100p squads

Post by PLODDITHANLEY »

I assume that squads are still going to be a max of nine for the hopefully imminent 100p layers what I don't know is what that squad size is likely to be 8 or 10, either way I think we'll need to rethink the standard squad system.

For now we have the space to have dedicated trans, CAS, tank or whatever. So what are server rules and players going to do when we can't really have that luxury.

Trans with mortars are fine but tricky with markers and overloading that SL.

Armour all together should be Ok except APC's and tanks shouldn't have the same role although they frequently do. Many players in my experience haven't got that sweet spot to hear mumble in moving vehicles that is vital to use mumble local in a big armour squad.

I don't know about you but a big infantry squad will be daunting unless some magic has been accomplished regarding markers and a NCO role.

Pardon me for being woefully unaware, but are 100 player layers confirmed? I heard stuff about 128 player servers becoming the standard but I don't know any details.

Hopefully its a server admin choice, because personally i think anything over 90p on PR sized maps (besides The Falkands and Normandy) is really shit.

I'm pretty sure it'll be 100, but whatever if it's 128 the problems will be bigger for a teamwork and comms game like PR.

100p was found to be the perfect number, lagwise/connection wise, and to manage, etc. Just the perfect number.

8p squad, 9 squad total.

Now, having 2 more members shouldn't be too hard to manage to be honest and will bring interesting things.

With the introduction of teh new spotter kit, my understanding is that squads will be locked at 3 members. This must be true (33 squads of 3 = 99, plus 1 commander = 100).

You heared it first here.

I wonder if it would be effective to appoint like a Sargent in your squad who would help you keep an eye out and make sure everyone's following your orders.... Might make dealing with bigger squads easier.

I think the wisest approach here would be to use only one squad of 50 people per team, since we all know that the largest squad wins.

I didnt have any problem leading 8 man squads. You dont need an NCO if your a good SL. :P

I do look forward to the problems with the asset squads.

I think it really depends on the server. If it's a six man squad full of people who want to get stuff done, adding two more will help you get things done that much faster. If you have six people forking around, adding two more people forking around is going to make it that much worse.

Still, 100 player servers sound amazing, I imagine it'll really enhance the experience on the bigger maps. 100 man skirmish sounds like a nightmare, though.

100 players Skirmish gives us that little BF 3 touch I been on a few and it was very intense for PR.

It'll be tricky for the four man locked infantry squads, plus mortars, trans and CAS might have to share.

Could this be the end of 2 man sniper squads?

Well, i could imagine some epic skirmish battles with 100p. Brutal firefights with enemies everywhere. Simply war.

yeah i also think it depends on the SL which means people need to train on becoming better SL's if they want a 8 man sqd's

there's lots of ways of organising a team with 8 man squads, there's certainly alot more men to run the transports. Organisation like a squad with its own APC can now work, helicopter trans requires more teamwork due to the need for multiple vehicles per squad but also have enough men to permanently man at least 1 on-board weapon.

I think that 8 man squads will probably need a more relaxed attitude than some servers have currently regarding asset rules as far as APCs are concerned, but things like tanks, helos, jets etc will probably conform to the old rule format fine.

The possibilities are awesome! Here is just one...

One 8 person APC squad can now carry three 8 person infantry squads!
Grand total of 4 squads = 32 players, i.e. one whole team on the current 64p servers!

To the MS Paint board! (For those that don't care for math and because I have nothing better to do while I'm DLing PR 1.0 BETA)

Image

That leaves 5 squads for the 18 other players (or 17 if there is a Commander).
And hopefully they decide to support the main platoon through CAS, Armor, Logistics, etc.

You'll be lucky to find a server that will play a full 100 player skirmish map. But if you do, let me know

And now, we wait.....
