I have almost the same problem as the guy in this thread: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... -help.html
I get the same error message, BUT I can hear the people talking to me on the headset. So what's the problem?
Well I can only hear them on my right earpiece of the headset. I use the G35. There is nothing wrong with the headset itself as I can listen to music just fine and hear it on both sides.
I have tried reinstalling both with the headset as the standard audio output device and with my normal speakers. No difference. My speakers will work but I can't hear them with the headset on and I can't speak without it.

Ok so I enabled surround sound (on the headset) and it seems like I can no longer hear people at all.

THis is specific to USB headsets that have surround sound capabilities.
Your solution is in this thread:

Several ways to get your headset to work,
Specifically this one always works:

to fix this, you have to disable the G35 sound manager (should have an icon in the system tray) BEFORE you start PRmumble and PR.
Always disable G35 sound manager before starting PRMumble and PR.
Always run PRMumble as admin.
Always run PRMumble before PR.
