BF2 can launch but not PR?

Post by Cuxd »

Ok, so when I play normal BF2, I can join servers etc. But when I join PR servers, it says Invalid CD Key. Now before you ask, I've already tried and fix the infamous "Invalid CD Key" Error, but nothing seems to work. This forum post is not mainly focused on that error. I was wondering why it won't work on PR, but it can work on BF2. If you are wondering, No, I didn't buy it on steam, and it's on Origin. Did I get EA'd? Was I ripped off? I have no clue, if you could help in a way, that would be great :) Hope to see you on the battlefield :D

How and what did you install on which system. How do you launch PR? What happens when?
or
What were you trying to do, what did you expect to happen and how did the observed results differ from the results you expected.

System? I installed it on Windows 7. I aunch PR by the shortcut and by the in directory .exe. I also run as Administrator. When I join a multiplayer game in PR, it says invalid key, but when in normal BF2, no error. I am curious as to why it's happening. I expected it to run fine, but it just gives me the Invalid CD Key error.

Hiya,
We have an Origin Copy of BF2,
Where did you download the PR installation files? Direct download, torrent, Desura?

One of the PR Devs created a program that might or might not help you, I suggest giving it a try.
First thing, open Origin and get your BF2 key copied to notepad, so you can paste it later into this little program
'[R-COM wrote:LITOralis.nMd']Allright,
Ive released new version of BF2KeyMan with minor changes based on your suggestions
Please leave feedback if it was helpful for someone

Added:
- Readme,
- Minor key checking for chars

Removed:
- "Random" button

I'm 95% sure this is an error in the registry entries for EA Origin.
I also have the EA Origin BF2 Complete Collection, I can export my registry branch , remove my CDKey, and upload it, you'll have to enter your own key, then use the program in the above post to encrypt the key, and then reopen regedit and copy the key to the correct location.

But first, what version of windows do you have?
and is it a 32 bit or 64 bit version?
And did you install BF2 in the default location for your system? Where is BF2 installed, I need the exact directory structure? Win7 x64 is InstallDir"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Origin Games\\Battlefield 2 Complete Collection\\"
You have to answer all of these or I can't fix this?

The basic problem is a mistake in the registry, there is a duplicate folder in a folder,
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2\ergc]
instead of

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2\ergc] <- that is the correct one.

Doing it this way is a bit of a hassle, but generally if you understand what I'm asking for, is quicker than reinstalling BF2.

Unless you saved the Origin installation files, in which case you can, copy your BF2 CDKey onto paper, uninstall BF2 and PR, then go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts] and delete the registry branch. Then reinstall BF2 and PR.
