No crosshairs?

Post by [T]Terranova7 »

I was thinking, since this is Project Reality, maybe there shouldn't be any crosshairs for firearms? Basically each player would be forced to use his/her Iron Sight. At the same time Recoil and Sway will make it even tougher to aim down the sight. At the same time however, the letahlity of the weapons would be increased.

This would make for some rather intense firefights between infantry/squads etc. I'm not sure how extreme this actually is, but I've always been looking for a mod with something like this. 8)

Removing crosshairs will make it really difficult at close range. And I mean really difficult. A better solution would just be to shrink the size of the crosshairs.

I dissagree, unless there is the *cannot shoot without crosshairs* lock then a very close ranges you can still spray in the direction of the enemy. I play a mod that is exactly like this and it works extremely well as long as you retain some accuracy when not looking down the iron sights. Not the same as if you had a crosshair, but still usable at close ranges.

Oh yeah by the way w00t! First post I have been reading these forums for sometime now but I felt as if it was time for me to step in. I read the whole What do you want to see in a realism mod topic that took all bloody nite.

Yes, please remove the crosshairs... Some people complained about the Joint Operations reality mod having no crosshairs, but you soon get used to it. 99% of the time soldiers shoot through the rifle sights, a reality mod should be the same.

Can anyone tell me that last time you went to a shooting range, and without using your sight, just KNEW exactly where each round would go?

Ya. I don't think so. Crosshairs suck and blow. Just get rid of em. Close combat = stop, crouch, aim and fire a burst, instead of bunny hop around holding the trigger.

it isnt extremely hard without crosshairs, you figure when they are there they are pretty much dead center of the screen, most people can find that. this is good cause it will make it difficult but not impossible in CQC.

CQB hard with out cross hairs? From that statement alone I doubt you've ever played a game with out them. Mods like Red Orchestra(UT2K4) and DCR(Mini-mod for DC) had no cross hairs. Let me tell you it was no challenge to CQB with a PPSh or an M4. Now when it came to some thing like an M14 then it got harder, not impossible, but at that point you shouldn't be in CQB as an M14 or any similar weapon is meant for a marksman who should be in a position where that isn't necasary.

no crosshairs bad for CQC? i think not.

just a few days ago when i was messing around with the sniper kits, i was in prone, had my rifle unscoped, and someone from the other team gave me a little surprise, he got shot in the face at a distance of 5 meters no problem. Also im pretty sure almost all marksmen have pistols which they use for close range, so if you did have a M-14, you wouldnt be using it to take someone out in CQC.

Another thing, when i was taking some screen shots with a buddy of mine i turned off all the HUD options. The next day when I was playing I forgot about it and played a good 5 minutes before i was like "oh yeah" i killed about 6 or 8 guys in CQC without anymore of a problem then i do when i have the crosshairs on.

Would it be possible to implement sway while aiming down the sights? No single person in the world can keep a firearm super still. I'd personally like it if we could get Infantry Combat simular to Brothers in Arms.

On a side note how about random gun jams as well? Like in America's Army where your rifle would jam from time to time.

gun jams are planned im pretty sure for this mod.

but yeah iron sight sway would be great, also, better iron sight animations, the ones in POE were awsome, the ones for BF2 are too quick and 2-D

BF2 sights are a combination of 3D and 2D images. The rear sight is 2D, the front is 3D. I prefer full 3D sights seen in mods like RO, and in AAO on certain weapons.

Weapon sway is good and I know it's possible as it was a part of many weapons in mods like DC, FH and DCR.
