 magazines of one bullet each, in essence a linked belt, auto-reloading at the weapon's normal rate of fire. An ammo-carry player keeps the machine gunner stocked with fresh ammo bags as he "feeds" more rounds into the belt.

Definitely do-able. I don't think the engine allows you to simply put down and pick up weapons, but you can drop an object that causes a bi-podded weapon to spawn where it hit the ground. Then you can have the bi-pod weapon have the property to reload the "spawning object" that the certain class had, but can only carry ONE of. So you drop the object (mgun model or something), it spawns a bi-podded weapon (after a few seconds) and then refills your now empty clip of droppable-mguns. You can use it and then when you get off of it, it will destruct from a time out in like .1 seconds (too fast for someone else to dive on it). You can prevent cheats by manipulating the distance for the reload (like you have to be "in" the gun to get a new one). You can do this with about anything.
In fact, you can make a model of a humvee towing a howitzer or such and when you deploy it, something similar happens.
