Nvida gtx 650 video card

Post by sgtamato »

I upgraded from a ati HD 6790 to a gtx 650 I video card. It does not play the same as old card. I read somewhere that I may have a driver problem. Is there a specific driver I should run with this card for PR, or do I have a setting problem.I thought this would be a better upgrade but my old card seemed to be better. FPS is not a problem the quality of video is.

Getting an gtx650 instead of 6970 doesn't seem like an upgrade to me... Check here: http://www.hwcompare.com/13509/geforce- ... n-hd-6970/

If fps is not the problem why won't you just change your resolution and texturequality? So that it looks better?

What do you mean with quality of video?

Yes LOL looks like a fail upgrade to me... :p (Sry for you!)

AT LEAST you should've bought a GTX 660 to increase the performance (barely better)... :p

Even a bit better would be GTX 660 Ti... (costing at least 160 Euros, the no-Ti version, depending of course on if you pay with Euros! xD And Ti version at least 230 Euros, going up to 300 Euros!!)

Any upgrade from AMD to Nvidia is a good upgrade, nuff said

But yeah I think I know what you mean. AA for example is rendered differently on different cards. I tweaked my nvidia drivers with the nvidia inspector because for example normal fences and those fences on top of some buildings (with the ornaments, you know Beirut is full of them) start flickering slightly on distance with the PR AA. Not really that much of a disturbance but I guess you have similar problems?

I just looked up the specs on my two cards and they are both about equal. I have learned what to look for so will do some research. I would like to put 2 6790 in. Am looking for a second card. They are cheap now may just buy 2.I was told that it would really bump me up.

If you run two video cards together do they have to be the same. If you run two 6790 cards do they have to be identical.I have a good PS and good cooling.I think my pc shop just got lazy and talked me into going to the GTX 650 card. Said a 6790 was going to cost me twice that.

First off, SgtAmato has the Radeon HD 6790 , not the Radeon HD 6970.

Your PC Shop was selling what they had on hand, not what is optimal for you.

General problem, the AMD Radeon HD 6790 is out of production.
The GTX 650 is in production, and takingup space on your PC shop's shelf.

Video Card Comparison - GPUReview.com

The HD 6790 has max power draw of 150W per card.
Two HD 6790 in Crossfire would be a max draw of 300W.

IF your PSU is a quality PSU with rated 550W of better, and has cables for both cards
IF your motherboard has two PCIe x16 slots that can be crossfired,
IF you don't mind paying for the electric bill,
you have a legit upgrade path of finding a used/refurbished/clearance HD 6790 on Ebay or somewhere similar,

The 2 card Crossfired HD 6790 is roughly equivalent to a single Radeon HD 7850 all the way up to a single GTX 570, depending on the game., which is a pretty decent level of GPU performance for about $110 on the used market for your 2nd HD 6790.

If you have any questions about your system, please ask before buying used parts.
