Slow Down Vehicles (M1114 practical example with sources)

Post by ryan d ale »

In PR 1.0 we're expecting a beautiful M1114 Humvee and we are all thankful for the work done on it.

However, The M1114 is going to have more hit points and armour and it should be slowed down because it will now weigh more. Even from a realism point of view it needs to be slowed down anyway and here's why:
  1. Acceleration: 0-30Mp/h 7 seconds and 0-50Mph/h 17 seconds
I know it's a game but it is PR also. Humvee rushing isn't something that can be done in real life. Vehicles move considerably slower but because it's a game there's no need for realistic speeds but there's also no need for arcade acceleration/speeds either.

To be even 'half realistic' the time max acceleration time needs to be doubled.

Other benefits:
Slowing down logistic trucks undermines Logi FOB Ninja Rush Tactic (i.e rushing to build FOB at start of round near enemies flags)

Places emphasis on convoy and protection aspects (which in 1.0 isn't a laughing stock due to hillarious Arty IED 'nuke' damage)

Gives more importance and credence to air trans (when available)

Less rolling over due to driving acceleration and speeds

Less ridiculous actions performed by vehicles i.e things that are impossible in real life due to speed and or acceleration and safety constraints

This would help undermine the 'Logitank FOB Ninja' rush tactics that are common on most maps as well, if applied to the Logi. (I mean Logi's being RPG proof and fast allows them to drive past most squads and build FOBs to their rear in the right hands).

Actually vehicles in PR are the main remaining 'gamey' aspect I think. But loads of fun I suppose :)

Those numbers should be in mph, not km/h. 30 km/h in 7 seconds is "like a pregnant yak."

Also, the refs I gave were for an M1151 w/ B1 kit, so if this was announced as M1114, then it sounds like Rhino's got his designations confused again.

sorry what? :p

If your refereeing to the whole Huey thing then I was going from memory and I thought you where talking about the Huey series in general (since that's kinda what the question was) when you said an armed Huey couldn't carry passengers, as you never mentioned anything about the Y being able to lift 1,000 more kg than the N and as such being able to :p

I strongly disagree, as nothing should be in mph, ever. Or inch, or foot, or pounds...

Do they? I was thinking of RPG's to be honest, point still remains re. soloing a Logi behind enemy lines.

I have killed plenty of logi trucks with insurgent RPG. the hard part is to hit it where he dies instantly.

It often gets on fire and then explodes when I hit it with the RPG. But it is an issue on some maps for sure. z0mg logi truck rush on Kozelsk and make those sneaky FOBs.

Exactly.

The problems are not limited to specific maps.

The root cause of the problem are the vehicle speeds.

Humvee Spam, Sneaky FOB Rush, Casually driving at ridiculous speeds on rugged terrain.....

try and find a problem with PR, the rules are evolving even as the maps are built. Catch 22

This is what off-road military trucks are designed for hence why they have shipload of extra springs to absorb the impact.

It would be rather uncomfortable to be in the truck and your load would have to be strapped in like if it was glued to the flatbed....but if i'm taking fire from enemy's i think id care less about the truck and my cargo and more about my personal life.

Nerfing the truck speed would just give the enemy a free kill.

If anything then the transport truck (the one similar to Logi truck. Should be slightly slower because having soldiers in full gear strapped in the back with a simple belt could cause some nasty injuries.

As for the ninja fobs.... well make it impossible for 1 guy to build it... and 2 guys should work longer to build it... problem fixed.

But he's not suggesting we nerf the truck's speed, only it's acceleration. But i do like your suggestion about having to have multiple guys to build something, that actually makes sense.

Aye for both ideas!

Nerfing the acceleration is my point.

Also, shouldn't it be realistic to have slower acceleration unless you can prove otherwise and wouldn't it be realistic for it to have a protection like a humvee with a gun like a convoy?

Jessica Lynch and her convoy got ambushed and captured when driving Logi trucks, not sure if that was an acceleration issue or simply because the vehicles aren't designed for combat though (i'm being sarcastic).. Which leads me to ask both why we have them routinely forward of the front line in PR, and why they are so invulnerable currently to small arms.

I agree that Acceleration on all logi trucks should be slowed down a bit. the top speed is fine though, maybe a little fast.

Decreased land vehicle speed in general would place a lot of emphasis on good air transport. Some of them go comically fast

There is also a line in the vehicle files wich is something along the lines of clutch... enabling that makes the engine use the clutch and ease off the throttle, also the duration of the shifting can be played around with.

Enabling the first and increasing the second, could work in this favour.
