Fallujah West performance issues (yet again)
Hi
First of all, sorry to bring this subject up yet again since we all know it's been discussed before.
Second of all, I would like to apologize if this is the wrong section to post this.
The reason why I want to discuss the perfomance on Fallujah West is because I remember the days back in 0.87(??) where there were no perfomance issues on any maps at all, and when I look back on those days I remember Fallujah West as my favourite insurgency map.
Now I get terrible fps drops when playing this map, although it's not as bad as it was right after the 0.9 release (sorry I may be wrong about the versions here).
So I got a couple of questions that someone maybe will be able to answer:
1: Am I the only one left now that still have problems with fps drops on this map?
2: Was it ever figured out what created the perfomance issues concerning Fallujah West?
3: I heard somewhere that the weapon models are so detailed now (since 0.9) that it causes perfomance issues when looking in a direction where alot of players are, which kind of makes sence to me when thinking about when I get massive fps drops on Fallujah. Is this true?
I know this isn't really feedback but I would like to discuss this since the "OMG I LAG ON EVERY MAP" threads are dead now and people have settled down.

Re: Fallujah West perfomance issues (yet again)
You are right, Fallujah was running fine in previous versions. Now you need much more cpu power.
tested:
[email protected] with GTX470 settings high with vsync : 25-60 Frames in Multiplayer full server, depends on view direction.
[email protected] with GTX470 settings high with vsync : 60 frames in all situation.

Re: Fallujah West perfomance issues (yet again)
I tried the mod today for the 3rd time and this map was on. I got an fps of 15-30 when looking at some direction and full 60 elsewhere. Later when i checked cpu logs I saw that neither core was hitting 100%. 1 was at about 50% and the other at 60-90%. Would this not suggest that it is an optimization problem for the map?
I hope that the rest of the maps i will try later are not like this... :-/

I guess the speed of the RAM has effect too. 3GB DDR3 is faster that DDR2 and better performance.

Re: Fallujah West performance issues (yet again)
yea I had massive FPS drops too when my CPU was a e6600 running at 3.2 Ghz, with my minimum going as low as 18 in some cases
ever since I upgraded my CPU to a amd 1075t running at 3.9 Ghz, my minimum frame rate went as high as 30 on a full 64 man server, this is running a HD 6870 on both CPU's, people def understatement how you need a powerful CPU to run project eality at its best..

Well sure you could just upgrade the PC but some optimization of the map wouldn't hurt. I will probably upgrade my PC soon but would still love to see something to be done about this map.

I get huge FPS drops on Fallujah to the point it's unplayable. I've come to the conclusion that it's being caused by the columns of smoke billowing from destroyed vehicles and bomb craters throughout the map. Devs, is there any way to optimize this, if not just get rid of them(the smoke columns) altogether?
Edit: Same goes for Ramiel as well.

Necro.
It's already noted and they have probably fixed it for 1.0.

Oh, you concluded this by editing the map, removing just the smoke columns, loading up again and your fps issues were solved?Mariospeedwagen wrote:I get huge FPS drops on Fallujah to the point it's unplayable. Edit:
Just retested... It's certainly not fixed. As low as 20 fps @ 1280x720 with an i7 920@stock & HD5870SShadowFox wrote:Necro.

I believe the issue is mostly due to drawcalls overload with the old afgan statics + grass overgrowth + sidewalks on the level, causing a big CPU bottleneck which in turn means that your GPU can't effectively render things at maximum capacity.

Re: Fallujah West performance issues (yet again)
The problem is that we don't have the original files for the map so it would be a major undertaking to really fix this map. But... is it so horrible that it's not played anymore? If that's that case then we'll have to figure something out. I can do some simple fixes like removing the stop lights and random car statics (they are resource hogs), but I wonder if it needs more than that.

I don't have any problems with it with an HD6770 at 1280x1024 with an AMD FX-8350 all high settings. I haven't checked my fps yet but I know there's no noticeable lag.

Please do, those damn stop lights are annoying![R-DEV]AFsoccer wrote:I can do some simple fixes like removing the stop lights and random car statics (they are resource hogs), but I wonder if it needs more than that.
Same as other people in this thread I'm getting 15-100 fps on that map, depending on the direction I'm looking at with an i5 and hd5870.

Yup, I used to run this map fine in 0.85 - 0.95, but since 0.97 - 0.98 it lags, and my PC is better than back then. Weird.

Chuva_RD : You want to remove bugged thing but dont tell how to fill formed void.

There is a lot of useless **** on this map that might take up resources, on the ground there are flattened card board boxes and some garbage that is completely useless. A clean up of this map of static objects that serve no purpose other than to add visuals are needed, no pun intended.

Im sure I uploaded the original files somewhere years ago to here.
If not I'll have a dig around my old hard drive if I can find it.

Think I still have the very orignal fines which I lightmapped, but don't have the files for your updated version after that.duckhunt wrote:Im sure I uploaded the original files somewhere years ago to here.

Re: Fallujah West performance issues (yet again)
Just have a round on Fallujah aaand...
1. Bunch of guys left due to slide show they were experiencing.
2. Other half stayed on the map with 14 FPS (!!!).
3. Of course some lucky guys with gaming machines didn't have any FPS problems..
But majority of us struggled!
Yeah, simply wanted to bump the thread.

Re: Fallujah West performance issues (yet again)
Thanks. I deleted a bunch of random cars and dumpsters on Ramiel and no one noticed them missing (and I'm assuming it helped with performance) so we'll need to do the same on Fallujah. Just give us some time.

Re: Fallujah West performance issues (yet again)
I have a seven year old laptop with Intel's integrated GMA X3100 which runs Project Reality and Battlefield 2 just fine (all settings on low, no AA, lowest draw distant and 1280x800p) maybe you should not bash Fallujah West's "performance" and instead lower your graphics, again this is ridiculous, lower your overall graphics or enjoy your sideshow.a3dboy1 wrote:Just have a round on Fallujah aaand...

It's not our fault or the DEVs if people play on laptops with the highest maxed out settings available and outdated drivers with their integrated graphics, the mainstream audience knows this; please don't remove anything more from the maps, they'll all be greatly missed if removed, sir.[R-DEV]AFsoccer wrote:Thanks. Re: Fallujah West performance issues (yet again)
Fallujah, A12 or something, west side of US main, north hesco wall, there was a new static HMG added in a new 2 story hesco tower/nest. PLayers can NOT exit this HMG once they enter it.
please fix, I was training new players when I jumped on it and the result was pretty embarassing.
