Post by simeon5541 »

will have MG3 both in AR and MG kits ?

Should have posted in "Ask the Devs a Question" instead of starting a new thread, but whatever. Anyways, we haven't heard that much about the MEC AR and MG kits in 1.0. If you want more information about PR 1.0, take a look at the encrypted changelog

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qf3 ... sp=sharing

Other than that, I think we'll definitely see another weapon for AR/MG in 1.0, two kits with the same weapon would be kind of useless.

Well this forum is enormous in size,
I didn't knew appropriate place where
to post this, moderator should be free to move this.

I remember watching Alpha Skirmish Round MEC vs France,
and MEC had Iron Sighted MG3 in Automatic Rifleman kit,
so I thought that asking question about future replacement
wouldn't hurt anyone.

Well that somehow doesn't fit current MEC theme,
and both of those LMGs are in same class and similar caliber.

Lets hope for some G3 SAW derivative for AR kit.

I think the logical choice to fit with the current theme would be the HK11 (probably fed from a drum magazine), but I don't have any idea on the likelihood of this.

I did hear some rumours or something a while back about the RPK being in (I'd assume as a placeholder until something better fitting could be included), but once again I really have no idea.

Can't be the SAW anyway since it's a 5.56 gun and MEC only use 7.62, right? Except for the MP5.

What can't be? The HK11 is in 7.62 NATO.

The HK13 is the 5.56 NATO variant.

And concerning the MP5, I think I saw in the decoded changelog that they were being replaced by G3s (or was that just for some MP5 kits and not all of them?).

My guess is the RPK, but only as a placeholder. Eventually the HK11E, 13E, 21E, or 23E.

Drum fed HK11 sounds as a reasonable solution,
I don't have any more reliable source, but Wikipedia
says that HK11 is widespread throughout Mideast nations.

Really want to hear word or two from devs about this . . .

By SAW I meant Squad automatic weapon,
not M249 SAW . . .

I think RPK is fine, after all they use Russian vechicles, so there should be no problems with supplying 7.62 for infantry.
And it will add more diversity which is cool and less work for the devs.

Yeah and then their kits would look like complete mess since yeah diversity
so there would appear more people that are for "diversity",suggesting Minimi's and M4s . . .

On the serious note, current MEC kits are made this way with intention . . .
Intention that MEC should look like conventional army, not Insurgent,Militia,
Hamas or BF2 MEC Spec Ops,just generic Mideast army using western handheld weapons.

RPK would be good as a Placeholder, but it simply doesn't fits with all German Cold War era
handheld weaponry issued to MEC.

Devs are planning to add British FV107 Scimitar for MEC, is that also a "mess"? Becouse if we follow your logic it is. One gun/vechicle will not create a "complete mess", and MEC is already using Saiga shotguns.

Correction, FV101 Scorpion CVR(T):

'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino;1843082']FV101 Scorpion CVR(T)
Most of you by now should be well acquainted with the FV107 Scimitar CVR(T) since its been in PR for a number of years now, but the Scorpion hasn't featured at all in that time since it was retired from the British Armed Forces in 1994. However a few Scorpions where used in the 1982 Falklands War with Two troops from B Squadron, Blues and Royals, along with the Scimitar.
The Scorpion and the Scimitar are from the same family of Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked), aka CVR(T) and are basically the same vehicle, with one major difference. the Scorpion has a 76mm cannon where the Scimitar has a 30mm cannon. There are other small differences between the two like the Scorpion has a different night sight and from its bigger, heavier cannon its slightly slower but other than that, they are pretty much the same thing.
Now your probably asking at this point as to why would we go and replace the Scimitar with something that has a bigger cannon when the Scimitar was already such a pain in the *** for the Argentine Infantry. Well while the Scimitar has a fully automatic 30mm cannon which has a rate of fire of 200 rounds per min, the Scorpion's 76mm cannon only has a rate of fire 6 rounds per min. So while its cannon packs a much bigger punch, its only going to be able to fire once every 10 seconds, which should give the infantry a much bigger chance to fight back, while also making it more effective vs other vehicles and deployables.

The Falklands is also not the only place you will see the Scorpion. Back in the day when the west was friends with Iran, Britain sold 300 FV101 Scorpion CVR(T)s to Iran and many of these still operate in the Iranian Armed Forces today, with them also producing there own version of the Scorpion now. As such we have made an MEC version of the Scorpion which you will hopefully see on a few maps in v1.0. It should also be noted that it is unlikely to be used on the same map with a Scimitar on the opposite side if anyone is worried about enemy identification, but not impossible if the mapper feels it can work. Since this is the Export model of the Scorpion its had its night sight removed, only leaving a bare plate where it should be to the right of the cannon.

Which one of the Russian vehicles is using 7.62x39 mm rounds in its gun? I just can't remember any.

Anyways, RPK would be a nice placeholder but man, that HK21 (or any other of its derivatives), that's a solid piece of hardware... :firing:

Since the MEC main weapon is the G3, then it would be logical to have a HK 23 with a box mag and bipod as the lmg. Interchangeable parts, same ammo type, basicly the same weapon but in a lmg setup. Would make much more sence to have it over an rpk imo. And keep the MG3 as the hmg.

The bf2 HK21 could be used as a placeholder if the proper one isn't made yet.

He asked which vehicles use 7.62x39mm in their coaxial MG's, the link you posted talks about PKT - 7.62x54R.
To my knowledge, all the Russian vehicles that have a coaxial MG use the 7.62x54R round, not the 7.62x39mm round.
