Help a PR veteran get back in the game! (quick questions)
Hey guys, been a LONG time since I visited the forums, and sorry if creating a thread for this is excessive, but I just want some quick discussion/answers from you guys to help me get back into PR.
I stopped playing about 2 years ago, I've been playing since .5 and the last time I played I was reading about the development towards the ARMA2 engine, but it obv hadn't been released yet.
By general questions are -
How's the community doing? Are there still a few good servers full with players going 24/7?
Same question above for the arma2 engine, how is that community vs the BF2 one?
What's the main difference with ARMA engine and BF2 engine, and any preference for one over the other?
And any MAJOR new changes/additions to the gameplay? I'm going to read up on this myself, but the last time I played PR it was .95 I think and I mostly played Muttrah 24/7 and the insurgency maps.
Thanks in advance for any help/replies!

10/10 for your neutral perspective....=-=kittykiller wrote:sorry budy the mod is dead and a new version will not be released until the end of the year.

The mod isn't dead. It got quietly a bit. You'll find around ~300 players on a average european evening. ~200 for the american peak. On the weekend ofc is more party. Round 500 players (sometimes 600) for the european peak, 300 for the american peak.
The only server that is kinda running 24/7 is CIA. If it's "good" is relative. Not in my opinion but meh. There are some "good" european server I usually play on. [NEW] for example.
There are sure some new feature ofc. But nothign where I would say it's major.
The difference between the two engine is: They are way different. I'd say PR:ArmA is more complex (while still having not as far content as PR:BF2) and it's also a bit slower in the gameplay. The community of it is small tho. But it's a newer engine, "better" graphics and more possibilities. They are going to port there mod for ArmA3 and stop developing on ArmA2.
Still prefer BF2.

Yes! There are servers 24/7. Only time I don't get a chance to play is when the Chinese/australian communities have their peak times.random pants wrote: How's the community doing? Are there still a few good servers full with players going 24/7?
Any other time of the day, you'll find a server.
kittykiller is plain wrong.
Project Reality: PRSPY
even now, at 13:26, there are 275 players.
hop in, bring your friends, and don't forget mumble.

Re: Help a PR veteran get back in the game! (quick questions)
Good to see players coming back.
PRSPY shows you all the PR servers online atm. So keep an eye on that. Since .95 other then a mappack release and the 0.98 Minimod(vietnam, falklands and normandy maps and factions) release with some very small gameplay tweaks not much has changed. But 1.0(links to some recent 1.0 development news) is still hard in the works for this year so keep an eye on that!
Have fun! Since you are from the US I'd say try out the CIA and HOG server. Most popular and active communities for your region.

Welcome back, randompants!
Like the others have said, the community is still active and servers are still going strong, but obviously the amount of players has shrunk a little bit over the years.
If you played Muttrah 24/7 that was probably on our server (HOG), we have switched to a mapvote-based rotation now like most other servers. In the US you have HOG, CIA full every night and TacticalGamer on specially announced days.
While people have preferences for servers, the reality is that the gameplay on the daily servers is quite equal, the only exception being TG, where the teamwork is of a higher level on average, but they don't open their server every day (for now?).
Have fun, welcome back!

Great to hear you're returning, folks.
As has been said, PR:BF2 still has full servers most days. PR:ArmA 2 isn't doing as well.
PR 1.0 and PR:ArmA 3 as well as PR2 are in the works, with no announced release dates yet.

Presumably Kitty got the wrong end of the stick and thought that the OP was talking about PR:Arma?

Welcome back
PR is not litteraly 'dead' as you could have heard, we are a few hundred regular players who keep the game alive therefor there is always AT LEAST one server up, usually CIA, and it easily goes up to 7 or 8 on the weekends.

I play PR almost every day on NA servers.
As there are usually on 2 servers that fully populate at this time, you may have to wait in line. Use the auto-deploy function.

Is there anyway of knowing how many players are actually waiting for that one slot on CIA, HOG or whatever server? Results can maybe show that instead of waiting you could fill a thirth or even fourth server on US peak times.
We are staying up!

The picture isn't quite all that rosy. Although 2 or 3 servers are relatively full nights and weekends many good teamplayers have left and been replaced with goof offs and griefers. I remember you as a good player. Welcome back!

As for gameplay quality;
this is not an official statement on behalf of the team, just a personal opinion:
I suggest any good teamplayer to support Tactical Gamer whenever they hold an event, join, do your best to improve the game, and make TG popular just as it used to be again.

So not much has changed?DDS wrote:The picture isn't quite all that rosy. Although 2 or 3 servers are relatively full nights and weekends many good teamplayers have left and been replaced with goof offs and griefers.
I'm looking at coming back too. It's been more than a year since I've played with any regularity. It is kinda sad to only see 1 or 2 populated servers. When I first started playing this after....whatever one was was released in late 2007, there were 5 or 6 populated American servers on top of the Euro and Asian servers.

Tactical Gamer left a vacuum and I'm glad they are returning. After a years worth of the ridiculousness it's quite refreshing. Welcome back Spartan, I'm convinced 1.0 will be amazing!Spartan10k wrote:So not much has changed?(I'm kidding)

Mod aint dead.
Whats good to you? There arent anymore servers with a ridiculous high ammount of teamwork and communication, but if you know what crowd to look for after a while, you get a couple of good games in.

Re: Help a PR veteran get back in the game! (quick questions)
Iv come back to PR after a long brake, and to be honest I'm really far from impressed.
Have been playing on NWA, HOG and CIA.....and there seems to have been a real nose dive in teamwork, with a bunch of 2/3 man locked INF squads, one officer kit on a whole insurgency team, and just a level of immaturity I don't remember being so prevalent.
I have had exactly one well SqL round, with commander and organised assets, and the rest have been cluster fucks of "amusing" named 'DURKA DURKA' squads and levels of racism iv never seen before on PR, with the work nigger being openly excepted in chat and mubles?!.
I hope its just down to young immature player being more active at the weekends, but seems that you have to be a member of a clan to get anything near to teamwork and the original PR experience.
