Hello everyone,
Since the new .98 patch I have a very, very rare issue. Whenever a rocket has a direct impact (insta-kill) shot on me or my vehicle my system just reboots. What is the problem? I have had this several times and it is f**ck**g annoying me since whenever complete hell breaks out my PC will often reboot.
My system specs;
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit SP1
Nvidia GeForce GTX550Ti 3gb with the latest drivers
Intel Core i5 650 3.2Ghz
8GB Ram DDR3
Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. V-P7H55E X.0x
Serial Number: MT7002K43800755
Can anyone help me and see what the problem is?
This could also be a general problem but since I only play PR at the moment I have only encountered in PR.

That sounds very very rare Pronk. You're just unlucky.

Re: Rockets to the face cause a reboot
This is rare indeed.
General questions to help troubleshoot:
1. What is the maker and model number of your PSU? What is the Wattage rating? What is the Wattage rating on the 12V rail?
2. Are you using onboard audio?
3. Are you using a USB headset?
4. The latest NVidia drivers are causing random crashes in Planetside 2, I had to revert back to the prior stable drivers. However, the newest drivers did not cause PR to crash. Just something to consider.
Here are some general troublshooting tips you should try. I don't know if they'll help diagnose this problem or not though,
1. Try lowering the PR audio settings. Start at software low, and work your way back to hardware high.
1a. Check your audio settings in Windows,
2. Is your Power Supply strong enough to power your video card when the video card is pulling maximum power?
3. Try lowering your video settings.
4. Run some GPU testing programs to max out your video card, this could be a faulty memory module on the GPU, or your PSU might not have enough wattage to run the card (and system) when the card tries to pull maximum wattage. Also, run the GPU test, a CPU test, and a RAM test simultaneously, to actually test maximum system draw.
Those two lines of thought are my gut instinct, it could be something unrelated.

I cannot find the specs of my PSU. I don't know which one I have.
I guess I am using onboard audio, when I look at the specifications I cannot find any other soundcard.
I am using the Gamecom 360 headest with a green and pink/purple plug.
I will check the other things ASAP.

Damn,
This is the part where W says "Ladies and Gentleman.....WE GOT HIM!" Already with the first GPU stress test after a minute a complete system reboot. I guess my PSU is just too weak for my 1337 videocard. I guess when the hellfire hits the vehicle it requires too much power and that causes the reboot. I will contact my PC guy asap.

Re: Rockets to the face cause a reboot
Well,
Turn off PC,
ground yourself , i.e. remove any static electric buildup,
open your case
the PSU has a sticker on it. Important info is the total wattage i.e. 500 Watt PSU. and the 12+Volt rail, which should be over 21Watts sustained.
If the sticker is on a hidden surface, unplug the PC and look about.
PLug PC back in,
Start PC,
Run the stress test again,
Check to see if the GPU fan is spinning properly,
Shutdown PC, unplug PC
you should do the simplistic troubleshooting possible, a physical inspection and physically reseat the GPU, take out the video card, check for dust, check the power connector for the GPU, etc.
The GTX 650 only pulls like 70Watts at maximum power draw. MSI GeForce GTX 650 Power Edition OC 1 GB Review | techPowerUp
Before you buy a new PSU, you might want to put your GPU in another PC that has a known to be good and large enough wattage PSU.
Could be the motherboard,
could be the GPU
could be the PSU,
Could also be something else... such as a bad hard drive that has a corrupt sector where your GPU drivers files are stored.
Anyways, good luck with this.

Re: Rockets to the face cause a reboot
The troll fix-it guide for this problem, is:
1. Stop dying.
2. Stop getting hit by rockets.
3. You should try and maintain at least 300 altitude above MSL (preferbly in a jet).
Indeed your problem is fascinating though. Maybe a PSU issue. Maybe.

Re: Rockets to the face cause a reboot
I don't know. Seems to me you would have boot up issues before a gaming episode if it is underpowered power supply. My son just fixed an issue where using audio (skyp, gchat) Bsod his system. Turned out it was applying a firmware upgrade to his SSD drive that fixed it.. go figure.B.Pronk(NL) wrote:Damn,

In your case Video driver or faulty video card or system RAM is also a possibility. Is Windows set to auto upgrade drivers? Turn it off and always scrutinize any updates on your puter. Let us know what you find.
