Long Waiting time then Crash

Post by jcgsis »

Hi guys,

So i recently tried running PR v0.972, and I tried running Ramiel on Win 8, but it took 13-30 minutes to load the map itself, and then after i clicked the "squad assignment" button, it just froze for another 5 minutes, then loading to the map, only to crash immediately. Then I installed PR v0.98, but the same problem occurs.

Can somebody help please?

My PC Specs are as follows:
Windows 8 Pro 32-bit
Processor: Intel Core i3 CPU 550 @ 3.20GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM

As you can probably tell, I'm new here, so please don't criticize my lack of info. or anything :p just tell me if you need anymore PC Specs :)

Thanks!

Does BF2 also take a long time to load?

First of all, an "i3" never NEVER is a quadcore, only dual-core... :p ;) You have hyperthreading though, which makes it look n feel like quadcore, but physically, dual-core. 8)

Yes, we of course REALLY need the exact information on the graphics card/adapter, also, I highly recommend you to use 4 GB RAM, 2 GB is just at the border...

Without that information and assuming that you play all "high" I would say you need at least 4gigs of Ram.
told you im a noob at this :D

anyways, the graphics card im using right now is the ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series

hope that helps

So im guessing using an i3 core isnt the best idea...

like i said, im a noob at this, so excuse the questions, but what do you recommend i do?

thanks a bunch, man

FIRST you tell us what graphics card you got... (system configuration screen or so, then some "manager", you can google it if you don't know what graphics card you got... )

THEN upgrade your RAM to 4 Gigs (GB)

The dual core should be totally fine for PR, as it has hyperthreading, running @ 3.2 GHz and has 4MB L3 cache, only turbo-boost feature is missing, but shouldn't be too much of a problem...

IF you want a new CPU, so a quad-core (since youhave dual core now, I'd suggest an upgrade to a quadcore next), IF you want to keep your current motherboard (which has socket LGA 1156), you COULD think of getting a Nehalem Architecture "Lynnfield" (45 nm ) , so even little bit older, quadcore (your current one is Westmere architect. "Clarkdale" (32 nm small :p ) and your current one needs 73 W (watts) max. BUT if you get the i5 - 750 (one of the only three quad-core i5s for your current LGA 1156 motherboard, running at 2.6 GHz only though, so might be overclocked), you have to check your PSU (power supply), if it delivers enough energy for the 93 W - hungry i5 - 750... :p

Intel Core i5 750 2 66 GHz Quad Core Processor | eBay

Or even this 160 bucks i7 (quad-core with hyperthreading) 2.8 GHz ! But also older generation, but has your current socket! :D (BUUUUt this one takes also up to 95 W... :/ So check PSU)

Intel Core i7 860 Processor 2 80GHz 8M Cache SLBJJ | eBay

SOOoo, all in all the even older i5-quadcore would be even less economic than your current i3 dual-core, so ACTUALLY it would be the BEST decision to get a NEW motherboard with an INCREDIBLY energy-saving HASWELL LGA 1150 socket and an i5 haswell cpu... ;) THOUGH the haswell i5s cost around 200 $, and the haswell i7 (HIGH performance) even around 300 bucks... )

3.2 GHz Haswell quad-core (socket LGA 1150 ) :
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-4570 Haswell 3.2GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80646I54570

OR you get a motherboard with LGA 1155 socket and buy a previous-gen (generation) "sandy bridge" or "ivy bridge" quad-core, since they should be cheaper than the this month new haswells... ;) :p

Ivy Bridge (Socket LGA 1155) : Intel Core i5-3330 Ivy Bridge 3.0GHz (3.2GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2500 BX80637i53330 - Newegg.com

But for PR, seriously, your 3.2 GHz hyper-threading dual core should be fine...

Er, his hardware is clearly not the problem here... Please don't recommend people spend hundreds of dollars for no reason >_>

I wrote at the end what should be said about his CPU and PR... <_< :p ;)

And my first question still was what VGA exactly he has... ;) 8)

OK,
You are probably experiencing several small issues, that when combined, become a big issue.
But don't fear, we have a solution,

1. defrag your hard drive. the PR and addons installers tend to get fragmented, which slows down read/writes and slows down fps.

2A. Download and install IOBit Gamebooster3. Speed Up Slow Computer, Keep PC and Internet Secure, Freeware Download - IObit
MajorGeeks.com has a decent video tutorial on using this program:
Using IOBit Game Booster 3 by Majorgeeks.com - YouTube

2B. Read through these guides:
Windows 8 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs ─ Sean's Windows 8 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs
Windows 7 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs - Sean's Windows 7 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs
Windows 8, 7 , Vista, and XP Tweakguides from Tweakguides.com TweakGuides.com - The TweakGuides Tweaking Companion

3. Download Bitsum ProcessLasso Free. Make sure you download the correct version, Free 32 bit or Free 64 bit, Process Lasso - Automate and optimize priorities, CPU affinities, power profiles, and much more!
-- Start PR, alt tab to desktop, open ProcessLAsso window, right click on PR.exe, TR.exe, BF2.exe, PRMumble.exe and pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrB.exe and give them default priority status of High, set the Tr PR and BF2 to gaming mode, and give them high or higher access to RAM.
4. Determine which OS you have, and if it is 32 bit or 64 bit. Once you are 100% certain you know , follow this guide for your OS:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... b-ram.html

5. Check your Page File, if set to a sliding value, I suggest
deleting pagefile.
rebooting.
resetting pagefile manually to a single minimum/maximum.
Here is the raw information to determine your correct pagefile: How to determine the appropriate page file size for 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2008 and or Windows 2008 R2
And here is a video tutorial to figure out your correct pagefile size:

then optionally:
manually setting it to a single minimum/maximum, and getting a defrag progam that will move the pagefile to the beginning of your hard drive. A free option:FAQ Special files - How do I defragment "C:\pagefile.sys" (the swapfile)?

SO.
Step 1. fixes any hard drive issues.
Step 2. shut downs unneeded background processes freeing up RAM and system resources.
Step 3. Gives the BF2 and PR and PRmumble and punkbuster programs High priority for RAM and system resources.
Step 4. Gives the BF2 and PR.exe programs the ability to use individually over 2GB of RAM when needed, and reduces the amount of RAM being reserved (wasted) by the OS.
Step 5. Create fixed size Pagefile and defragmenting it.[/QUOTE]
