Streaming Project Reality

Post by Onil »

I would ask the moderators to add a poll if possible.

Question: Who in the PR community enjoys watching streams and would like to watch PR streams on a regular basis?

Answers:

1. I watch streams of other games and would watch PR streams on a regular basis.
2. I watch streams of other games but would not be interested in or would rarely watch PR Streams.
3. I don't usually watch streams but would be interested in watching PR streams regularly.
4. I don't usually watch streams but would be interested in watching PR streams once in a while.
5. I don't enjoy watching streams at all.

For the ones that don't know what i'm talking about, a stream is a live video broadcast of someone gaming and streaming the game.play to Twitch.tv or other streaming sites. I personally regularly watch DayZ streams from two regular known streamers and I would enjoy watching some PR streams as well. From what I could find, there is only one or two guys that sometimes stream for PR but not very regularly.

If you usually stream PR game-play, please post here with your channel info so I can add it to this first post in case anyone is interested in watching.

If there is enough people interested in streams, I might start streaming myself but I was mostly researching how the streams work so that I would live stream some of the Survival Game Events (from the admins perspective though).

I though that perhaps having a poll showing how many people might be interested in watching a PR stream, would motivate more people to start streaming. Perhaps we can then find a good streamer.

Cheers

Just my opinion, but I think people watch streams 'cause of the streamer not their content, even thou it helps.

If you're capable of give proper entertaining, discuss ideas or whatever streamers do, and still play the game I would say its a good initiative, but playing the game and just Live recording it, I would guess not many people would watch, 'cause it would be like a game play video but there are better in YouTube with proper Editing.

What turista says.

I mean if you are able to mentally prepare yourself to be positive and witty. And then once the stream is over, relax.

Based on what I've seen throughout the years.. this game is incredibly hard to stream and maintain viewer numbers. People join and ask the game name, stay for a few minutes and leave. The most people I've seen watching a PR stream was like 70-100 and this was like 5 years ago AND it was a popular justin.tv admin.

If there was a link to active streamers on the PR homepage and or the PR SPY site, I'm sure there would be more people watching

I don't ask this because I want to start to stream and get viewers, that is not my intention. I ask this so that perhaps it will motivate others to try streaming and perhaps we will find someone good enough at it that most people will like to watch.

The main purpose of this thread is to see if there are other people that like me, that would like to watch PR streams. But as Turista said, I too only watch streams based on the streamer and his ability to entertain me not only with game-play but with the various topics that he may discuss with the people on chat, while playing.

This is of course a lot more easy in slow paced games like ARMA and the DayZ mod, also because of their popularity. But I believe that it could perhaps also work for PR if someone would take the risk and start streaming. I though that having a poll showing how many people might be interested in watching a PR stream, would motivate more people to start streaming and I would put their links on the first post to get them some initial viewers. Then it is up to them to keep and gain viewers.

There are quite a few people who record game-play and post their videos here. Some of them even post full rounds and can be entertaining due to their way of playing. I think that perhaps some of them could try streaming if they have a good enough internet.

I only stream as an easier way to quickly record and upload footage to review later on and in the case of my Survival Game Events perhaps to stream for the ones who are not participating in them. I do not think I would be able to stream my game-play and entertain the viewers at the same time but perhaps someone else will be able to.

Quick question... If somebody has the time and the means to watch a PR stream, why not just get on and actually play the game?

Because sometimes people like to sit back and be entertained.

I would watch streams of community events i can't get into or participate, or tournament matches, clan matches, stuff like that.

I sometimes watched streams of events, in which I couldn't participate. I also used to sometimes open some stream in background and doing something else, and sometimes switching to it when there is something more interesting going on. Regular PR game is too much walking sim for me, to watch it normally. Although if streamer would entertain audience whole time, it could be doable.

What PR doesn't have is the ability for a good spectator set-up where you have a mini map so you can jump around to the action, the server PR-bots could be used for good streaming. It'd be more logical however to have Event highlights because of battlerecorder, that will attract more people, people would rather be playig for 30-45 mins rather than watching someone walking around for that time.
If we look at any popular streamed games, it's often League of Legends where if soemone is spectating it is easy to get to the action, the same applies to DoTA2

I find it funny that so many people call PR a walking simulator. In fact DayZ is way more of a walking simulator than PR and the known streamers have between 1500 and 3000 viewers almost every night that they stream. But as it was said before, they are quite good at entertaining us even when they're just walking around. They fill the boring moments of the game with funny and sometimes interesting chatting with squad mates and the viewers that are in chat.

As I said before, I will consider streaming the next Survival Games Event for the ones that couldn't participate due to limited available slots and for the ones who want to take a peak at how the game-play is on our events.

I would be interested in watching PR streams, BUT streaming PR is kind of bad, because it can be used to ghost, that's why it should remain streamed during special events like the Survival Games.

Realistically, you might average 10 or 12 kills per map. Over 90 minutes of gameplay.
Compared to the popular games on twich.tv where they might be killing 12 NPCs a minute.

Though, chatting with viewers would make the shovelling simulation a bit less tedious.

I'm not one to ask though, twitch.tv is a mysterious place, I can not fathom why people watch other people play video games.

Disagreeing. The fun about PR lies in much more aspects than just only seeing a dude going down.

Agreeing. I don't even watch gameplay footage apart from...maybe getting impressions of a game I don't (yet) possess...let alone PR.

I loved db's gameplay vids.

I wouldn't watch a livestream though. I'd rather have the good rounds pre-filtered for me.

TBH ghosting could also be done with firing up a secondary client placed in the Ins team if somebody would be really intend on doing that. Not to mention the odd instances when you get switched to the Insurgents for team balancing reasons(and then switched back because you were playing with some mates). All I'm saying is that if you REALLY intend on being a ****** like that there are enough options other than Onil's stream.

As for him streaming, why not?
VTRaptor: but i only stopped for less than 10 secs and that fucking awesome dude put 2 of them

Just_Dave: i have a list about PR players, and they r categorized by their skill

Edited videos are what I'm going after, there is just no way I'm sitting through hours of game play footage. I just went out and bought a 2tb hard drive just to record fraps. 1080i takes up 3.95gb per 55-80 seconds so it's definitely needed for any serious videos.

Well this made me think, in 1st Person is much more enjoyable to watch edited videos in YouTube, but if we start doing events with 2 cameramen using PRbots and streaming it could be very entertaining aswell.

Don't use Fraps. Use a tool with an integrated encoder. Bandicam for example. Files will be much much smaller with no visible loss of quality. And FPS won't suffer from the encoder aswell. In fact bandicam runs better than Fraps on my machine for some reason :D

Sadly I had to stop recording because of FPS problems with my new Graphicscard. My GTX680 cannot handle PR+Bandicam on maps like Fallhuja or Ramiel. My old Radeon HD7870 did without problems...
